    Hey, actual person with MPD here.
    - Its not called MPD anymore. They changed the name to DID (Dissociative identity Disorder) many years ago
    -our physical body doesn't change but things like mannerisms, the way we speak, dominant hand, etc. do change.
    - Split is a terrible representation of DID. alters are more likely to be abused than to abuse someone. Let alone literally eat people like in the movie. Bet u everything I have that anyone who has DID hates that movie.
    -My dog does notice my switches but simply because I zone out and it freaks him out when we're playing and I suddenly go blank.
    -some systems have sudden switches but most of us can tell when a switch is coming. I would simply excuse myself if I were around ppl who didn't know about my system instead of outing myself to a bunch of strangers. (System = a group of alters)
    Just wanted to clear up these misconceptions bcus DID is highly misunderstood because of the spread of misinformation and it directly impacts those with the disorder. I've had ppl literally fear me and my alters because of stereotypes.
    Thanks for coming 2 my Ted talk.

      @@TwoHotTakes I’m not sure why your response seems rude, but it does. The commenter you’re replying to never said that’s the movie they were referencing. If you want to nit pick. I’d say it’s moreso that your friends seemingly get their information on a mental disorder from Hollywood, which has a very morphed gaze of what DID actually is, and being ignorant to that fact can be harmful.
      It has little to do with the specific movie.
      Usually, I enjoy everyone’s takes and I find you all to be fairly educated and informative! Some bits of this episode were just a miss.

    The second story makes me wonder if, on another timeline, there's a Reddit, and some hotel receptionist has posted about some weird college kids who came to their hotel wanting to do a paranormal investigation, then mysteriously vanished as they stood in the parking lot with their gear.

    I’m diabetic. The night after my grandpa passed, I had a low sugar in my sleep. It was really unusual but I woke up in the middle of the night and I could smell his distinct cologne. When I checked my sugar, it was dangerously low. I believe my grandpa saved me that night.

      I actually believe this, I've had this strange thing happen to me, and maybe I've imagined it, but I like to believe it was real. I'm originally from Czech Republic (my family is there), I went to the US for two years (au pair program). Within a month of me being there, hurricane Sandy happened, and I needed to get some food and supplies. I was left alone in the house NY (host family went to Florida), and I was scared. I didn't know what to expect (we don't have hurricanes). I had my own car (always drove it unless I had the kids), and as I was going to grab my keys, my hand nearly getting hold of them on the key hook, I had this overwhelming feeling, I can't explain it, it felt like "something" is telling me not to take my car. I knowingly grabbed keys for another (family) car instead, I have never driven that car just myself in. I had a car accident so close to the house. The police man told me as he was dropping me by my house, so randomly, "Thank God you weren't in this car, you wouldn't have survived," pointing at my small car. Also, bear in mind that I was 6 hrs behind Czech. I called my mum, telling her what happened, that i was ok, and telling her about taking the other car. I later found out that my grandma died at the exact time as I was grabbing the keys (my mom was there). Maybe she somehow knew that my mum would not survive losing us both on the same day and gave me a warning ? But we've never had any other stuff going on.
      I love that your grandpa was looking out for you. I know many sceptics can find an explanation, but I like the idea of our loved ones looking out for us even though they're not here. (Gardian angels).

    In the second story when the receptionist mentioned the scheduling mix up, that's what really sent me. Like oh sorry dude, we weren't expecting you for another 10 years. Also I would be fascinated to know if the hotel now looks like what they saw. Like maybe it was a look into the future rather than the past? Doesn't fit with a theory of residual energies or anything but it would be trippy as hell

      The way he said that people who stay at the hotel now see people walk into dead ends and stuff I’d lean more towards it being a glimpse into the past. I wonder if he went and was actually shown the walls that people see ghosts walking through if they would be walls that weren’t previously there in the experience he and his friends there.

      I have one issue with this story. The author mentions that the three of them had sensors and equipment when they walked into the building, so then why would they go back to the van after the tour to get their equipment again? Not sure I believe this one.

