    I can't believe the suspicious, slanderous way in which you view our beloved Great Uniter. The fact that she recruited a troop of bandits shortly before a very similar-looking group of bandits stole the food supplies is nothing but a total coincidence.
    Also her fiancee is Baatar Jr. , Suyin's oldest son, so he isn't the emo artist, or either of the twins. We only saw him very briefly during the previous Season, when he was hanging around with his dad (Baatar Sr.) and working on all their crazy invention stuff.

    Amon was not seeking revenge for his dad. In his own twisted way, after being tortured by his father, he believed that bending truly a source of many of the worlds problems.
    It just so happens that along the way it gets distorted.

    • @flamefusion8963
      @flamefusion8963 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Revenge was definitely a factor. His father abused him and he began to fall into the belief that bending itself was evil and trying to get revenge on the establishment, which was largely dominated by benders.

    • @djr3385
      @djr3385 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Flame Fusion that’s not how I see it. For revenge to be a factor a bender would have had to do something to him for him to want revenge. That is the literal definition of revenge. Amon truly believed that benders were the root of evil in the world and felt that he was responsible for getting rid of them. It sounds dark but similar to hitler

    "Constant news of an escalating war will throw the citizens of Ba Sing Se into a state of panic. Our economy would be ruined. Our peaceful way of life, our traditions would disappear. In silencing talk of conflict, Ba Sing Se remains a peaceful, orderly utopia. The last one on Earth."
    - And that's exactly what ended up happening. LONG FENG WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!

      Wolf6120 BRAINWASHING IS GREAT

    • @srccde
      @srccde 6 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      blarf mcscarf, you're right, but what Long Feng actually meant, though not directly stated, was that order and control (e.g. through brainwashing) kept the "utopia" alive.The earth queen achieved order in another, more openly cruel way but it was order. When it was gone, everything began to change, thrown into chaos essentially.
      Keep in mind that their "way of life" and traditions didn't evolve out of freedom and liberty but out of control and dictatorship.
      Long Feng was right, from his perspective. But what he understood as a way of life and as Ba Sing Se's traditions was inherently wrong, unfair and cruel. In the end, Zaheer was right to dispose of the earth queen. Yes, it left a power vacuum and threw the earth kingdom into disarray and chaos but out of it evolved freedom and democracy when Wu abolished the monarchy altogether at the end of season 4.
      "Sometimes before we can usher in the new, the old must be put to rest."

    Kuvira is voiced by Zelda Williams and was the Zaofu security guard from last season. Remember when she asked to go with the others to save Korra and the airbenders and Su told her to stay? Yeah, what she *really* meant was "No Kuvira, next season" :P
    Bryke couldn't put this in, but Asami was the one to design and make the wingsuits.
    Kai's VA is still the same VA! He just hit puberty lol.
    Korra not even acknowledging her Avatar identity already says a lot. I mean, she's usually so proud and outspoken about it. Now it feels like she's Aang, not wanting anything to do with being the Avatar.

    • @undertakenheart
      @undertakenheart 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Lalisa T Yeah, in this season Korra broke my heart. She's always so proud.

    • @lalalalisa41
      @lalalalisa41 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Mr. Al Long passed beyond trauma?? Just because 3 years passed doesn't mean she got over it already. That's not how trauma works. For a lot of people, it can stay with you forever. She was physically and psychologically tortured to the point she almost died. She ended up heavily depressed, broken, and wheelchair-bound. I don't blame her for "feeling sorry for herself" or for not even acknowledging the fact she's the Avatar when people bring it up. She's dealing with a lot. That's being human.
      Also, when Korra was first introduced to us, what was the first thing she said? She said "I'm the Avatar, and you gotta deal with it!!" IMO she never really understood the weight of those words until the S3 finale happened. Once she did, she finally broke, and now she needs to really address the issues that has always been plaguing her in order to find balance within herself again. For the entirety of the show, I think that is what Korra's story was really about. To understand what it really means to be the Avatar. With Aang, he understood what being the Avatar meant but he wasn't ready to accept that.

