Remember when at the end of Season 2, Clarke was about to pull the lever and Bellamy put his hand on hers, so she didn't have to bear the guilt alone?
No one in the bunker pulled the metaphorical lever with Octavia. Even the people who were supposed to care for her the most (Indra, Kane, Abby) let her bear the responsibility of keeping them all alive, they lived off of it but were not willing to share the guilt: Abby succumbed to her choices in the Dark Year; Kane chose to hold on to his moral high ground at the expense of everyone else, but mostly Octavia; Indra went from leader and role model to passive royal guard, when SHE said herself she loves Octavia as a daughter, but still, year after year and choice after choice, they let Octavia sink in and put the blame on her when she struggled to crawl back.
As of Clarke, I absolutely understand the point of who says that her choice of essentially letting everyone die so that Madi could survive isn't logical. But love isn't logical. We as viewers have a different perception, but in the show, the first 4 seasons took place in roughly 6 months from the moment they landed on the ground to Praimfiya. 6 months, 3 of which Clarke spent in the woods alone trying to pick up the pieces after Mounth Weather. And then with Madi, they lived together for 6 YEARS in which they helped each other survive and most of all LIVE, which is something Clarke never got to do. With Sky people, Clarke formed a bond of survival: you put a bunch of kids in a hostile situation and they only have each other, they are bound to form a strong connection, but with Madi, she had the time to form a bond she never truly had with the others, made of want and not necessity. That's why I think her choices in this season are not just understandable, but somewhat justifiable.

Clarke had a an especially poignant line this season to Maddie. "Now you're my people." Everyone else didn't matter. It’s been 6 years. Maddie got her through most of that. I think Clarke has been consistent in that she'll do anything for “her people” since Mt. Weather. It’s just when that’s one person it’s incredibly dangerous and probably unhealthy.

The whole crew went to space without Clarke at the end of season 4. She was the only person left here to die, like can you even imagine how that feels like? She was stranded and tired of the life she was living and she was even gonna end it when she found the valley. That was some hope and then she found Maddie. Just imagine on an entire planet where you thought you'll have to live for years all alone you just found someone to share. And she groomed and nurtured Maddie like her daughter for 6 years and then suddenly one day Bellamy shows up and puts the flame inside Maddie's head and wants her to be the commander of an army of savages against people who have missiles and weaponry and shit. Would a mother let that happen to her only child? She was with Bellamy and the others for a year, she was with Maddie for 6. And people are like Clarke betrayed her people. Fucking Maddie comes before anyone else and she has every right to. And none of these reactors or people ever understand that.