  • @switchkitten
    @switchkitten 2 ปีที่แล้ว +568

    The second story sends absolute chills through me!
    Also, the battery drained from every piece of equipment except the van makes sense.
    An entity would have to need a TON of energy to pull off an illusion not only that detailed, but for three people to witness it at the same time!
    ~~~~~
    After listening to OP’s deduction about what happened, it’s very possible (and would make more sense) that the three of them stumbled into an alternate timeline.
      This story also heavily reminded me of the movie Ghost Ship (2002), where upon encountering a ship lost at sea the main crew begins seeing the ghost ship in its former glory. The ship preys on the crew with these visions and slowly begins killing them. What if this property has malicious intentions? Why else would the ghosts or people still appear randomly just to disappear?
He told me that (in his dream) his brother came in to his room and asked to play Mario kart with him (my friend was only 12 at the time). In the dream they played the game and at the end his brother hugged him and said “you’re gonna be okay, I’ll miss you Trevor” and then walked out of the room.     51:55: I just wanna add my two cents as a psychology student and researchers about multi personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder or DID. There is a lot of stigma and misunderstanding around, well, most disorders, and this one is no different. It is a childhood trauma response that hinders development of a single formed identity. There is nothing scary about it. I can't speak for people with DID, but I highly doubt it a shift to cause a response like that in an animal, and I would be very weary about speaking like this about disorders that you have no idea about, as it hurts people who struggle with this every day. There is already enough stigma around mental health, please do not spread more by misattributing mental illness with demonic possession.
      There's a couple of TH-camrs with DID that are really good with educating about the disorder. I feel like the dog definitely wouldn't react like that to the switch like because it would be used to that by then. Plus, I don't think that alters can change the body's eye color...
    • @SwampRobin
      @SwampRobin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22
      Yes. When we experience trauma we divide our emotional response “parts” and in people with no mood or personality disorders, those parts can be found and used to go over that past trauma and solve it, to a degree.
      In DID those parts fragment so hard from the “true self” that when triggered, those parts of ourselves that were designed to help cope with stress, emotion, trauma, are now fully developed into their own self.
      So the part of me that defended me from physical abuse is very quiet and quick to take misunderstandings as personal attacks. I have to make a real concerted effort to realize I am operating in this part.
      Yes, it changes how I feel and respond. It changes how I react to triggers, even IF I will be triggered in that moment depending on what part is present.
      Through therapy I feel I am closer to knowing my true self but I can’t always make her come out.
      I am a dog trainer, I have never had an animal react like that to a shift in my mood. Some CAN tell and will act a little stiff if I’m in a state they don’t recognize well. I see them look warily at me and it makes me realize I’ve been in my brain a little too much. Brings be back.
      However... one of my best friends committed suicide. A year before he did so, my dog lost his shit on him. Scream barking, would not let my friend anywhere near him, or me. After my friends death.. it came out what kinds of things he did to people. Horrible things. Life altering and some even life ending.
      I do think animals can pick up on true danger.
      I know that again, I'm not expert. But based on what I do know, that doesn't sound like DID.
      Also I don't think that the dog would be upset if it was a switch in personalities if he had DID.
Every once in a while I would feel him brush against my leg like how he used to when he was still alive.
    an effect of oxygen deprivation that often goes unknown is that it can mimic the same dreamstate hallucinations that you get when falling asleep, or just waking up. Ever been laying in bed with a partner, about to fall asleep, totally convinced you're having a full on conversation, and then they *actually* say something and you realised you had dreamt it? That's the same kind of dreaming while awake that low oxygen can trigger!
      Hypoxia certainly can do that, especially if the person visiting lives at sea level. But living in CO I can say the people that visit from out of town usually only get altitude sickness when hiking, running, or drinking lol. Estes park is about 7500'. I usually see the altitude sickness at around 10,000+ deeper in the mountains (or, again, because of drinking) But she does have a history of palpitations which would also affect O2 saturation!
He had a nightmare about his son, woke up, and by the time he finished his cigarette, he had mapped out the book. It’s inspired by his stay, and other guest accounts there.     This isn’t scary, but I find it comforting. My grandma died in 2020, and my uncle passed away in the same house years earlier. This spring, my sisters and I had the task of helping our grandpa move everything out and find a new place. It was a hoarder situation, so it was a process that took 2 months. It was bittersweet and very emotional. They lived in that house for nearly 40 years. All of our happy memories with nana and papa and uncle Kevin happened in that house. All the holidays, birthdays, etc. I’m bawling just thinking about it. The very last day we were there, it was extra emotional. The house was empty, and I stood on the porch and looked back at the house. I started to cry, and I was hit with a very intense, distinct smell of grape soda. I frantically looked around for a source of this smell, but I couldn’t find anything. For a few minutes, all I could smell was grape soda, it was so distinct and very strong. I didn’t understand why, until I remembered my uncle used to drink grape soda when we were kids. It was very peaceful and oddly comforting. I felt like that gave me a unique sense of closure for a chapter of my life that ended.
