I raised wolves and wolf dogs. This is the first time in all the years I’ve heard someone describe their personality and characteristics honestly and more importantly..correctly. They are exactly as you say. I loved them so much. The pack disappeared one by one through natural attrition. The last one was my daughter’s Brother Moon. He was born three days after she was and they were inseparable. He passed away just days before their fifteenth birthday. I’m old enough now that if I had them again they would outlive me. That would be morally reprehensible on my part. But oh how I miss them.

My first dog was a wolf dog, he was pretty high in the percentage of wolf. My dad found him as a puppy in the forest covered in his own blood. He was the sweetest boy, I remember my mom used to get calls from our neighbors telling us our wolf was out, he would walk around town all day and return home at the end of the day. After a few years of that the people in my town knew who he was, and would give him treats and food. He also used to stand up on his hind legs, and eat bread off the top of our fridge. Rip Honcho.

Friend of mine had a pure white wolf/shepherd mix, also named Dakota. He was always leery of allowing Dakota around his 1-2 year old daughter, because people kept telling him that wolf dogs weren't good around children. But it got really cold one winter, and he felt really guilty leaving Dakota outside (even though he wasn't bothered at all), so he let Dakota in the house. His little girl crawled all over Dakota, pulling his hair, his ears, and just laying on him, and he couldn't have cared less. Sadly, my friend had to give Dakota to the Humane Society because he was unemployed and couldn't afford to feed him. That dog could easily eat 80 pounds of dog food in a week, and still look starved.

I had a best Bud for nearly 16 years by the name of Bear. He was 3/4 Timber Wolf and 1/4 Collie. This guy was so loved it was unimaginable. Trusted with no bounds. My neighbors trusted him to the point they could do their chit chat thing knowing if Bear was out their children were safe. Let me ask you this. How many mothers have come to you and asked if Bear could come out to play? After 16 years. He finally passed due to heart issues. Best memories Bear gave me are just way to many to describe. So yes, it is disappointing to hear those without absolutely zero knowledge of the Wolf let alone a Wolf Dog hybrid to say how dangerous or aggressive they are. No a wolf is not an animal to mess with in the wild. On the most part I have personally found in the open wild their tendencies are flight than fight unlike a Coyote.

beautiful story, just solidifies the reasons as to why they became mans best friend. people seem to have forgotten that it was their lack of aggression, increased curiosity and pack mentality that meant they fit perfectly into our lives back then as animals who were a lot like us, they thrived when loved and cared for and would protect the pack if it means giving their own lives. frankly it doesn't surprise me to hear about the moms and their children, our ancestors did the exact same thing for a reason.

How do you know he was over 70% grey wolf? So one parent was full wolf, the other half wolf?
Lemme tell you my experience with most people and their dogs.
Most people don't get their dog dna tested and most don't get pure breeds from reliable breeders with papers.
Most people just make that shit up.
Actually, most will be aware of one parent or a vet will tell them "oh this looks like its something" and then they create a fictional backstory for their dogs genetics. Hey, im guilty too, when i was a kid all i knew was my dog was half german shepherd. The rest of that shit i made up based on what people said she looked like she had in her.

my only interaction with a high content wolf dog was at a site in the woods that my friends were staying at with some other travellers, and she was one of the most captivating animals i've ever interacted with. very calm and collected and extremely inquisitive! once i got lost and she led me right back to where i needed to be. she was mostly a guard dog but never had to actually do much as she looked so intimidating, which was good because she would more likely have tried to make friends with someone than attack them. absolutely incredible animals

I once had a wolf/husky hybrid that was around 130#. He was a great boy and was 100% okay with people that were friendly to him and standoffish and aggressive to those that weren’t. He could sense when people were pretending to be friendly vs those that were truly nice. He also would sit between me and anyone visiting to make sure to protect me. He was a great pet and had so much love. He also let me know that my wife (then girlfriend) was a keeper when he crawled into her lap and gave her huge kisses. He actually chose her over me and he historically didn’t like women.

The dog park that I went to had a wolf dog named Gandalf that was the Boss of the park. The owner only admitted to a few of us what he really was, he told others he was just a mixed breed husky. He was gigantic, but you could tell by his gait what he was.
The most amazing thing was his behavior, if a skirmish broke out, he was the first one there and would actually stop the fight. Even more astounding was how measured his discipline was and how tolerant he was of the younger dogs. His very presence in the park would bring a sense of calm and order to what sometimes could be a pretty chaotic scene.

My grandmother and grandfather were rather frightened of her at first, but soon they were stealing her all the time. I'd get home to a note saying she's at their place.
She passed 2 years ago on Christmas Eve. I then got an emaciated great Dane pup with a ton of health issues. We've gotten them fixed but she's partially deaf and has ADHD. I constantly think about how my hybrid would have been a great help. I still think about getting another but my health is still iffy and I've moved from the wolf sanctuary I was with. Thank you for accepting Dakota. I used to live in Alaska, and there were a lit of the wolf dog mixes. Sadly, it rarely ended well for them. The novelty wore off, they weren’t given enough exercise, and they were unhappy, dumped, or put down. I’m so happy that wasn’t Dakotas story. 🥰🥰

I love the look of wolfdogs. Whenever I see a video about them, i catch myself thinking:'ooooh...i want one. How hard can it be?' In my mind its a 'dog' looking like a 'badass' wolf. But they are clearly so much more than that. I would never(besides: they are forbidden where I live)! I'm fine with watching these creatures being taken care of on youtube!😅

I met a man with a Timberwolf 80% Timberwolf 20% dog. He didn't look like a dog at all he looked like a real Timberwolf: Long snout, long lanky legs with giant paws on the end. The stiff fur. He was very gentle with me and walked right up to me sensing my deep interest in him. I was so honored and petted him very gently. He was the most beautiful creature I've ever seen with my eyes. Extremely big very very big. A male. The man told me that his family has been raising them for generations and his father gave him this one as the pick of the litter. He was beautiful but did not seem aggressive at all because he came right up to me, a stranger and let me gently pet him. It's an experience I will never forget.

My beloved wolf dog was retired from being a sled dog and her owner made sure that our family would provide the necessary space and exercise before handing her over. She was loving toward all humans and would react negatively toward other dogs only if they started a fight. She even put up with my husband's chihuahua who tried to have his way with her continuously. I only saw her get grumpy toward the chihuahua a couple of times, which shows much more patience than I would have in that situation. She will always have a place in my heart.

Magnificent animal. My dad, in Southern Ohio on a farm, 'inherited' a wolfdog that his neighbors kept trying to tie up and the dog would escape to dad's, so the neighbor told dad to just keep him. So he spent the rest of his days lounging in dad's living room eating hot dogs and then disappearing for days up into the mountains. Just the life he deserved.

She was the all-time sweetest mama-baby I've ever known and I've never known such a caring and sweet animal. There are lots of videos on the Internet of animals doing amazing things (like elephants which can paint flowers with their trunk and a paint brush) but I'm always worried that those videos are made with captive animals in countries where it's completely acceptable to be brutal with any animals. I'm not against killing animals for food, because that is natural, but something like the Roman Coliseum which had animals fighting for entertainment purposes, is very bad. And you can even see videos of TH-cam of animals fighting each other which don't even live in the same region. TH-cam should be banning these animal violence videos rather than videos of people who don't share TH-cam's political preferences.
