    There is a great soundbite at the end of this footage! There were wrecks all over the place on and around I-65 & The Bluegrass Park Way in Southern and Central, KY. Traffic was back up for miles in some cases with long waits. Great video of tractor Trailer and Car wrecks all over and traffic back ups with people standing outside their cars. Police, Fire and wrecks.

    If you drive a pick up and it's only 2wd and it snows a lot in your area frequently, add weight to the bed, get proper winter tires with studs (if your state allows it) and have chains in case of really bad snow. And as a bonus have a first aid kit, extra clothes and blankets plus non-perishable food items. And perhaps consider a Jerry can with some gas.

      If someone has a 2wd pickup in an area that regulaly gets snow, they are either not too bright or can not afford to get all the other stuff they need...

      Front wheel drive cars are better than rear w d. Imo. Ive never had 4 w d nor have I ever needed chains or studs. I grew up n live in MI. This is less than our normal by far. There are driving tips everyone should learn for icy roads. Some great tips here btw. Always keep hand warmers, full tank of gas, snacks n water, phone charged, boots, coats, hats, mittens, scarves. Several blankets or below zero sleeping bags. Wool doesnt retain water. Large candles, flashlight, flares, 1 lg can of crisco with a taper candle in the center will burn 4 several days. Put it into non flammable can. Dont sit inside a running car without opening a window at least an inch.

Also, dont spin your tires, you'll only go in circles n off the road. Slow n steady is key. We actually do that for fun here in MI. Where theres no traffic, spinning circles intentionally is fun if you know how to stop. Lol we call that doing ditties.

    I have a Subaru with all-weather tires. When trucks are sliding off the interstate, I get off the interstate. Then I find a place to hole up until salt trucks have been out and about, or I take surface roads that the trucks largely avoid.

      @localcrew 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For passenger cars legal tread depth minimum is 3/32”. Trucks is 5/32”. Snow like this doesn’t happen often in Kentucky so we don’t normally have snow tires mounted and ready like in northern climes. It would still behoove one to have “M+S” rated tires -especially on the drive tires. I had a Nissan Maxima with great tires on the front and it would negotiate ice and snow effortlessly.

    Everybody on here giving their "expertise"...I'm from this area of Kentucky, and a dispatcher for police. We don't normally get this much snow, especially during the daytime peak traffic hours. And for a first snow of the season, this was way more than the 2-4 inches max we anticipated and the dusting we figured we'd get. Also, there's shortstaffing on state highway crews, so roads weren't salted or plowed as much as they should have been; to top that off, the temp dropped too low for salting to be effective so highway crews basically said F it and quit working at 1800. And in our area at least, a lot of the people that were slide offs or wrecks were not from this area, they were driving through on the interstate going too fast. Two of our troopers were rear-ended from people driving too fast for conditions and not paying attention to their surroundings.

    People, purchase a pick up with 4wd if living in a all 4 season state. Also, if not snow tires, make sure you get tires that are great in all weather conditions! If you’re paying $250 for all 4 brand new tires, they’re no good.

    • @andyharman3022
      @andyharman3022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't buy all-season tires and expect to drive in the snow. Get real snow tires. And 4wd is not as good as people think. You can accelerate better than 2wd vehicles, but can't stop or turn any better. Therefore you just get in trouble more quickly. Be humble when you're driving in winter conditions. There's an ice patch out there with your name on it.