      One of my great uncles passed nearly 20 years ago from cancer. Him and my aunt were soulmates, and she has never and will never remarry. To her she is still very much married to him, and that will never change. Even 20 years later, she STILL will experience the sudden strong scent of his (very distinct) cologne at times, including times where she is all alone and there is literally NO other source the smell could be coming from. She says it always brings a smile to her face and she’ll talk to him for a bit, knowing in her heart that he is with her.
      Three years ago, my grandmother passed away completely unexpectedly. She was my best friend and we were extremely close and had such a special relationship. I was absolutely devastated and inconsolable. I’ve lost a lot of loved ones in my lifetime, but her sudden death absolutely broke me like no other death has. Even three years later I’m still just as heartbroken and cry regularly. Anyway, she absolutely loved angels, and that’s an understatement. Her home was literally inundated with hundreds of them dispersed in every room of the house. She also loved animals and birds, and spent her days caring for all the animals, both pets and wild, as well as fed the birds she so fondly looked after. After her passing, we had chatted with the wonderful and incredibly sweet funeral director, and she was talking about the different stories she had heard over the years of the different “signs” or unexplainable occurrences people commonly had after the death of a loved one as a reminder of their presence. One of those she mentioned was people repeatedly encountering the presence feathers, which I thought was neat but totally forgot about after a week. That was until feathers started showing up in our yard outside nearly every day. Of course everyone will see a feather in their yard every now and then, but we rarely see them in our yard, maybe once every year or two. We didn’t think anything of it at first, but they kept showing up. Often times several at a time, all of them differently colored from different birds, all waiting for us each morning, ONLY in our yard and none in our neighbors’ yards. This continued for nearly a month, until the very last feather appeared on my birthday. It was beautifully vivid white (and there are no white feathered birds here), except for one small grayish tan spot on it that was shaped like a perfect heart. Not a blob that you had to squint to see what you want to see, a perfectly symmetrical heart with crisp edges. I had been devastated and honestly dreading spending my birthday without her, but receiving that feather, I just knew that was her way of telling me she was still with me. To this day, I have yet to see another feather in our yard after the heart feather I received on my birthday three years ago.
    Hey. For that last listener write in concerning Scorpion: the board is actually a good divination tool to contact spirits and ghosts alike but not properly closing the conversation can lead to malicious entities attaching to you. Scorpion was absolutely experiencing some sort of demonic possession or something of that sort. Evil entities drain energy and can make humans very very sick, destroying their bodies quickly or slowly, completely up to them. That house needs a very strong cleansing and to make sure there aren't any "portals" in said house so it can be avoided in the future. Whatever that entity is is very strong and powerful and not to be fucked with.
People who have those illnesses are NOT violent or evil as depicted in the split movie.     FYI, you were talking about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), its not called "split personality disorder", and there are a lot of terrible stereotypes were people think those with DID have a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde relationship with their other identities. This is not the case, the vast majority of the time all of the identities are peaceful, they are just different, like having several friends all in the same body. There are a lot of great TH-cam videos on the subject, I probably butchered the explanation (I don't have DID, but seek to understand it) so I would recommend going and watching videos.
    The story with her mom and sister having the same dream reminded me of a similar situation growing up. I was probably 15-16 years old and I had a very vivid dream of a house in a big open field with a 1960s/70s feel. From the house walked my great grandmother and great grandfather, and aunt (all of whom I’ve never met because they past long before I was born). They all greeted me and we got into the car together to head to church and talked about all of the things they had missed in my family’s lives. When I woke up I could remember every single detail (and still can). The dream was weighing on my heart all day so in the evening following the dream, I mentioned to my mom that I had a dream where I met my great grandparents and aunt, and my mom immediately burst into tears because she had the exact same dream that night. We bounced minute details off of each other from the color of the car to the types of birds printed on my grandmothers coat, and it felt incredibly surreal. The only difference was that my aunt would not look at or speak to my mom and my grandparents told her it’s because my mom was not ready yet. It’s something that I think about often.
