  • There is often a taboo around talking about period, despite it is a natural thing that can affect a female athlete performance or training. Together with Katja Mjosund, Team Doctor of Finland, Sandra Flunger, coach of team Switzerland, Andrea Zattoni, coach of team Italy, and Elisa Gasparin, we tackle this topic to generate awerness and try lifting the coyness around the discussion.

Thank you! Menstruation should not be a taboo topic.

I was interested in this topic. And I was wondering how all our charming female biathlets can perform during the period. They're really strong.

That's a good topic. I always wondered how female athletes compete on the first day of their circle. I cannot even get out of bed on this day (I work from home using a laptop).

I often had more problems in the 2 days before my period than during it and only sometimes on the first day (I never did biathlon, I was a swimmer). I even often found that I was particularly efficient on the second and third day of my period.
Also, the increase in training intensity was much more successful in the first half of the cycle than in the second half. Then I often felt heavy and immobile and was exhausted more quickly.

Thank you for sharing this. I write commentary on women's sport and have wanted to start working this subject into my columns for some time now. This video will help make that less difficult and has given me some good insights on the subject. Very much appreciated.

Amenorrhea is a body answering the overtraining question with a resounding "YES!"

Props to every athlete who can train and compete during their period. I certainly wouldn't be able to. And we have to remember that it's not only the period that can bring problems, but also PMS.

It should be noted that research has shown that on certain days of a woman’s period, she may experience a lactate sparing effect.