    • @lalalalisa41
      @lalalalisa41 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I usually don't share this with people, but since I don't really know you, I'm just going to say that I too have gone through some trauma of my own in my life. So when I said what I said, it came from my own experience. I didn't know it was like that for you as well, so I didn't mean to offend. I'm just saying that everyone handles trauma differently and how Korra handled hers was no different. Her trauma was eventually more mental and overcoming the mental aspect is always the hardest, and that's what I saw with Korra. For us two, just because we both eventually got through ours doesn't mean it'll be the same for other people. Some people completely break and never come back from it, some bounce back real quick or eventually down the line, and some just end it. What Korra went through was more than anyone her age would ever go through and it's understandable that she's still dealing with it.
      I also agree she could've accepted more help around her when it was offered, but we also have to keep in mind that for years now, since nothing's worked for her to overcome her mental block, she would naturally (and in-character might I add) want to try and figure things out on her own. She's stubborn like that and I don't know about your experience, but from mine, I understand that kind of mentality very well. The mindset of "Nobody can help me, I need to do this on my own. This is my problem and my problem alone". It took me awhile to get my head out of my ass and realize that I was being selfish in a way and hurting those around me. That there is no shame in letting others help me, even when I felt ashamed and vulnerable.
      Yes, the Korra at the start of S4 may not be the same Korra at the end of S3, but IT IS still a Korra that is struggling to deal with the aftermath of everything that Zaheer did. What she went through really affected her, and it's not easy trying to pull her life together again. In a lot of ways, I appreciated that Bryke wanted to address this side of trauma because there are different sides and experiences when it comes to people and trauma. And honestly, knowing who and the type of person Korra is, it wasn't going to be easy from the start for her and they accurately depicted that imo.

    • @lalalalisa41
      @lalalalisa41 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mr. Al I found her behavior understandable though, considering everything that has been established about her character thus far. It's not that she still decided to act this way despite how far her recovery has come. It's because a part of her is really having trouble reconciling all the horrible things that happened to her because of Zaheer (as well as the culmination of the other horrible things in the past, but it's mainly Zaheer since he's the one out of the others so far to really hurt her like this). She may have recovered to the point where she is no longer the wheelchair Korra, but it's still obviously clear that what Zaheer did still haunts her (it also brought back a lot of old fears and insecurities as well). Because of this, it holds her back from truly moving forward. To being the Avatar again, the thing that is most important to her. And when she can't move forward, she finds herself stuck and frustrated as a result. She actually tries facing it, but there's a part of her that doesn't want to face it, and this is pointed out later by ya know. This is why I don't feel she's really moved past the stage of mental trauma. If she truly did move past it, she wouldn't still be so heavily affected like this. What that tells me is that the scars leftover are still fresh. It's a huge struggle that she needs to overcome and it takes awhile (mainly because she's never been too good when it comes to handling personal issues in regards to herself), but she does eventually get there.
      I too respect your opinion, but I'm still pretty much at a disagreement with your views in this. I can understand what you're saying and where you're coming from to an extent, but I don't see it the same way. I am glad we can be civil about this though.

    • @lalalalisa41
      @lalalalisa41 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What I learned over the years and from some classes I've taken is that just because you share a common thing with someone doesn't mean it's the same thing. There is no *single* lived experience when it comes to this. What you go through is your own experience and different to that of others. You can share and even compare those experiences, but in no way are they the same. That also means how you handle it is going to be different as well.

      Talisguy for Star Wars? I mean, what else would you call it? Why else would Disney buy it for like 6 billion dollars. It's just to make money. The prequels sucked ass but at least George was genuinely trying to tell a story he felt needed to be told.

    • @mitchhamilton64
      @mitchhamilton64 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Talisguy they're better sure but I still hated rogue one. The characters were really non existent who were just there to make the audience feel sad when they died. The story doesn't fit with what we know from a new hope either. The force awakens I wasn't a huge fan of. I hated the character Rey who could do basically anything because she was a chick. I didn't like the modern humor from it either. Felt out of place with the established tone of the Star Wars universe.

      That's because Korra was raised as the Avatar in a compound and could never leave. Her whole identity revolves around being the Avatar, so you take that away and she is dead on the inside. It's why she cried last season cause she felt she wasn't needed anymore, on top of not being able to use her legs. It;s like when a prince is raised to be a king and told he is destined for great things and shoulder the country only to find out the the decides to have a senate rule or someone else and the prince kills him and takes the throne anyway, because he felt he deserved it or his right. It's actually common in many works. Look at Dr. Strange who built a career and identity around being a great surgeon had his hands severely damaged. That's also why some people speculate that after she had her bending removed from Amon in the first season that she contemplated suicide at that cliff edge.