Tbh when the batteries were mentioned along with the theory about an alternate timeline, my conclusion was that it wasn’t the energy of ghosts that caused the batteries to get drained but the amount of energy it would’ve taken to “hop in” to the a different timeline and out. I’d be very interested in hearing if the crew felt tired or drained after exiting and leaving the hotel. The stigma around the word "commit" is that is was a choice rather than a consequence of mental illness.       I stayed for 4 days during a school competition at a hotel in Morelia. One of the nights had a dance, and I hate loud gatherings (shocking I know for a Mexican not to like parties lol). Anyways I decide to go to the garden, since the hotel was placed on an old building, the garden was beautiful and it was a nice crisp fall evening.
      As I’m sitting on one of the couches I hear a child crying on the building I front of me that was used for conferences, I assumed a worker might’ve brought their kid to work and the kid woke up. So I got up and went to reception and let them know. They looked at me puzzled and got the manager, and we walk out to the garden and I tell them, don’t you hear it? They didn’t. And that’s when they told me, they knew of a child ghost that was usually spotted on the third floor of the building. Never in the conference room. The manager and the security guy went in and no one was there.
      I was a little unsettled so I stayed in the lobby, every once in a while workers will come and ask me about what I heard. When my classmates came back I told them about it and went to our room and sleep. About an hour later, my classmate wakes me up and asks if I could feel it. I quietly said yes. It felt tense, heavy air and my heart was raising we turned the light on and ran outside and down to the lobby. And slept there lol.
      Later in college as I attended in Morelia, I realized how hunted the whole city is…those are whole other stories lol
    “You can’t rule out multiple personality disorder” yes you can. You can 100% rule it out. He doesn’t have it. If your only exposure to a disorder is a movie that uses the wrong terminology for the whole illness and is a murderer maybe don’t try to speak on it. I’m sure she doesn’t mean anything by it. But you don’t know anything about DID. How it’s formed. It’s extreme and repeated trauma before the age of about 10. No it doesn’t change your eye color. Or how you look. What it does change is how your brain will forever work. It’s also a hidden disorder. Meaning it hides from every one including the person who has it. Because it’s a trauma response it’s dangerous for the the alters the be wildly different from the “original”. Some one could live their whole life with out ever knowing. And it doesn’t make some one more likely to kidnap a group of girls and subject them to the same torment that they likely experienced themselves and then murder them. That movie was filled with inaccuracies and bullshit. And as a grown adult who is being given a platform you could at the very least think about what you are talking about before say it. You wouldn’t watch a movie about cancer and claim to know shit about cancer. So why is this any different. I genuinely don’t care how this comes across, because the things you said are absolutely deplorable. Mental illness doesn’t make someone more likely to murder some one.
      Although I completely agree. I will say that certain cases of did can be more prone to aggressive responses. And I will just say that to say this- I don’t think that equates to murderers, but it can mean that they would be more likely to respond with violence than other people without Did. I am not an expert, nor am I am expert in paranormal but it would seem in the Scorpio story that the man became shadowed or possessed. And I will also that that ik did is a trauma response from ongoing childhood trauma in the formative years, and no they are not bad people and no one should paint an inaccurate picture because it is a disorder that takes years and years of hard self work and therapy and so I commend those often sweet, sadly abused people who have taught to be where they are!
    In addition to 23:00 : yes there are theories that an endless number of realities exist simultaneously because for every decision an individual makes multiple realities are then split for the decisions he/she could've made and exist in a sort of parallel universe.
    As you can imagine this would result in an infinite number of realities existing in close proximity and possibly even overlapping in some places.
    I personally don't know if I buy into this because it really seems "out there" but a lot of metaphysics is kinda out there 😅
    A lot of science fiction also uses this idea of parallel universes.
    the golden retriever story reminded me of something that happened to me last fall - my parakeet died when i was away at college, and my parents buried her in the garden for me. the first time i went to visit the little gravesite, my dad came out to bring me back in, because he was definitely worried for me. as we turned around and walked back to the house through my yard, i SWEAR i felt like something flew right by my ear. stories like koda keep me grounded to some degree
      I had a classmate pass away and I saw a rainbow light on the wall of my room when I couldn’t sleep after finding out.
      I also have some stories from family members seeing a woman in 1800’s clothing standing over their baby’s crib. Medium told my aunt that it is a family guardian angel, which she had never heard of before.
      My dog passed away, and we kept hearing bell ringing even though we donated the bells that our dog would ring to go outside.
    I passed out on a bus once that was over crowded with no seating which made me feel anxious and claustrophobic. I remember starting to feel weird and sick and i guess passed out due to my breathing? But I remember hallucinating weird figures and hearing ominous music in my head as I started gaining consciousness before my vision came back. This has never happened before or since.
    I’m currently living in a dorm where I’ve experienced very strange activity: keys disappearing for days and re-appearing on desks, pictures thrown off the wall, doors opening and closing, scratching/banging on the walls, you name it. It’s also a very common occurrence for residents to wake up in the middle of the night and feel as if they’re being watched (I always sleep with a cover over my head because of this). I’ll probably do a write-in next year since I will have graduated by then.
