Finally, someone who songs in falsetto and belts! Matt gives Melchior so much dynamic! I love it. He makes me feel melchiors pain and message. I just love that he belts some of the chorus.
I saw all of the Broadway Melchiors and Matt Doyle was undoubtedly the best. He brought something to the character that all of the others (even Groff) couldn't. It was a really beautiful performance.
@xNeonBwayx I remember being super excited to see the Original Cast...and when the guys came out and JGroff wasn't in the center chair, I thought, "who the HELL is this???" by the end of the show, I was a Matt Doyle fanatic. Then getting to meet him after the show was even better. He's phenomenal!
@Kylezilla Most baritenors are trained as tenors. He has a really amazing falsetto too. His duet with Wes Taylor -- singing Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat's Lucky was sweet.
@Kylezilla Really? Well, I'd call him a baritone. That, and the role of Melchior in Spring Awakening was written for a baritone unless they transposed it all for him. I'd just say he was a baritone since his tone is warm and rich and I've heard him sing really low songs. Ever heard his cover of the I'll Cover You (Reprise) from RENT? That's pretty low in the baritone range and he sung it dead on, perfect.
@Kylezilla Yeah. I never said he was a baritone 'cause he could hit lower notes. Tenor low notes are gorgeous. I was going based on tone and comfort range and range in general. And hey, I'm not a professional, I was just going by my ear, so what do I know? Haha.
He kinda sounds like Jonathan Groff and I love Jonathan Groff voice to but Matt Doyle is Killing this song I mean that in a good way. Jonathan Groff has a rock like soft broadway voice
@Kylezilla No, no, no! Haha. I was hoping you wouldn't think I was attacking you either. I was just stating the obvious that I don't really know how to classify voices. I kind of just go by what a book tells me. :) Lol. All in all, we both have great taste, ha. :)
@fadsandgonads i dont think he's better. i think he just sounds different from Jonathan. Jonathan version is higher and more soft. I kind of like it better
Carry a 1" x 1" piece of paper in your wallet. Place the names of those who's opinions really matter to you. When unkind people leave "second rate" comparisons. Remember, they are not on your list. Put me on your list because I think you are AMAZING..! take care.

I fell in love with his voice the first time I hear the Bare cast album... so brilliant.
My god. He's so amazing
DAMN, that's a voice.
I have no words.
His voice kills me - so beautiful.

God, that cello part in the beginning breaks my heart everytime.
I'm emo. He did a great job & the cello part added so much to this as well
I’m emo
I love this kid. Really, I just love all baritone singers.
Phenomenal performance. Brought tears to my eyes.
Who would thumbs down on this?! His voice is AMAZING! I wish I could have seen him play Melchior... :(
right?! chills all over my body, and he hadn't even started singing yet!
Far and away the best of the 3 Melchiors I saw. There was a different buzz of excitement in the theater the night he subbed for Groff on B'way
his voice is absolutely amazing. ♥ i loveeee it.
matt doyle makes me swoon
Absolutely Stunning.

He needs to be on a soundtrack!!

감미로운 목소리~
i love him. oh so very much
LOL. It really is a lovely performance.
He's beautiful.
great version--this version shares the top spot with Groff.
I always wanted to see him sing this song as Melchior, I guess this will do!!

Meet perfection. :)
Gorgeous.
Ben Kalb is on cello...
@fadsandgonads agreed, esp. the falsetto part. i'm not sad:)
I laughed throughout that sentence lol

Please excuse me while I go find my ovaries

He looks like Sam Merlotte from the True Blood series in that shirt :P
He is my tie favorite melchior right next to jake epstein
Tempo could have been slower.

Hate to say it, but he sings this better than JGroff :(
I don't know why I'm sad about that, lol.
Matt is amazing but I do prefer Jonathan's voice. I think there's more emotion when Jonathan sings it.
I think JGroff sang this song better. He gave the character a life. However, in general, I like Matt better.
@ruyona he sings better, but acting... eh.
