Please discuss plans for a 'career' mode or similar experience. Everything shown up to this point just makes it seem like a multiplayer sandbox where you grind XP for cosmetics or whatnot. Will there be a story mode? What options will there be to play by yourself in the world without other people? A theme brought up by you all time and again is making this a skate game that allows people to play how they want. Many of us want to play on our own, and progress through a curated story/career mode.
Also, I'd love to hear from the folks running the create a park systems. With modern hardware, I hope that the issues faced with past games (framerate, size limitations etc) can be addressed. I'd love to see the developers invest heavily in the create a park mode, as it will allow the community to have long term content and new terrain.

Story mode would be amazing favorite part of the old game and I know most of every skate 3.2. Or 1 player can agree .😊
Do you need story mode in real life skating?
judging from my pre alpha playtesting experience, they are solely focusing on the multiplayer with daily challenges that give out different types of xp and you get random clothing drops. (which btw since every character is genderless, you end up getting a skirt or something even if you are playing as a dude). I think you can be in a server on your own, but its just the same thing where you just freeskate around the map and you can do challenges and stuff, which really aren't that fun.

Tbh im worried this game will be soulless. Not because the developers dont have love for their project, they clearly do. However they say they are listening to the community but there’s no mention of a campaign, which was the core of the original skate games. Online mode was a feature, one that was loved nonetheless, but not the game itself. I would rather pay £30 and have a campaign and offline mode rather than have a sandbox online live service game that closes down after people lose interest in the repetitive loop of grinding for clothes. I really hope you guys prove me wrong and i really hope you read this.

They’ve stated in earlier videos that there building out from gameplay/ character customisation since it’s only in pre-pre alpha still I’m sure it will get a lot better it’s just a matter of time I guess

As a life long skate 1, 2 and 3 enjoyer, I really, REALLY hope to be able to play Skate offline, not tied to an always-online system!!!
This game is for ipad kids, not skaters. It's gonna be so bad.
Please, for the love of god, make this game availabe in offline. So even without internet I can still at least hop on, skate around, unlock new items, do challenges and later when I do have internet it just syncs up all the progress I made offline into the new online mode, and at least when the servers inevitably shut down, we can all still play it by ourselves and make progress.

This game is going to be a live service micro-transaction hell. Take me back to the good ole days of Skate 3 when everything wearable was unlockable in game.

@frostycs2 most definitely will! But what the problem will be is they'll make it where it costs a lot of in game money vs like less bought currency. Also will definitely have items clothing, decks, etc. That will HAVE to be bought. How R6 does it, is you can buy a weapon skin for "Reknown" that will cost maybe 30k "Reknown" but only cost my 68 to 100 of the paid currency "R6 credits" then you have the cool "Elite" Skins where you have to buy with the R6 credits

This looks extremely unimpressive and disappointing. I dont even know where to start. But the fact the characters are genderless is unbeliavable to me. Obviously skateboarding might not be the same as it was in the 70s,80s,90s,2000s but this right here really has nothing to do with the skate franchise except for the controls. You point out that you are excited about the artistic deck graphics and the fact you can be 6'4. That is very much unimporant. Nothing anyone wants to know and I am pretty tall myself.
I really cant believe my eyes, it looks all horrible. This is coming from a regular 32 yo male growing up with skateboarding games. I am not even chauvinistic, it just looks so bad, you focus on the wrong things for way too long. Just make it an option to be 'genderless' for the people that might be and move on. Oh my god.

My #1 question in regards to character design is - Why are the majority of the pants cuffed? It is not 2014. Where are the baggier pants? Why aren’t the straight fit non-cuffed pants more commonly showcased?