    My grandma has what you can call a 'happy ghost story'.
    So my grandpa died a few years ago in my grandma's garden- he had a sudden heart attac and ambulance didn't make it on time. In smaller villages in my country, there's still this tradition of keeping the casket with a dead person in it IN YOUR HOUSE for three days, before the funeral, so that the family and friends can come and say their prayers and goodbyes (very few people do that these days).
    So after he passed away my grandma had a dream of my grandpa coming to her from the garden with fresh raspberries (he often did that when he was alive) and saying that everything will be ok.
    Few months later, I'm going to sleep with my grandma in her bed (me and my cousins did that whenever we came over so she wouldn't feel alone) and after we talked for a while she said 'Ok, I have to go sleep now, because I'm waking up at 5 a.m to bake bread.'
    So curious 13 year old me said "I was wondering, you always say that you have to wake up at certain time, but you never set any alarm. How do you wake up when you want?"
    And she replied with: 'After I pray I just ask grandpa to wake me up, and he always does."
    Also every time I'm in the living room where the casket was, or in the kitchen- where my grandpa liked to nap (there was a small bed there) I never feel alone, always like there's something in there with me.
    To add to that story, I have a little cousin (3 years old), and one time when I was playing with her in the kitchen she said "There's someone standing in the corner". I laughed it off and said that there was nothing there, but she kept staring for some time, smiled at the empty corner and went back to playing with me. (She never met my grandpa, he died four years before she was born). She also saw something in the attic after that, but I don't think it's connected because she was scared of leaving the room.
      @@silvsevie not true! it is the person that was there first. you cant have DID without trauma. therefore your alters werent always with you. the system IS the original persons, aka we all are the “original”
    • @insertname1857
      @insertname1857 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
      @@Sleepy_Slytherin from a person with DID: you are totally wrong. the host is whoever fronts the most. there is no "original" person. it is not that the brain splits, but that the brain fails to integrate. when born, there is no integrated personality. babies have mood states, a state of "im hungry" "im happy" "im cold" "i hurt". as children grow up, these separated states begin to come together and integrate into one personality. by age 10, a healthy brain has brought all these pieces together and become a cohesive personality. when faced with repeated trauma and a propensity to dissociate, these parts fail to integrate. dissociative barriers come up, and the states develop their own separate personality and sense of self, and become alters. there is no "original" part, as there was never a cohesive whole.
    I love this one! I do wish you could read the scarier ones though and not skip over the scary parts. Still entertaining nevertheless! I do find it a bit strange that they’re responding to comments critiquing the DID conversation in such a defensive way. Why can’t they just respond by saying “thank you for sharing more info on this! Please know that we did not mean to insult anyone who has or knows someone that has DID” or something as SIMPLE as that. It’s coming off really terribly to immediately respond on the defense and it makes it seem ruder than it was in the first place. I just think they should rethink how they’re responding to some people. Thats all! Still love this and will keep watching!
      Agree 100% - I absolutely picked up on this too and felt conflicted and defensive myself against their responses to heartfelt concern and genuine experiences of people living with DID. Granted some of the comments may have been harsh, but I feel that it was definitely necessary to stress the importance of misrepresentation to ensure that this wouldn't be taken lightly.
But any time I feel defeated whether in situations in my family or at work he will always appear in my dreams. Just like how he was when he was alive. His anniversary just passed and this Wednesday was his birthday. And Sunday he was in my dreams again.
    I've had so many in my life. My first real one was probably when I had moved to my late step dad's house. As a teen, me, my sibling and my mom would just experience really odd things that you just couldn't explain. Knocking on doors, footsteps in the hallway (we had wood floors so it was even more noticeable), some soft voices almost as if it was whispers, doors unlocking by themselves, things getting moved about in one of the bathrooms that we couldn't explain. There was another time I was in bed one night, just watching a show and I wasn't asleep yet..nor was dozing off and something, or someone whispered in my left ear. Couldn't make out what they said..but it was very much a voice. I get up very quickly, and look around..knowing I'm the only one in the room. But, still freaked me out.
    Same house. Same room..2-3 years later. I'm in bed sleeping before my classes the next day. When all of a sudden, something gripped my feet as if it was like hands grabbing a hold of me. Mind you..at the time, I slept in pitch black. No lights. No TV. Only my fan on. So I just figured maybe my sibling had snuck in my room trying to scare me. So, I get out of bed and turn on my light and look around to see..I'm the only one in the room. A lot of weird things happened in that house. My mom and sibling said they several times saw a girl standing in the hallway, and then she would just quickly vanish.
    Moved a few years after HS, and even where I live now..I sometimes have these weird occurrence's and at times can feel things.
