  • Tommy Vann and the Echoes were the premier band in Baltimore Maryland in an era that saw hundreds of bands in the area at that time. The group formed in 1961, and was fronted by Tommy, who had an incredible vocal range from low tenor to falsetto. The rest of the group were a talented set of musicians, who could all sing. This gave the group an amazing mix of vocal harmonies. Their remake of an old Nat King Cole song, Too Young, was uptempo, and had a strong driving beat/ It sold an amazing 600,000 copies in an era of Beatles, Motown, and Beach Boys. The group split in 1967, while at the peak of their popularity. It was not an amicable breakup, and was not resolved until 2011, when they, realizing the uniqueness that they had, reunited for two 50th anniversary shows. It was a healing for the whole band, and left all the band members as friends once more. Tommy Vann passed away on January 20th, 2022. His legacy and legend will live on in Baltimore musical history will last for ages. Just two months later, lead guitar player Walt Anderson, followed Tommy into that Rock and Roll Heaven. Four members of the original Tommy Vann and the Echoes are still alive as of this writing...August 2022.
