    I was looking for a PVC type of plastic, safe for hydroponics. I think you answered my question and according to some other areas around the web, may go with uPVC. Thank you for the information!

    How it comes! PVC recommended to not be used for over 140 F = 60 C
    Here in Saudi Arabia as you know in summer the normal water main can reached to 60C easily... And when it gets to the water tank and circulate through the building...
    Also for the water heaters! We used PVC to carry the hot water 😬

    If you live in a city or suburb that has any rat population, or if you live in a rural area with field mice, voles, or packrats, PEX can, and will, be chewed on by any of these rodents. Most every home in my rural area that has recently been built using PEX lines is now experiencing major problems with leaks due to the recent explosion of rodents after our very wet winter and spring. I considered PEX for some remodel work until I discovered this by speaking with several of my neighbors. I will be staying with copper because of this problem. Higher cost initially, but better peace of mind in the long run.

      They can chew your electrical wires like the standard romex, so are you going to re-wire your house and run steel conduit and use metal boxes?

    If PEX didn't leech solvents for a year, I’d be all for it. Potential health issues aside, it makes water taste particularly nasty, being almost undrinkable (at least by me) for about 6 mos and just offputting for another six.

    I have a project that I need input: ABS vs PVC
    I want to build a water holding system for taking a shower on top of my small camping trailer. Most DIY videos use ABS due to its color absorbing heat, but I am concerned about warping in sunlight which is exactly the reason this black pipe is used for this project in the first place. Another concern is that ABS is stiffer and the joints may start leaking from bouncing around going down the road. Of course PVC can be painted but I am concerned with the joints coming apart from trailering vibrations. Another concern is which will hold pressure better? Most pressurize their systems to about 30 PSI. Suggestions of one over the other and why please?

    • @gtb81.
      @gtb81. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      pvc joints are somewhat cold welded when you "glue" them, therefore you will not have issues with leaks, same with abs if you join them this way, you will not have issues with the joints leaking if they are done right. a properly joined connection with this method will not come apart, even if you tried to. however pvc will soften more with heat, possibly weakining the joint, as far as i know abs is more resistant to this

    Which pvc is good for gas lines?

    • @PEXUniverse
      @PEXUniverse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PVC Pipes
      PVC - Polyvinyl Chloride - pipes may be used in pipelines buried outside a building.
      PE Pipes
      PE - Polyethylene - pipes may be used in pipelines buried outside a building.

    is there a significant difference between the type of white/blue/red pex used in household applications for potable water compared to the orange pex used for radiant floor heat?
    I'm curious to know if the cheaper, orange pex is still good for potable water.

    • @PEXUniverse
      @PEXUniverse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While Orange PEX pipe is an oxygen barrier PEX pipe used for hydronic heating applications it can still be used for portable water.