    Actually, we see in Book 3 episode 2 a map that shows the United Republic's territory which is pretty much the entire west coast of the Earth Kingdom (which makes sense given the oldest Fire Nation colonies were established there).
    It's possible that the plane bandits were also ex-military given that everything fell apart after Zaheer assassinated the Earth Queen, since we saw the palace guard joining in with the looters
    A few of the little details I like in this episode is that we're able to see all the different ranks and types of soldiers Kuvira has in her army. In the contract, it's mentioned that Kuvira is the internationally recognized provisional leader of the EK. Also, the symbol in the ring Korra's fighting in is from Earth Rumble back from AtLA

    In the comics Zuko handed all the Fire Nation colonies back to the Earth Kingdom and calling the Fire Nation citizens back home. But as they ran into older colonies there was more resistance. The Fire Nation families had lived there for generations and didn't want to be moved to a land they didn't know, and over the centuries the Fire Nation colonists and Earth Kingdom natives had intermingled. Even though the Fire Nation were "higher class" then the Earth Kingdom, they still made friends and even married. The governor of one of the colonies had married an Earth Kingdom citizen and had a daughter who could Earthbend, but identified as a Fire Nation citizen as well as an Earth Kingdom. In the end Zuko decided to let them stay and together with Aang they turned it into what is now Republic City.

    Kuvira's forces are pretty similar to Benito Mussolini's regime, the leader of pre-WW2 Italy. Italy was scattered into various provinces where bandits ran rampant and the nation was collapsing follwing WW1. Using extremely brutal and deadly tactics, he forced unification among the disparate provinces, replacing chaos with tyrannical order.

    I think Eric's twisting Amon in his memory a bit. His motivation wasn't revenge for his father or anything like that. He truly believed that benders were a horrible force, something instilled in him by his abusive father. He went about it in a very hypocritical way, but it was an "ends justify the means" sort of thing.

    • @pimentx3253
      @pimentx3253 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this a old comment, but I don't think he is twisting his memory, his take on the character is flat-out wrong, and always has been. They say a bunch of stuff that is just incorrect, and are poor interpretations of what the story actualy is about it. And that is coming from someone who is very critical of the narrative choices Bryke and the writes made.

    They touch on a key strength of Legend of Korra in this video.
    Last Airbender was a show about a child finding his way in an unknown world. It's a story of personal growth for the select characters the show follows across all 3 seasons. The villains in LAB outside of Zuko do not really matter and don't have fully developed personalities. It could be argued that Azula has something similar to a character arc, but going from bratty arrogant little sister to deranged crazy chick is trading one thin one-note characterization for another one-note characterization.
    Legend of Korra is a story about characters with fully developed motivations and beliefs and how those characters try to inflict those beliefs on the rest of their world. Each LOK villain has a goal, a world view, and an ideological stance that they stand by even if they kept that ideology a secret from the public. Korra has her own goals and beliefs (I can save the world!), but every time she tries to act on her beliefs the villains and political figures in the world around her do everything they can to get in her way.
    Aang's journey was about introducing the audience to a fantasy world.
    Korra's journey is about standing by your principles and saying "Yes I can!" even as the world around you shouts back "No you can't!"
    The first 3 seasons are pretty much all about Korra saying "Yes I can!" and being shouted down by her critics. The first 3 to 5 episodes of this season answer the question of what happens when Korra starts to believe "Maybe I can't." and then has to build herself back up from nothing all over again.

    I wonder if Eric is ever going to rewatch LoK. We know he’s seen ATLA 3 times now, but I don’t know if has anywhere near the same enthusiasm for LoK. I mention this because he seems to be kinda misremembering Amon’s character. And that’s really strange, because I remember him gushing about it when they watched it, claiming him to be his favorite villain of the Avatar franchise because his character and motivations were so deep and layered. Hmmph. Well, at any rate, you-know-who is going to lay out all the villains’ basic motivations pretty clearly in a few episodes. I at least hope that at some point, Eric rewatches Amon’s backstory.
