    Nice documentary! I jumped against Carl back in the day. The first time I saw Carl run at the Prefontaine meet in Eugene Oregon, I was a sophomore in high school. It was the first time I saw a runner run with his hands open. I immediately changed my running style to mimic his and ran like that for the rest of my track and NFL career.

      @@ashleyhyne7027 Perhaps but Carl's technique was more my style because I was a long jumper. The way he ran down the runaway position the body better to explode off the board. It's one of the reasons I changed my form.

    Lewis is unique for getting to the top of the world as both a sprinter and a long jumper and winning the LJ at age 35 with an 8.50 jump was pretty amazing. I always thought it would have been justice for him to end up with the world LJ record but it didn't quite happen. I was a long jumper from his era and I met him and spent some time talking with him recently at a track meet. He is much more humble now (as age tends to do for us former athletes) and he always has interesting insights on the sport of track and field.

    Interesting documentary. It's a shame the music is so low over the narrator voice. Would love to hear more of that.

    He was a great runner no doubt but he did a lot of peeking during some of his key races. It's not like Bolt who would look around when he was a mile ahead of everyone. It was a pleasure to watch him run in his prime though...

    Carl Lewis did NOT miss the 1993 World Championships. He picked up a bronze medal in the 200m and finished 4th in the 100m. He did not participate in the Long Jump.

    Forget 100 or 200. It is unbelievable that Lewis never was the long jump WR holder. He was simply the best long jumper ever. It was like fate literally played games with him to deny him that record. Even when he beat Beaman's record after trying for 10 years with a wind aided jump, In the very next jump a minute later Powel broke the WR officially with a bigger jump. This must be the biggest fate tease in sports history. Because Carl had totally dominated long jumping for more than a decade without anyone to compete with him. If you are a long jump coach. All you need is a bunch of footage of Carl Lewis. You can not better that technique.

    He is a unicorn within track and field. Usain is awesome but he isn't winning or even competing in the long jump 100 and 200 meters in dominating fashion Lewis did.

  • @samson9098
    @samson9098 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yes,Usain run faster than him,yes Mike still holds the long jump record,but when someone won 4 gold medals in one olympic,that someone was so special, did Mike Powell won gold in any olympic,No...but this man won 4 Olympic gold medal in 4 consecutive olympic 84,88,92 and 96,so that 4 golds beat Mike's record in any pocker game...Usain has his record and Carl has his.Both are the greatest...... and so humble too

      Besides, I think focusing on both long jump and sprinitng at that level is unbelievably hard, of he were to only focus on one he would be better at that. To me he and Usain bolt are the greatest athletes in track and field history

    "no#1 goal the Olympics... " hahaha, why then all these trip to Europe and Asia for athletics meets? For sure is was all for Olympia or maybe for the starting money that an amateur athlete as Lewis in the 80's officially can't earn...

    I thought Carl Lewis was Superman in the 80s. He turned out to be far less. Coach Tellez saying he could've beaten Ben that day is ridiculous! He never ran 9.83 seconds and we found out they were BOTH drug cheats in 1988!
