    Thanks for the bike tour of the beach area in Da Nang. I like the quietness of the beach. Let's hope it heats up soon.

    Plan to be back in DN early March, then down to My Lai Quang Ngai for the 55th memorial service. (I Attended the 50th also)

    During winter Central-Vietnam is exposed to a lot of stormy, rainy weather fronts. That is somewhat different in the North. I am living close to Hải Dương and Hải Phòng and I experience the weather here as still being quite nice. Much less rain than in summer and the day-time temperature still reaches sometimes 24° Celsius while the nights do not cool down that much (so for most Europeans still no "winter feeling"). I was living 16 years in Cyprus before I settled in Vietnam (6 months ago, so too early for a final evaluation). Although Cyprus has double the amount of sun hours per year (compared with North-Vietnam) I like the early winter weather (until now) already more than in Cyprus, where the nights get chilly and the cold crouches into the buildings. I am expecting a colder weather in January and February (as a consequence of the in autumn changing monsoon wind direction), when cold north winds from Siberia are entering China and North-Vietnam. I will report on this but generally seen, having some sort of mild weather seasons doesn't make me feel unwell.

      For me it's been a big adjustment in Da Nang compared to the heat and humidity of Saigon. It feels very 'damp' here and the unrelenting rain takes a bit of getting used to.

      I am a Turkish guy living in Da Nang as Digital Nomad, I like Da Nang too much and so happy here but if we compare Cyprus(North&South) and Da Nang, Cyprus will win.

    Glad to see you in Da Nang! Still planning to move there for early retirement. Used to watch Eli vlogs from Da Nang but towards the end, he was only doing multi hour streams and that was too much time to devote to watching so I stopped watching his vlogs.

    Excellent and insightful video. This also occurred at Patong beach 15 years before. Unfortunately the friendly environment disappeared and exploitation of the natural environment got renovated. Thanks for sharing and you are fortunate that it's fairly bicycle friendly unlike in Thailand.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of planning forethought gone into the development here, probably it's who pays the most gets the best spots in town. Da nang like a lot of Vietnam gets terrible flooding, a lot of that is to do with the fact the the drainage system needs a huge overhaul and isn't up to coping with the rapid urbanisation

    I am curious why you chose the beach area if you were tired of the crowds of HCMC. If China opens up or Vietnam loosens their visa policy you will be right back in the noise and congestion. Also, the moisture on the beach is loaded with salt from the ocean. You should consider looking at some areas west of the airport and inland a bit. Those areas used to be less expensive and quieter with a slower growth rate, but that too may have changed since I was there.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a temporary spot for now until i can reassess and chose a more suitable area. I was initially drawn to Son Tra which is a more northerly local spot but there is so much karaoke there all the time, and i'm such a bad singer, so i gave it a miss!

    Loved your very informative film.
    I will be arriving there on the 7th January and you have made me aware of the apartment situation.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome. Be prepared for some very rainy weather peppered with some nice sunny days in between, still warmer than Devon though! Hotels are plentiful here so no worries. Longer term stuff is a bit fuller right now it seems.

    Cruising around DaNang on an ebike. In my head I've been there 1,000x. Now I'm watching you doing it. Little things in life. Would like your input on ebikes: cost, 750-1,000w, throttle, gears, shocks, good seat...brand names. Speed no big deal. 20mph is fine. Power, yes. Appreciate any thoughts on the topic. Can't believe I've envisioned exactly what you're doing. Good for you. Enjoy the hell out of DaNang & may you get more ass than your bicycle seat.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It's been my dream for a while as well so thought i'd try and make it happen! In regards to ebikes you can either put a kit on a bike you love (which i did) or buy a ready made bike. If you're in the US you're spoiled for choice, Ride 1-up, Aventon etc all great brands that make nice bikes. Anything 350W and 36V and above should give you 20mph and an effortless ride. I'd go for a 500/750w motor and a 48V battery next time though as you always want a bit more. The limiting factor i think is suspension. You don't really want to be on a bicycle above 20mph or so without good suspension!

Look at those massive building along the Beach, they represent the giant of the business world . There is no future for European Backpackers in 2030.