So many players might kill me for this, but I’ve always thought that it would be cool to add some element of realism to the board’s use. What I mean by that is that things like board slides, nose and tail slides, etc. scratch up the board - like it does in real life. Bearings get worn out, wheels get worn down and need to be replaced, and boards snap on major impact. It’s like a car taking gradual damage throughout the race in racing games. You don’t typically just brush up against a car or a wall and suddenly your car’s undrivable. There’s progression there until it reaches the point of being undriveable and then you fail the race. If your goal is to push merchandising and customization in this game, you really should make it so that players have to visit the stores to replace their setup periodically or when they snap their board, and they can purchase things like better bearings, lighter trucks, impact dampeners, new, better quality boards and different types of wheels based on how much money they’ve earned. I know we earned sponsorship money in the first game, but there was really no real incentive or requirement to use that money, it was merely just there if you wanted to use it.
Of course, there would be a barebones generic setup available at the stores in case you snap your board and have no money, but it’d just be cool to see that element of realism added.

Will there be a single player story mode?
would love to see a good diverse selection of clothing, both extremely baggy pants but also more standard or even slim pants and as far as shirts i would love to see dynamic layering options like for example if there’s a cool t-shirt you could layer a different colored long sleeve under the shirt rather than just putting the same graphic on the long sleeve option and calling it a day, also like wearing a hoodie/ jacket/ flannel unzipped/ open but still being able to wear a graphic t-shirt of choice under it, just lots of ways to customize our wardrobe on a realistic level :)

It's been almost 14 years since the last release. As a huge skate fan, I'm getting extremely uninterested. We begged EA for years and this is what we get? This game better be the GTA 5 of skateboarding.
Notice how over time the actual skaters involved have either stepped away or stopped posting about it completely. The final game is gonna be something that could have just been a fortnite dlc
7:42 Please dont make the game look like this, this skeleton dude looks like he's wearing pyjamas.. I have no problem with bodysuits and masks etc, but in a fashion sense, this looks pretty crappy and cheap.. Sleeves and overall the sweater too short, pants as well, also pants have a weird shape.. Skeleton mask also looks too clunky, give it some nice shape, maybe not covering the whole head like a helmet, but more like a mask.. I hope you get what I'm trying to say. Just hoping the game will look highly fashionable and not so childish. I have hopes though, the decks ( 5:20 ) looked pretty amazing and Yolanda's character also has potential. Also I'm aware the game is in an early state, so hopefully the bad looking outfits rn won't make it into the final game (:

@@jim_carryI have no problem that there will be a real money shop, that's the case in most of the f2p games nowadays. So idc if the Fortnite kids spend their parents money there. I just hope the outfits will look nice and rn everything is in a really early stage, so for me it's hard to tell what the finished product will be/look like. I don't think outfits will have to look like that for kids to buy them, they can still look more stylish..
i dont think much detail has been added as you can see with everything its pre pre alpha alpha or whatever, nothing has extreme detail. so my guess is those sort of details, clothes moving, fabric, texture, fitting, styling, all that stuff will probably look better on release. just like how the world looks so bland but obviously it's not finished and detailed.
i mean skate 3 was very similar people have all sort of black box glitches to have crazy characters or you see people dressing their characters fashionably and more traditionally. I like that they’re just throwing all this stuff out to customise however you want, even though i know i will be having a more traditional skater. I do fear that any cool clothes will be put behind a paywall however :(

8 months between contact. Every person I know gave up, they have a negative mindset on it now which means the game will need to be groundbreaking to change the opinion and there hasn't been a groundbreaking game design since PUBG.
A couple things. We *need* the ability to play the game fully offline. Also, the current art direction is a bit too cartoony. Its sad that it has to be a live service game regardless though. I'm willing to bet that not a single person is happy about it, and its highly likely that EA is forcing that decision.
I was pretty devo now after reading the comments more it’s going live service. I wasn’t naive to think it wouldn’t be more online but all online experience in a day where all games seem online, for a skate game is a little annoying.
I’d rather pay twice the price of $100 for story mode and dlcs (a bit like previous iterations that were successful) than pay nothing forever and have buyable cosmetics or packs that get new zones etc. Unfortunately it’s been proven they make much more off this model and for big companies share holders that is the target not the game itself with how good it is.

What? I think it was a good decision. We have been able to give so much input and feedback because they chose to keep it public and have the community involved. If they just never showed it off and never let people play test, we probably would have a bad game at launch but they really seem to care what the community thinks about the game which is a nice change for once.