Suraj is right, the algae plan would never have worked. McCreary has missiles, they can't defend against that at all. The failure of this attack, and the subsequent massacre, is squarely on the shoulders of Octavia, Kane, and Diyoza. But it's mostly Kane and Octavia.
One of the motifs of this season is the phrase "Two snakes, one garden. Eden never stood a chance". A lot of the debate about this season was who the two snakes are. I personally believe that the two snakes are Kane and Octavia, because it is ultimately their conflict which started in the Dark Year that caused this current situation. I think it's also really telling that they took two different paths through this. Kane continues to pass the buck, to not look at his own guilt for what he caused Octavia to become, and it has seemingly cost him his life. Octavia, in a similar situation, accepts her own share of the blame for what happened and at least tries to redeem herself. This is most shown by the comparison of the Kane/Abby/Vinson scenes and Octavia/Bellamy/Indra/Gaia scene.
In Kane's death scene, Vinson says something that is really telling of where Kane's mind is right now. He says, "If only our conscience was more than a little voice we pretend to listen to between unspeakable acts" (surprised this wasn't in the edit given it's importance to Kane's character). Kane's whole entire life up to this point on the show has been him trying to assuage his guilty conscience. His mantra has always "each day we do a little better than the day before", and well we saw where that got Bellamy in season 4 (it led to some really poor decision making). Another part of the scenes in the gas station that really shows where Kane is at mentally is that he and Abby have switched places. Back in season 4 he told her "First we survive, then we get out humanity back", but here she is saying it to him and he patently rejects it. He is so wrapped up in his own guilty conscience that he doesn't make any effort to place blame where it belongs, and not just put it all on Octavia so he can feel better. He also seems to be in complete and utter denial in regards to the fact that he is literally dooming all of Wonkru because of a spat with Octavia. McCreary should have chained him up and made him listen to all of them die.
Conversely, in the scenes in the gorge, we see Octavia go begin to actually work through her own guilt and culpability and finally arrive at the conclusion that she is one the main reasons for the situation they are in. And it nearly breaks her. It is clear that she care deeply about the safety of Wonkru, and she chooses to accept responsibility for what happened during the attack. That said she does still run from guilt, but not by placing blame on someone else, rather by seeking absolution through heroic sacrifice. I love that the writers did this this episode, and I love that they didn't let Octavia die. She's much more interesting having to live through it.
Now for Clarke. The shock collar was not a good thing, and it sent a lot of the fandom into a rage. Understandable, as Clarke really did lose sight of what matters. You have to remember who her mother is, not exactly the best role model for being a mom. That said, as awful as what she did was, it was born out of love. It is clear that she is not happy about what she chose to do, but she is desperate and believes that Madi and her mother are the only two people left alive who actually care about her. Bellamy betrayed her when he put the flame in Madi. Madi's very existence as a commander is a threat to Octavia so she can't trust her. Diyoza has tried to kill her at every turn, and yet Diyoza is the only realistic option for ensuring her daughter's safety. She is literally flying by the seat of her pants, and it leads to some awful things. She truly believed Bellamy to be dead, after all she did leave him to the fighting pits after he betrayed her and drew the ire of his sister whom she believed to be the biggest threat. A lot of people really hate that scene with Echo, but I find it very insightful for those who don't really understand why Clarke did what she did. Everyone she has ever loved has either died, been hurt, or betrayed her. She doesn't want that for Madi, and Madi is ultimately what kept her sane for those 6 years in the valley. That created a very unhealthy dependence, so much so that Clarke likely would not be able to function without Madi by her side.
Lastly Vinson, I can finally go into full detail. Like I said last week, he is the personification of the Dark Year. Or better yet, he is Kane's guilt and Abby's addiction made flesh. He feels fulfilled when he feels needed, much like Abby's addiction. And much like an addiction, when she finally kicks him out and runs to Kane, he does everything he can to get back in her good graces. As for his relation to Kane, he is both the personification of Kane's guilt and the manifestation of his conscience that is torturing him for the things he has done or allowed to happen. I find it amazing that his whole character is this massive metaphor for all of Abby and Kane's struggles this season, and I find it even amazing that as the manifestation of Kane's conscience, he is what ultimately kills Kane. Just amazing writing.
I believe that this season is ultimately about addiction, for some characters literally and for others metaphorically. Abby was literally addicted to pills. Kane to the moral high ground. Octavia to the safety of power. Clarke to Madi. Even Bellamy was addicted to the image of his little sister to the extent that he was incapable of seeing her as a different person. Addiction takes many forms and it makes us all do irrational, horrible, and unspeakable things. It made Abby torture Raven. It made Kane betray everyone he cares about so that he can pin the blame on someone else. It pushed Octavia into the protective shell of Blodreina where she did not have to think about the horrible she is doing on a daily basis. It pushed Clarke to do awful things to the person she loves the most in this world in the name of keeping her safe. And it stopped from sympathizing with his sister and helping her overcome her demons.

I mean Kane defected, it was to expect to go against Octavia, Octavia knew that, she told to Indra, if they lose it will be Kane, but she disregarded that before or after she took away opptions and the way out, and that's what "you" NEVER DO, but problem is that McCreary took over, instead of Diyoza, and that's on Murphy team, they should realize that Kane with Diyoza REALLY MEAN SOMETHING, but as we saw: Murphy likes to play hero actually..

