    Wow...wish I'd had this information about 30 years ago... it's truly farming of the future! And the exact kinds of things young people are hungry for. They don't wanna be wage slaves, they see the world floundering... how much better to be involved with solutions that pay them in money and experience, that they have control over... I can't think of a better combination!

      It depends upon how thick you cover the ground with useful vegetation. If a weed is useful then it isn't a weed.

    • @ajb.822
      @ajb.822 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found out the hard way that it is very important. take his example, beans ( I took it as in green) - much "weeds" or useful ( I do agree they are useful, they all have a job) or even too closely planted or un-thinned ( which technically is aka weeded out) bean plants, & you get issues from too much moisture being held in by the plants. In areas where its humid in summer, that is an issue !!! Mildew, "rust" & so on. for others, it is issue cuz it takes away moisture from the plants, or makes them hard to find ( potatoes, if you wait til plants are quite dried, esp. ). I understand why yall are tempted to pick on him on this, with modern cultures being so extremely anti-weed & not understanding all the good they do, but many of us do know & still have to weed, & its still the term for that activity & the term by which most everyone knows those, typically not very desired in one's garden, plants . BTW I am learning a lot more about no-dig this past yr ( already did mulching & was sorta trying no-dig) & how the tilling, even the initial plowing & tilling, is unnecessary & creates the weed problem. with no-dig there'll still be some & I love letting a lambsquarters grow a bit them giving it to my chickens.

    I love Joel, but I certainly don't appreciate his demeaning criticism of farmers markets. What if, farmers are grown-ups? Grown-ups who know their own business and they can decide for themselves whether or not it is worth it for them to have a stall at farmers markets--even if they aren't making $2,000 every time? And what if, it's either people that get their local food at farmers markets or not at all?

    So what this guy does is mitigate risk, and transfer it onto the worker, injury your fault, crop failure your fault etc. I think he's gone too far... intensivisation yes, manipulation, profiteering and exploitation no. Just because you own a brand or means of production does not give you the authority to profit from poverty not really an original idea many companies do it i.e Apple, foxxcon etc. What if you can't work because you've got a cramp in your back? You have cancer? You have the Flu? You simply go onto the street and die?
    What would be a fairer model? Perhaps a type of co-operative model, of course you need the capital to become part of this model so it's not straight forward, and yes you need reward for the harder works vs laziness. This would certainly be an issue for the likes of Joel as it wouldn't give him maxim return on investment. One things for sure this mindset is American, try this in Europe and people will simply not work for you, as an employer you have some responsibilities towards your workers that include fair pay, safe working environment... the more impressionable individual could be misguided into believing that this guy is entrepreneurial but if your removing risk and placing it onto other your in order to start your venture simply because you have more capital you just an opportunist.. At best!
    This mentality of passing the buck for a slice of revenue has led to the US (and most other) farming sector's corruption.
    Summary :this isn't revolution, just a rosy manipulation.

      +B1GuD0G Fine. How about you go to Eurpoe and do it how you think it ought to be done?
      Fact is, this is America... and farmers in America have been shouldering the risk, doing without health insurance, etc ever since America began.
      If you want to coddle people, go right ahead.
      But give me freedom or give me death.

    • @B1GuD0G

      +polly jetix I am in Europe, your negativity towards health care is why Europeanans (>50%) view the USA as a unlikeable failed state: race riots(given that all non indigenous people are a foreign race), inequality, gun tooting imperialist. people can't be left to die like vermin in the gutter, irony given the confused politics of the USA, were the Bible belt should be loving their neighbours yet they'll happy watch them die because they're not as rich enough, that called exploitation. if the business cannot survive on merit by being responsible it's a failed business... that is capitalism what you preach is oligarchy.

USA 7 Trillion debt and counting... 0.6 trillion spending on defence EVERY year and huge subsidies to Monsanto and Corn producers. I'll stay in GMO free "Europe" thank. BTW no European defines themselves as from Europe as I wouldn't want to be confused with your imperialist cousins (English).

    • @sullivamp1
      @sullivamp1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +B1GuD0G no race riots in Europe? No gun toting imperialists? Universal healthcare that is overbooked? No minorities that are discriminated against? You're obviously not up on current events, and your arguments are baseless. The disavowed Muslim minority, the nationalist and racist marches across the EU. France and the U.K. are bombing just as many countries as the US. Belgium is the gun running hub of Europe. Great Britain still occupies Ireland. When you are actually informed on any of these subjects, by all means share your opinion. In the meantime you sound as silly as Mr. Trump. Quit attempting to sound more intelligent than you are, shit stain.