In the most respectful and constructive way possible: we asked for skate 4. We did not want you to take years to epitomize the skateboarding videogame. It’s taking way too long because you bit off way more than you could chew, and the fanbase would have been satisfied with a modern rendition of the formula that made the brand successful in the first place. It’s not too late to come up with a story and make it what it should have been. Sorry for being so blunt, but it is plain as day.

Is it possible for us to have a single player mode? I've gone through a few comments, and I completely agree, there definitely should be a single player, it would be a good shout to have, rather than only multiplayer, but so far, all the customization I'm hoping it's not all microtransactions, ye, have a few, but not every single possible customization.
And I'm hyped for this, I loved every second of it.

It's cool you guys are putting focus on the customization part of things, specially for a more wide and accessible title this time around with it being free-to-play and live service, but it would be nice if you shed a light on us with regards to how grindy the progression for us to get said customization items will turn out to be. We don't want to spend hours and hours doing events just to get one pair of "Vans" shoes, or half of a "Girl Yeah Right!-themed" board. Also, I feel it's not good to brag about your game having "the option to spend money *only if you want to*", which can be seen as a problem if the microtransaction prices turn out to be ludicrously expensive while giving very little.
I know some many have discussed this already but these board room episodes are really toning down any hype this game that was left. We all see where this is going which is fine but this feels like its intentionally designed to string folk along with the years of needing a skate 4
Hear ya. These board meetings are just filler to keep us strung along for something that may actually flop or never be released. We're definitely getting the runaround.
Can you please focus on the actual idea of the game? skateboarding. who cares about all of that extra stuff, just make a "better" skate 2 / 3 with new content / new story and that's it. Maybe push your online mode for in-game real money purchases, but please think about the players that don't want none of this and those who would much rather have a game based on the old ones.
Last skate game released 14 years ago, they started this game 4 years ago, and by the looks of it we probably have another 5 years until it releases.

This is so conflicting. I really appreciate that yall are making the game free to play, and giving people the ability to get all of the gameplay for free.
A huge portion of me wishes that the game was just $60, and I can get or unlock everything. This does probably mean fewer players, and less money for you guys and EA, but, it comprises what SKATE is to the OG fans, the people that have supported the franchise from day one.
Conflicting. I’m going to feel sad if I have to pay any significant amount of money for anything BESIDES cosmetics in this game. I can play a default skater, as long as I get all of the gameplay for free. In my heart, I’d rather pay $60 for the whole thing tho.

@@E-Bizzy I don't see a ton of baggy pants at the skatepark... seems to me these days there's not one specific style that makes you an "actual skater".
@kida026 not sure what skateparks you're going to, but all you gotta do is watch pro video parts from the last like 4 years, and you'll see it is a very common style. Obviously, you can be a skater and wear whatever you want, but there is a trend of baggy pants currently.
Remember to only buy something if it's worth the purchase at the moment. Never buy something on the promise of "just trust me bro, it'll get better in the next update/expansion." More often than not the improvements happen far too late to keep up with competition. That is if the improvements even happen before the product gets shelved. I know this is just pre-alpha footage, but their talk of "launch is just the beginning" gets me nervous.
I really want the Skate series to have a good comeback, but if it's going to be completely directionless then I'm not sure it'll have the personality to keep my attention. If there isn't a full single-player offline-mode campaign at launch then I'm not buying. I didn't play the other skate games online often and I won't be forced to stay in online sessions just to have a silly time flipping a board. Honestly, I don't even feel like playing with other people is even that much of a improvement to the Skate experience to me. I spent hours of my life engaging in the unique and inventive world/level design and getting into a flow state by focusing on my lines. NPCs that could dynamically use obstacles near me, but stay at a distance where they aren't distracting feels like a better idea than just trusting random people won't get in the way.
Something I liked was in this game from the people at Ubisoft Annecy called Steep. In it, whenever you did a challenge it'd have phantom players with the bronze, silver, gold and online high score records do the challenge with you. This way, you could learn the lines, see shortcuts and feel a sense of competitiveness all while not having to directly engage with another person or relying on a consistent internet connection. In my honest opinion, Steep did so much right with it's gameplay and quest designs. Steep's successor Riders Republic felt too bland. Really felt like it was trying to be like a Fortnite for extreme sports. Again, that game was directionless and relied on players to basically make the content themselves. Their big pull was the massive amounts of crowds that COULD accumulate in events, but when the game only pulls a peak of 2-4k concurrent players on new season and DLC drop the world ends up feeling dead and empty.
If a game can make the individual feel that the world they're playing in is alive without the requirement of online play, then I believe there'll be a stronger sense of engagement and longevity to the lifetime of the game itself.

