Season Two, Episode Two - 8 Mar. 1981
Arkwright decides to take Nurse Gladys away to a hotel. This leaves Granville in a position to make his play for the milk round lady, but Arkwright, hands on as ever and never keen to be too far away from the shop, has booked himself and Nurse Gladys into a hotel just round the corner - where he has problems with an extra tight money belt. - บันเทิง
Sadly the Britain that we lived in and loved when this classic comedy series was aired NO longer exists just like these comedic gems.
R.I.P Ronnie and Lynda ❤
I went there and the only thing British was the architecture.
I am humbled by this comedy, although not many appreciate its ordinary people and world they inhabited in a unique way.
I watch every day.
As long as there are program's like this, all's right in the world.
Yes it,s a break from crazy mdern world
It's programmes and it has no apostrophe so not even close to being right. 😉
Indeed. Lovely escapism from 🤡 🌎
All is not right with the world at all.. This video is the old world not the present world.
All is wrong with the present world.
Yea. Maybe you are right it was a good old world with realhumans than the technologially advanced one of ours!!
Never fails to make me laugh. Ronnie Barker really was a comedy genius and Lynda Baron was brilliant as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. Bless them all.
R.I.P. Lynda Baron, and this is my all-time favourite episode and you`re absolutely fantastic as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel as well as Arkwright still waiting for you in heaven, and well acted in this episode, in which is my all-time favourite episode from series 2.
Always had a 'thing' for Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. Still do even after all these years.
RIP, B PAGE
Albert Arkright. £1 p p p per feather for ye ye yer angel wings. God - I don't need wings. Arkright - thats £2.99 for ye red bull, mutton wool cloud nurse GLADyis......
@@totalrecone - No you don't.
@@jonhohensee3258 Ah, so its you clomping around in your bovver boots inside my conscience, eh? Knowing what and who I like/liked. Pray tell, who *do* I have 'a thing' for if it isn't Nurse Gladys Emmanuel?
And No, Mrs T-t-t-t-ittersalls doesn't count.
I enjoy watching these two. I've never laughed so hard!!
This guy is really to funny with that money belt😅😅
Kathy staff is class..right for this prog.
I.m 58 now I watch this all time 😂
My favourite episode 😄😄 The oxo tin and money belt were just comedy gold ❤
I enjoy watching these two, Thank you for sharing, I laughed so hard!! IF only there were more shops like that now days.
So hilarious when arkwright is trying to walk with that money belt too small for him
I know. And the way the camera would frame Granville's lack of a money belt sometimes before the plot line for the episode got well under way was so hilarious too.
Sooo fun watching these oldies but goodies
One of the best series ever very funny
Quirky old fashion comedy, very cool . Thank you
Loved the money belt.
Hilarious !!!!!!
I absolutely LOVE this episode, it’s by far my favourite!!!!
Mavis is so funny in this episode. I laugh so much every time I watch this one. :)

