Just ordered this deck when it went live pretty excited for it. Going to start hunting down some of the upgrades I don't have. Like avacyn and serra emmacery. I have a spare smothering tithe somewhere.
I've been messing around with a really fun for me Bruna deck for a long time. It's actually become way more about the humans in the deck than the angels, and reanimating Angel of Glory's Rise from a command zone cast trigger is the main gameplan. Couldn't imagine the deck functioning properly without self-mill cards. The best card I've added to the deck recently is Palantir of Orthanc. Other good self-mill cards include Mesmeric Orb (unfortunately mills the opponent but is very efficient) and Altar of Dementia (can oftentimes transmute into a wincon in really long games where players pillow up.) Agree that Mask of Memory is good, but don't sleep on Smuggler's Copter. I do feel like Serra Ascendant is a card I wouldn't encourage players to jam into their decks. It's a high quality stompy card but it does generate a lot of feels-bad across the table. It wasn't designed with Commander in mind and I don't feel like it feels welcome at a lot of tables. On the other hand, I find that the deck needs to do some policing against combo decks and I include a few Rule of Law kinds of effects so that I don't lose to otherwise uninteractive games. This is definitely a YMMV kind of inclusion
Angel of Glorys Rise is a very strong card in the right deck and have seen some wild stuff with it over the years. Yeah Serra Ascendant is a very spiky type card. For spiky settings totally fine, for battlecruiser settings you could cut it for being too strong. Yeah I thought about including Rule of Law effects in this list as I do like them, but they can pretty skill intensive to use as when to cast them, so I didnt include them here.
Since they're including Book of Exalted Deeds, I plan to swap the plains for snow plains, and add Mutavault and Faceless Haven to make the Haven Lock a possibility.
I'll get this deck, but I am removing every single non-angel from the deck. I want it as a real tribal deck, and then hope that in the long run, they'll make a proper, Mardu angel commander, to have all the fun colors in. Beyond Kaalia that is, but that's a "Kill me" sign over your head.
Theres Tariel, but shes not great either. Can confirm on the Kaalia deck. Yeah people define tribal differently. I personally think you can have 3-4 off tribe support creatures. Usually like solemns, burnisehd harts and stoneforge mystics....they dont change the flavor of the deck too much. But too each their own.
I agree, I hate when people say “this is tribal” and then half the deck is just staples in that color or random shit like Esper sentinel. Do it. Run herald of War, enchantments and mana rocks over the filthy humans. You don’t need them
@@CommanderReplay To each their own indeed. As for a Mardu commander, I'll just be patient. Have to happen sooner or later, yeah? For the time being, a mono white deck is fine.
I like Dihada, Binder of Wills as a good Mardu Angel commander. You just have to fill it with more legendary angels than the regular ones. Obviously Dihada isn’t an Angel but I like the flavor of her binding all of them to her and using them as her indestructible, vigilance, lifelinking shields. She offers decent protection and sustain as well as ramp and legendary card draw. It kind of plays like pseudo-Voltron, but Dihada’s first minus ability allows you to snatch up the legendary angels or toss them to the bin for treasures. I took it apart because I felt like she was too strong for my play group at the time.
There is a special rule for extort. Because its in the reminder text, not the actual text it is able to be used in mono white decks. Extort is the only mechanic I am aware of that has this ruling. Please enjoy responsibly :)
Anyone have an idea how Commander's Plate interacts with Brisela if one of the halves is your commander? Is white still the colour identity even with it becoming a colourless creature? I've scoured the internet but can't find any rules or other opinions regarding this.
According to this ruling I believe its considered colorless once melded, so protection from all colors :) While a melded permanent is on the battlefield, it has only the characteristics of its combined back face. Any effects that modify how the new object enters the battlefield will consider only the combined back face.
Its absolutely insane. Usually game winning if you have a few other creatures on the battlefield. The real question is do you run Akroma in the command zone or do you go with Odric. Each has different strengths and weaknesses. Akroma's CMC does mean you gotta ramp a little, but she does add a lot of size which is helpful a lot of situations. Check out my akroma kediss keywords deck, i cant remember if i assembled the combo but the idea is definitely there.
I know it's not a budget card but what about using Avacyn, Angel of Hope as the commander? it's big, beefy and gives all permanents you control indesctructible, so helps with the protection for Brisela. Or is it just too slow as a commander?
Honestly the biggest problem is that avacyn will steer you into the play avacyn and a million board types gameplan. It’s not a playstyle that I find particularly fun. I’ve seen her as a commander, it can work but it’s just not my cup of tea.
I started making the list but didnt finish it. The rest I would just kind of figure out when it shows up. speaker of the heavens angel of vitality cosmos elixir maze mind tome Arden angel - it looks fun, just not particularly good. Karoo - just not a fan of this cycle
A few people have asked about that. havent made a full list of cuts, but heres what I would start with: speaker of the heavens angel of vitality cosmos elixir maze mind tome Arden angel - it looks fun, just not particularly good. Karoo - just not a fan of this cycle
Yeah, the deck has a lot of staples, but also has weird chaff. Also, for me at least, choosing Gisela is both weird and a flavor fail. No Lyra? Missed opportunity for a resplendent angel reprint. Nykthos Paragon is potentially very powerful but it's not an angel? So weird.