Clarke and Kane were the main causes of the massacre imo. Wouldnt have happened if they didnt betray octavia and wonkru.
@@hdhdhedhdh986 and don't forget Murphy: he LIFTED McCreary to a possition 😂😂 and then Clarke LIFTED Octavia instead of letting Madi to lead Wonkru, and then she informed McCreary about the eye, and then Kane kept his course: against Octavia with no flip floping, atleast he's consistent.
Whenever Lexa is brought up, for any reason, Suraj always takes the time to bring up Clexa shippers and say the writers only mentioned her for them. Like how he said the shippers "really cultivated this point" in this episode, even though it made sense to include it, to talk Clarke into caring again. He can't seem to accept that they may have mentioned Lexa based on her own merits, and not just for fanservice. He says some nice things about her but can't admit that she may still be relevant to Clarke even after she's dead. Is it because he's a Bellarke shipper? It's not like she's mentioned every episode, its only been a few times. I don't think I've never seen him making these vaguely passive aggressive remarks about shippers in any other show.

Does he ever stop to think that maybe the only reason they ever mention bellarke or include bellarke moments that fans blow out of proportion is because they don’t want to lose certain fans who are only there for ships? Lol. Lexa was her soulmate and this show is very big in parallels. To add in comments such as the one at 16:47 or in one video where he mentioned they only put certain scenes in for Clexa shippers was so dumb, to imply it was merely fan service is completely biased and wrong. Bellamy and Clarke never even kissed but for some people they are meant to be and real despite Clarke and Lexa literally saying they love you to each other and having sex LMAO.

I truly thought Octavia was going to die in the ending of this episode, and I would have been OK with that, because her death truly mirrored her metaphorical death (Lincoln’s death, when Lincoln died, a large part of her died). In Lincoln’s death he fell to his knees( so did Octavia), Lincoln also died for his people, in a way, if Octavia died then, she also would have died for her people(Wonkru). I think it would have been a fitting end to her character and it would be full circle and it would also inject a bit of realism into a sci-fy show that not everybody is fully redeemable, but in away In death Octavia partially redeemed herself, by sacrificing herself and saving her people.
When Clarke were doing this kinda stuff to save her friends they loved her, when she do this hard choices to save her daughter in place of them they start hating her like???? the truth is that everybody wants to be Clarke priority, but she did great trying to save Eden, Madi and humanity in general when uer friends were doing stupid things because of Octavia, like, Bellamy forced Madi to accept the flame even knowing she didn't want it, Clarke didn't wanted it, he betrayed her because he don't wanted kill his sister, but put Clarke's daughter in risk he could, super selfish too, everybody trying to protect Octavia and her people but they couldn't understand Clarke doing the same for Madi, she didn't want a war, they should surrender, but Octavia was in a crazy moment, poor Clarke, always taking the blame for all

Maddie has more than just the ability to get wonkrew to march. She has the minds and guidance of all of the commanders that Octavia doesn't have.
Yeah, so I guess the commander is never really leading alone. She has the support and knowledge of those past who were in her same position. Octavia didn’t have anyone who had to do what she did.

