The Minister of Finance and Minister of State Owned Enterprises are the two shareholding ministers. It is bizarre that the national rail network being the country second largest land transport network has to make a profit let the State Highway network doesn't.

IM no train spotter, but i think part of the problem comes with electrification. for there to be a continuous circuit in the tracks the expansion joints have been removed. If you divide the total length by 39.37 you will get the total expansion of the alloy steel.

This is what happens when ESSENTIAL infrastructure is run on a minimum budget with cost cutting wherever possible as it just kicks the problems & cost down the road. This is also why the regional fuel tax SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED in favour of congestion charges or tolls (both of which hurt poor families more than rich ones). This is also an engineering issue with the tracks not designed to allow the required expansion/contraction (most likely due to cost cutting) as other countries run trains in these weather variations. When will we learn that saving money today only costs a lot more money tomorrow? Over engineering costs us today but pushes these issues well down the road with time to fix before becoming an issue much later.

Far as I'm aware the supply and return power are both overhead, if a continuous link is needed between expansion joints on the rails a cable bonding link could be fitted to allow for movement. Not that hard or expensive, we have used a similar system for years on commercial and industrial building sites for cable containment trays and ladders. This should be a non issue. At is very unprofessional with their services in all areas. If they don't have the knowledge to run a reliable service, then get in someone that does. China has a train that lays up to 2000km per day with only 7 staff. Here it takes 5 or more workers up to two days just to fill in a pot hole. Dornwell Rd, Mt roskiill, it took two nights just to paint triangles on the speed humps

At brought in the petrol tax to pay for tranfport. Our roads are in a discusting state or disreapear. How would they fair if yhey were biund by the nz health and safety laws. Also the tax doesn't just cover our petrol. Everything that is transported by road is affected meaning we have to pay more for everything we buy. Food is the biggest concern

And yet they can put speed bumps literally everywhere. All that asphalt would be better used to fix potholes. Anybody remember asking for speedbumps that'll gut the underside of the average car? I've stopped going to certain parks now because I don't want to destroy the exhaust or oil pan in my stock standard Corolla station wagon.

In the UK they paint them white, it lowers the temp by 10 degrees. Also if heat is a major issue why didn’t they lay a sprinkler system when they redid the tracks to aid in cooling them down, or at least engineer another solution. We must have the worse public transport. I think trains in India are more reliable than Auckland. AT has a lot to answer to, Panmure for example has been destroyed, removing the roundabout has created major issues. Ridiculous rerouting into Queens road, and speed bumps as big as houses. They then remove all the decent buses and replace them with routes people don’t want. AT Transport are clearly incompetent and incapable of doing anything right at the moment, not to mention a 3 billion dollar hole that’s escalated to over 5 billion they call an inter city rail link, that’s quite a blowout.

Kiwi Rail has to be using inferior steel for the tracks these days. Auckland has always had high temperatures around this time of the year. It wasn't so much of a problem when the diesel trains ran at the same time of the year so what has changed? Ever since the introduction of the electric train network - nothing but problems. Get rid of them and build better highways. Stop putting a bandaid on our transportation network.
