I just learned something quite interesting, it turns out that the Punic Wars never officially ended until 1985, when the mayors of both cities signed a ceremonial treaty.
People use that thinking to say that the Korean War is still ongoing, but seriously if the fighting stopped a long time ago and veterans and leaders are commemorating it every anniversary, then I think it’s safe to say a damn treaty is not entirely needed to end a war.
I think the theory is that the Romans DID know how to build ships, it's just that Carthaginian ships were FAR more superior; large yet aerodynamic, and with more space for more rowers. If the Romans did anything well, it was to not only copy technology but make it BETTER. They added a rotating crane-like contraption to the ships that enabled them to latch onto enemies and board them, which gave them an edge against Carthage. The Romans also showed this kind of innovation and adaptability when they altered their battle formations in order to evade and tire out Carthage's elephants. Rome's ingenuity and ability to change is what defined the Punic Wars.
Canessa1298 Oh shit! You got me :P I don't claim to know anything about ships, I just know a lot about the Romans. ... although ships are also powered by wind, so air is involved

Interesting tidbit. Carthage is the English pronunciation of Cathago (Cartago), which is the latinization of what the Carthaginians called their city, which was something along the lines of "Qart'hadasht". They called themselves the "Qart'hadashtim".
Thomas Peterlin qarth hadast means new city, it was founded by the Phoenian traders and later carthaginians founded Nova carthago in Spain which means.. New new city.

It's been just a bit over 5 years and EH is one of the best history series on TH-cam
Thanks guys for including that bit in the comments. I passed it on to my history teacher so that he can use it in his lectures. Who knows, maybe we'll win you some converts to watch your web series out of it :)
Guys, you should get paid to make these videos for history. I would love to see them.
Old but gold.Watched the entire stories and I can say all are worth spending time in.Thank you for these summaries of historical events!
And so, the sponsorship was invented.
Carthage could have won in the first or second punic wars if its noble and wealthy families had put more into the war effort.

It is amazing how easily your format can transition into teaching history. I was sucked right in, and now I have to leave for work :(
Oversimplified and Extra History covers the same topic, wooooooooo

Oversimplified just put out the Punic war in a two part series. They really don’t gloss over the first war and it’s Hella funny you should definitely go check it out!! Oversimplified!

"Wait for enemy to make a mistake. Die. Stand by for Ghost Resurrection. Repeat as necessary."
This guy's either gonna explode from this video now that oversimplified made a video too, or they are going to be a long forgotten TH-cam channel
New new city.
and we was hoping to rebuild the empire , then the Arabs came