"You look like the Hunchcrotch of Notre Dame." 🤣🤣
JUST FANTASIC. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL. BEAUTIFUL ENGLAND
Have a corner shop, comes with curry & rice, 24/7 taxis. Price - £1 per center meter.
I like the way the shop was closed on a Sunday.
Things were proper back then.
Yeah, now basically everything is working 24/7..
Brilliant! I would think Ronnie wouldn't need to learn his lines by rote. He goes straight into character and makes it up as he goes I'm sure.
Coor, that milk woman. 🥛 Definitely gold top 😍
OMG! Just AMAZING! Did you see those prices on the window?😅
Inflation is what happens yearly when money is just paper, and not backed up by gold and/or silver.
The money bely scene is so Hilarious Lol 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Had such a crush on Barbara Flynn when I was young ❤️
Yeh me too
And me 😍
I still do.
If cracker can win her, so could I.
She certainly were GGGGGGG Gorgeous!
I notice the headline on the paper “crickets saddest moment” , this episode is from 1981...most likely referring to the underarm bowling incident by Australia against New Zealand, also in 1981
No, it was actually about the cancellation of the WI vs England Test at Guyana because the local government refused to give Robin Jackman a visa and deported him (it's blurry in this video but the top headline says 'Jackman gets his marching orders as tour faces collapse').
The underarm delivery was around the same time though, earlier in February. Looks like they filmed this episode about two weeks before it went to air.
cricket's saddest moment
Yeah, still well remembered, it happened to a local lad.
Granville's soliloquy at 24:15 is worthy of the stage.
19:00 Lovely to see Sir David trying not to laugh when delivering his line 😂😂 Wonderful episode ❤
😊 Absolutely Great 😊 👍🏴
Simply marvelous
Arkwright's view of art and literature: "They're only real to people like teachers, who don't have to work for a living".
A teacher could tell you the correct place for that full stop. 😉
"Hunch Crotch of Notre Dame"😂
Shoes threugh the window....belly laugh everytime
I fell slightly in love with the milk woman (Barbara Flynn), because to me she has a cheeky smile, pretty, and rather sexy.
Of course, now she is in her 70's so has changed a bit, but back then.....
@M-NJ B Thanks....I will have to search YT for ideps.
@M-NJ B Yes, I remember watching that series with James Bolan etc. I have found a play list of the Beidekker series on YT.....:)
I think she played the younger daughter Freda in the Family at War series in the 70s, face is familiar …
Haha, the money belt.
MY PARENTS HAD A CORNER GROCERS SHOP FROM 1975 TO 1981 WE WATCHED OPEN ALL HOURS RELIGIOUSLY BOTH MUM N DAD GONE NOW SHOP GOT TURNED INTO FLATS I LOVE THIS SHOW AND THE REMAKE ISNT BAD LINDA BARRON WAS ONE OF THE LAST ORIGINALS OF THIS BRILLIANT PROGRAMME TO PASS AWAY GOOD NIGHT NURSE GLADYS HOPEFULLY NOW SHES GOT ARKWRIGHT ALL TO HERSELF LOL ♥️🌈🎬📽️📻
Real people and communities back then!
That's so sweet. I'm 48 and live here in the US. I started watching British TV around 10yrs old was fascinated and charmed. Thank God for people like Nurse Gladys in the world. I'm glad this brings nice memories for you. Big hug!❤
@@ozzysx7411. And real Milk Ladies!
Great video quality. Thankyou.
To my friends across the pond, when it came to comedy, the British take the Gold Metal!! Im now 55, since choldhood we would watch British comedy on our public televison. When cable came out, just more oppertunity to watch more. Many of our tv shows where based off of the British ones. There is no comedy on tv today that could touch shows like these.!! Last of the Summer Wine lasting 30 yrs.!! All hilarious!

I recently stayed at the Balmoral Hotel where this was filmed! ^^
Absolutely lovely for such a price!!
Could you see any nightingales?
Could you see Arkwright's shop?

The first and only time the milk woman appears in a studio scene during this episode.
And poor Granville never got to see her gold tops.

I had to look up what "Bird's standard trifle" was. 21:34. They still make it! Was 41p, now it's $9.99 on Amazon.
That comes to £7.91. 💷
Wow... Poor Granville😢😢😢😢
Isn't Linda Baron beautiful in her first appearance with Granville in the shop?
Do you mean the milk float lady?. That's not Lynda Baron.
@@Proman476 The milk float lady is played by Barbara Flynn.
I think it's a real shaame that he and the milk woman neever got together!
Arkwright must have been the inspiration behind Mr. Krabbs on Spongebob.
I sometimes think Granville may have inspired Chandler from Friends 😂 Similar humour
'Oh Granville'
'Oh Mavis'
'Oh yes'
'Oh dear'. 😂😂😂😂
After that, I wouldn't think that he would need the milk maid.
ahhh the milkwomen

That milkwoman is beautiful 😍
Million Dollar Question:
How DID Arkwright put the money belt on?? 🤣🤣🤣
He just j-j-jiggled things a bit
@@WedThursday To the point that he bought a truckload of jeh-jeh-ginger cakes 🤣🤣

I can't help wondering if Granville was at least partly an inspiration for Rik Mayall's character Richie in 'Bottom'; if you exaggerate David Jason's mannerisms, you can see the resemblance.
The Moggie Minor is a clone. I have seen an episode where it has a G plate but that one has an E plate. Maybe she traded it in for a newer model, same colour and no roof rack.