4:55 Personally I don't want anyone on the dev team that chooses color griptape and color trucks. It's the little things like this that re-assures me that this game is going to be a spit in the face to the skaters that love 1, 2 and 3.

What we would like is confirmation that this will be a game that we can legitimately own without you having the ability to take it away from us.
Personally can't stand playing a game when I constantly feel like it's trying to get me to spend money. I play games to get away from spending and earning and things. All this talk about how looking how you want is important for expressing yourself etc, when we know it's a free to play and will be monetized selling clothes, skins, etc, it seems really contradictive of what's being said in this video. All I get from it is "you deserve to express yourself, if you pay". Unlockables are all well and good, and a good sense of achievement, but we know the tactics, the really unique unlocks will be cash only.
I know games need to earn money, but I am so over this argument that it's okay to charge for cosmetics because you can still do everything else in the game.
"Battlepass" mechanisms and FOMO weekly challenges are also terrible for a lot of people. Tried the battlepass route and it ended up burning me out trying to finish them. I wanted to finish because I would effectively lose the items that I paid for and didn't get chance to unlock. After the grind for finishing one, I am done with the game.
It is so hard to care about a "live service" game in 2024. The amount that just go under making them literally unplayable even offline is massive. I still play Skate 2 and 3. I very much doubt I will still even be able to play a live service game in 10 years. That is another reason I am having a hard time caring about a F2P skate game.
Ok give us ONE big piece of news. Career mode? Name the pro skaters working on it? Release date? Something. JUST ONE WILL DO

What we’re missing is clear messaging about the game. We can expect as lifelong skate fans. Especially those who like a more realistic hard-core experience like we had in skate three in the amazing parks and style of skate 2.
It’s going to be live service and it’s EA so we know consistent revenue is important. But what we’ve been shown is customization, which is great.
But we’ve also mostly seen vertical gameplay, larger than life jumps, and tricks, which is fine, But how is this game? Going to serve those who get more grounded and gravity based approach? will we get hard-core mode?
Will there be a story? will there be single player private lobbies?
Personal expression is great, but we can’t lose that first word, Personal.
Will you be able to create your own parks? Will we be able to create our own graphics like we used to? Will we clans/teams. Well the game reflect how skating has changed with really cool finesse street like Andy Anderson, takes a lot of inspiration from Rodney Mullens, and Florida skate culture?
The last thing I wanna do in a skate game is forced into a lobby with a bunch of wacky creations, With a plot of skaters, I don’t want to play with.
I will remain hopeful and optimistic, but I could really use some reassurance from the team on these things .
We need concrete info around monetisation and a satire bit about the teleprompter in the next episode.
Monetisation info is probably too early as they're still pre-alpha so don't have the full scope of content to figure out how to monetise it. It'll probably be some variation of premium currency but nothing is known.

Would be so good to be able to change board, truck and wheel sizes. I’m a big fan of big board small wheel setups and to be able to have that option in the game would be amazing. Having the option to build a skateboard to suit your style whether that is street skating, bowl skating or all round would make the game feel a lot more realistic for everyone, who agrees with me?