@@CommanderReplay Yeah, it's crazy powerful, but you'd hope so for the asking price. Again, it's also a missed opportunity in some ways e.g. no resplendent angel and no Lyra (Lyra is now pretty accessible tho). Archangel of tithes is a nice reprint but resplendent angel clearly better pick in terms of synergy and scarcity.
Nice guide overall but I think that gift of estates it's a bad card. With the amount of land based ramp in the deck it will frequently be a dead card and this type of deck can't really afford to get a dead drow. Archaeromancer's map or Endless horizons will exed the budget but it will be more consistent overall
Also folk hero would be great in the deck since all options for the face commander are not kill on sight except for meld and you added a lot of extra protection also sigarda's vanguard it's an overlooked angel in my opinion cheap and can present a lot of damage + a battle trick
Ive been playing it in every white deck for years...and I play a lot of white decks. On the rare occasions that it is a dead card, that means you have the most lands and means that things are probably going good anyway. And if that is the case, you just discard to it a mask of memory trigger. I do like Map as a better option but it is more expensive. Gift is cheap and a low mana play that you can make early to set yourself up for success within the game. Also IMO endless horizon is very and slow and risky, and is prone to getting shot. Much harder to interact with a one time sorcery.
I have to disagree with your assesment of this deck. Yes there are a couple decent reprints but there are only 9 "high value" (anything over 10 dollars)cars in the deck. They needed to put a Youthful Valkyrie, Herald's Horn, Lyra Dawnbringer, Resplendent angel, Herald of War(not expensive but great in angels), Possibly an Archaeomancer's Map or Land Tax for a bit of mana fixing. Also a couple protection spells like Semesters End, Eerie Interlude or even a Teferi's Protection. They could have done so much to make this a very good deck instead of an ok deck that i dont think is worth the money to actually buy this. Yes the alt arts are pretty but still not worth it.
I mean I understand that the sticker price is pretty high. I rarely buy sealed product at all, but in this case even if you total up just the cards above $10 thats still $190 of value. And I get that those cards will likely dip a little as a result of the set coming out, but with almost $100 of other stuff in the deck, it really is good value...once you get past the sticker price. More stuff would always be better, but the fact that I am actually excited enough to buy this thing should say a lot. If you like the product, buy it. If not, skip it and wait for the next one that you do like.
@@CommanderReplay Its good your excited for the deck, but only the 9 expensive cards are holding up the price of the deck. At least 1/3 of the cards need to be straight up replaced as they dont really work in an angel deck. Another few could be replaced just depending which direction you wanted to actually take the deck. And ill say it here Commanders plate while a good card does not need to be in the angel deck. It just feels like Hasbro/Wotc is putting the bare minimum for this deck.
Really dude? Angelic Arbiter and chancellor of the Annex? I tried to make a “can’t” themed angel deck once and those two under performed. Even if you’re able to dodge removal with them, paying 1 extra mana for things isn’t a big cripple, and attacking over casting spells is really easy to work around since combo players never attack, and aggro players will have good board states by seven mana. You want a good “Can’t” angel to protect, try Blinding Angel. Or better yet, keep the life gain subtheme.
The meta in which you play will matter greatly. Arbiter isnt really for the combo deck, its for the green overrun and craterhoof decks, it makes it so the aggro deck cant cast the big thing it needs to finish the game, and attack. Serra's Emissary should have been included here but I just kind of forgot about it, and is much stronger than both. Chancellors role again isnt to hard lock, but its to slow someone from 4 spells a turn down to 2. It buys you time which is needed for a mono white angels to succeed.
Yes indeed. Instant speed trumps the additional +1/+1 counters from Defy death. As mentioend the most important thing is keeping your stuff in play. Miraculous allows you to skip a round of board wipes, and is like pseudo hates for mono white.
where is luminach assencion? i can make a better deck with the cards i have the only reason to buy this is the alt art and ill get them as singles in the years end.
It has a higher sticker price, but the value contained within is quite a bit higher than the MSRP. Even just totaling up cards above $10 is still $190 of value. So i get it, high sticker price is discouraging, but as far as value within it seems like one of the better products they've released in quite a while.
So basically they printed pretty much my exact angels deck I’ve had for four years now my fairly unique deck is gonna be everywhere now kinda sucks they are kind of taking the creativity out of commander by just making every deck for people to just grab and go
They have indeed been spoonfeeding us commander cards for a while, or sets in general even. At least some of this stems from the overwhelming complexity and im sure very confused player base from Timespiral and Lorwyn Shadowmoor blocks. You look at some of those cards and say "what the hell am i supposed to do with this?" I miss the more modular design of that era, eveyrthing is super linear now.
If this deck is just like your own *unique* deck, then yours isn't very unique. Because this secret lair is pretty close to what you'd find in your average mono white angel tribal