Milk woman is Ga ga ga ga Gorgeous! 🤩
Yes She is❤
If the Granville began his new relationship with the milk lady it would have Broadined
this show, with another character. Or just the milk lady would have had more words in the show. But the old man would have finally hit first base with the nurse.
It's just a shame the old man is just so damn cheap ! !! !!! !!!! !!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!! !!!! !!! !! !
Lmao where u gonna wear it on one leg
I want to go back to the 80's you all can keep your 2022 BS
And your 2023 prices!
I'll buy a ticket on your time machine. Just tell me here when you're leaving. 😂
I'll come too ..
I can come on command 😊
Me too 😂
17;10 the camera moves off Mavis as she starts to slip out of character
G g g Granville 😂😂
And who'd like to own that milk 🥛 cart?
This episode marked the first appearance of Milkwoman.
I can see why Granville likes her. She's naturally cute.
@@cityhawkA YOUNG BEAUTIFUL BARBARA FLYNN ♥️♥️
How old was Granville supposed to be? He looks in his forties.
His character seems like someone in his late 20s to early 30s. That's the read I get from Granville.
In the pilot Granville was in his 20s but David Jason was in his 30s and 40s during the series' run
Funny how he got together with Mavis in the end.
Did Arkwright drop the key on the way out and told Granville to pick it up? Might be why he didn't have it with him later.
If you look at 20:57 below the door you can see that Arkwright has an 'A' and 'E' as first and middle name. I wonder what the 'E' is for.
Edward?
It’s that state registered chest…
R.I.P
19:14 you can see the mic at the top right near the window
Chandler Bing with his sense of humour was EASILY the American version of Granville 🤣🤣🤣
Never thought of that parallel before
Nora Batty!
You just know a shop couldn't exist like this in 2023. Arkwright would have been beaten up by druggies and his shop looted. Ater the third time he would have closed the shop permanently and it would now be a kebab shop.
Most importantly There wouldn’t be any demand at all,
I ass young just like that !!. Maybe this world should be then. Am 70 and lived in thee house. Ta Diolch. Dave
I like to think Granville and the milk woman eventually ended up together after the events of the series. That's just my personal head canon.
MsDjessa If you watch the new series, he ends up with Mavis!
Oh yeah I've watched a couple of that show. But had forgotten about it. Not sure how I feel about it.
Mavis? Maureen and the Milk women were much nicer, and sexier!

I don't think we got to see this in the States on our PBS stations. British TV shows are great to watch. Is that one if the two Ronnie's? We did get them sometimes on PBS. I think they were on Ed Sullivan show
For those who don't know him. He was the man to introduce the Beatles to America in 1964. But this show is funny. My first time to see this.
Yep, thats Ronnie Barker 😁 Absolute British treasure, loved him in this and in Porridge

Speaking of allegedly according to some only foreigners whom the BBC like to make fun of on their fabulous sitcoms making us laugh about human nature in general I wonder what all nations were that one scientist by the name of Mr. Otto Schmidt spent time in before his dying day? Human nature which in some led some scientists to meticulously study the mouth bits on every insect he could find over in Denmark instead of Russia to be classifying them all well enough. Before he ended up being a professor in Germany for the longest time instead. Well maybe that is now why Denmark is said to be the happiest nation in the world now after that scientist returned to his nation of birth after he spent a lot of time learning from a very knowledgeable outdoorsman in a garden over in Sweden instead. Good thing there was not a whole lot of gossips there in Sweden at the time eh? Then Denmark might not have become the happiest nation in the world after finally getting him back home. Instead of Otto Schmidt who prefffered to be only a researcher who was just so happeniing to be only helping out the shipping magnates all along the Northern Sea Route for a whole seven years. Seven years is an awefully long time to be a researcher sailer too who is relying on only his faithful Russian wife back home in Russia. Well maybe that explains his serrious demenour on Wikipedia to this day. I hear that is a very very long sea route you know which is continuing to get lonbger you know. too that never wanted to return to his nation of birth for some reason.

Comedy like this doesn't exist any more....unfortunately! Too politically incorrect, and the WOKE movement would complain to no end.
Ironically, a family of stutterers did write to Ronnie Barker.
They told him how much they LOVED the show and how funny they found the stutter 😂😂 Good old days when people knew how to laugh