Just work on the landing a bit more. Some of them look stiff. Make some landings look sketchy too, not all landings are perfect

Question regarding @5:55, are we able to scale the stickers placed on the board? Is there going to be a limit to the amount of layers we will have to customize this, and are we able to add stickers to the grip tape as well?

no, you have 3 slots to add 1 sticker on it. not customizable
This board room has got me so hyped! Love the level of customisation you can do on your skateboard, COLOURED GRIPTAPE!! YESS!!! And all the new gameplay footage looks so good! That Church/cathedral location looks awesome too, cannot wait to fly through that window 🤜🏻🤛🏻

If you own a Series X, Skate 3 is backwards compatible on it. It runs at 4k 60fps, and it's superb.
Real skaters are not going to like this game.

story mode idea. Get job, deliver pizzas on board or other odd ball jobs. Enter contests, get money. Buy apartment in map, decorate apartment eventually buy house, buy mansion & build your own park in your backyard etc. Watch your replay on tv in "your room", create your own teams in game.

I know this probably wont be the case because microtransactions, but I would love if they added an image uploader similar to the WWE 2K games, or even something similar to skate.Create from Skate 3 but with more shapes and customization in general. I'd love to be able to design my own boards or logos for clothing or even stickers
Also wanted to throw out there what many others have said in regard to offline play and a career mode. Its very worrisome they haven't addressed this yet
Adding staple brands and classics of skateboarding into the game makes me happy to see as a 90's kid. I hope to see lots of stuff for your older fans throughout the game.
Flip, Volcom, Blind, Hawk, New World Industries, Toy Machine, Fallen, Circa and RDS are just a few of the brands that come to mind. Hopefully some classic hits from back then on the soundtrack too.
This game being F2P makes me believe this will just be a live service MP game. I would hope there’s some sort of career mode. The thought of the game just being online or whatever seems repetitive and could get boring quick hopefully it’s more than that. Skate 3 is a perfect example to follow up on
did you even watch the video? they literally say its a live service game. there will be a store, to buy clothes, with money. this is what will keep the game going in the long run...

so i dont understand what you mean by "get boring quick" i played all 3 skates for thousands of hours, it was never once for the storyline.. it was to skate. do you not enjoy skating? it feels like some of you dont :/??? there are a lot of tony hawk games with fun storymodes if thats what you want mixed in with skating specifically.
@@ralphwiggum3463 that’s almost my point, if there’s no story mode sort of thing in a F2P live service game then it can get boring quick if all you can do is skate around with randoms online. I played all of the skate games and Tony hawks as well.
I do agree with you. Previous Skate games where also fun because of all the crashing tasks, and doing things to get rep to getting a better and better spot in Trasher/Skate Magazine, with the ultimate goal getting on the front-cover. If that is gone, wonder how long the game keeps big, as all just random skate around without a goal have already 2 games to play.
I really hope you guys change the way you lock into grinds because you would never lock into 5050s in the middle of your trucks, same for crooked grinds. It would look more natural to lock in right up against the wheels like you would in real life. Keep up the good work!
This contact with the player and developer is very noble! Feedbacks are a key to success! I think that content and fun is the most important thing in the game, the more options and equipment you have the better, but EA has to take it easy on microtransactions.
seeing the early footage makes me wanna play this game so bad. can't wait till its released.
should see if Tony Hawk would be interested in doing a cameo role even if it's not as himself, considering Activision isn't doing anything with his series currently... it'd be a dope way to bridge the gap between the only 2 successful franchises in modern skateboarding video games.

Feel like there needs to be less focus on the characters… gameplay, textures, graphics, and environments are key. Also game modes that involve spectating other players like spot battle are so fun and make for great memories

my feedback would be i'm interested it stuff around movement, like character gait.
in other skate games you have stances that would change the players movement responses. i'm someone who really likes a lazy, effortless kind of style, which in the other games i believed was called "loose" the way the arms move when you land a trick. the footwork when coming out n off a grind. those little details are something i'd like to have the option to pick. some like more aggresive kickflips, i like smooth loose ones for example, ya know?
also clothing movement? like if a character has a baggy shirt, will we see movement in the wind?
skateboarding is about expression and creativity, allowing more of it is better for everyone! and i'm loving what im seeing so far. thank you team!

biggest thing we need in skate 4 is better NPC, Cars, background stuff in general make the aspect of the areas your skating in feel real (and beefs like in skate 3 when you’d bump into some people they would get angry and chase you)
