I have one of these tents, and coming back from photographing the last full eclipse of the Sun, I stopped at Yosemite, found a nice camp site and set up the tent. I went for a drive through the park, and heard thunder from where I had set up camp. When I returned, I saw my campsite had been inundated, and the water had reached almost to the lip of the bath tub of the tent. My pack, and my sleeping bag and other stuff I tossed into the tent were completely dry, though I had only roughly thrown the tent together. It is a fantastic car packing tent, but have not yet packed it into back country.

Right on! Having dry gear makes the experience more enjoyable!

Thanks so much for your review. Next week is anniversary week at REI. I'm thinking I can get a pretty good deal on one of these, and I'm usually a motorcycle camper, so the weight doesn't bother me.

In have my 35 year old Sears Hillary 3 person 6.5 lb tent with the plastic floor rolled up to 7"x13" in a compression sack and could probably get it smaller using straps, have you tried rolling it different ways? Just curious because I'm looking for something a bit smaller to carry and can't picture this being bigger than mine when packed.

Excellent video! I’m planning on bringing my young girls on their first backpacking trip soon. Inoticed your son had a nice small backpack. Care to share what brand and any feedback?

Thank you! Deuter is the brand of pack he is using. The size is 18L. My son is about 55lbs and the weight we placed in the bag was minimal. He only carried a small sleeping bag, jacket, and UL sleeping pad and 1 full L of water.

Great video! Very helpful and straightforward. Have you tried setting it up as a fast pitch (Just the footprint and rainfly)? I'm curious to know how it looks.

Not yet! Whenever I am in a position where the weather is good enough for a quick pitch I tend to throw a tent out all together and sleep under the stars! I will try it, though!

Does this one measure 90" long like the latest "SL" Super Light version? If it's 90" long, I was wondering if you could tell me how long it is 4" high off the ground. I wonder because both my pads are thick and I'm trying to see if these are rally long enough for me. Does it appear to be under 7' long when measured 4" high due to the sloped sides of the tent? Nice to see you getting that little feller out there with his dad. :)

I am sorry but I don't have an answer to your question. I have a sleeping pad that is about 2 inches longer than I am at 6'2". It fits well and my feet and head don't touch the end of the tent at the same time.

@@sciotoriverco-op6358 Thanks. I ended up going with a larger older model used from the bay cus I wasn't sure. It's just like new and got a good deal, so all is good. Nice to know I can probably fit in this one no problem too though.