I dont agree with all of Octavias decisions. But you need to keep in mind she lived her WHOLE LIFE in fear on the Ark and was directly exposed to violence. We she was first in charge of the buncker she was just 17! She always asked for another option and was always told there wasn't one. And those very people are the ones calling het a monster. She was doing was she was told by her peers like indra at such a young age and all of that stuck with her. I dont agree that she should be a leader, because shes not made for that. But she was told she had to, and she was told MAKE THEM FOLLOW YOU AND MAKE THEM LISTEN. She did this by herself. Clark,Bellam,kane,abby,jaha and lexa all had someone by their side. She was trained to fight not to lead. Everyone hates her bu forgets that she hates herself. But she did have to do what she did. Everyone would have died without her. And she was told by many people to make them follow her. People dont realize she doesnt make decisions by herself, she asks other people, she asks for another option. I am not saying what she has done was always the right or humane thing. She has lived always with fear and danger. Everyone she has loved has left her. Her mom, Lincoln, Jasper, illian, Atom and now Bellamy is abandoning her aswell as Indra. She was literally raised to survive, not to LIVE. Everyone sees her with their own bias, aswell as myself. Im just trying to show another point of view. Everyone loves to justify clark or Bellamy because they are relatable, Octavia isnt because no one has gone through the trama she has had to face all her life. Please keep in mind when she was in the buncker she was 17 and got out of the one room she had even lived in at about 16. Lol i know this was SUPER long but i also wanted to say i love watching your reactions to the hundred and love that you try to talk about everything together:)

Every character is selfish this season except Monty, and their decisions are incredibly stupid this season.
I feel like, they are all doing what they think it's right. It's kind of a 50/50 between all of em. I understand all their perspectivea
Monty hasn't thought this out enough either though. They could've just nuked them if they saw they're cultivating the land & becoming a future threat for them, and there's nothing they could've done to stop that.

Okay, Kane cmon you're killing all the grounders and SKAIKRU (your freakin people) just because your feud with Octavia, you rather side with LITERAL mass killers and the worse convicts in Earth modern times than a child who had severe mental issues from her past (being isolated for 16 years, and among all what happened in S1-4 (total of 4 months), AND 6 years forced to taking leadership in the bunker at the age of what? 16-23? You're a freakin adult here. She may be a murderer too, but under war and to survive. Eligiuis IV are modern day criminals, and yes Diyoza sympathetic but the others especially on McCreary's side are hoodlems! I doubt he would have made the same decision if Abby was with Wonkru. And he really believed in a murdering psychopath's promise that Wonkru will be able to surrender? it's a joke. Kane was like a father figure for O, it's just annoying that he doesn't take any of the blame and believes he's better than her. She's a child! Who's undergone so much in so little time.

Bellamy let people die in the culling by destroying the trackers, He knew the Trikru blockade wouldn't attack as long as Lexa was in charge and in love with Clarke yet supported Pike in the massacre.He also didn't trust Octavia-the leader of the rest of humanity(like it or not) with the details of her "leverage" on Dioza. Blodreina would have had snipers watching the prisoners so kidnapping abby wouldn't have worked. In making ammends it wasn't his call to make,saving the Farm station prisoners when the plan was to save hundreds with the water generator. Bellamy spent six years healing, maturing and cooperating with friends and aquiring a ride or die girlfriend. Alls forgiven and he's Belldog.
Clarke disrespected all grounders by trying to become a commander, then tried to steal the bunker killing all grounders by defalt. Clarke spent 5 plus years in peace ,quiet and plenty of food wth the opportunity to heal by caring for madi .Clarke never asked how Octavia came to unify Wonkru. Brutality alone wouldn't account for the order and discipline we saw in eps.4, 5, and 6. It was Clarke and Bellamy's schemes gone wrong that left putting the flame in Madi as the only choice. Her season 5 behavior is ALL excused as her being a Mama Bear.
Octavia spent her first 15 or16 years isolated and hiding under the floors on The Ark. Upon reaching the Earth was the first to integrate with the grounders joined Trikru and took a Trikru mate. Seasons 1-4 take less than 2 years in real time. Octavia won the Conclave, and became Osleya Kom Wonkru(Champion of Wonkru)at 17 and put down the Skaikru rebellion during the 2nd month in the bunker. "Red Queen" 5X2. She ended the Clan conflicts and led by giving the people HER people what they needed and were used to ,...strong leadership and harsh evenly applied justice /laws. Getting her people to a better life in that valley would have been her redemption for the dark year and anything else that happened. Do you really think she was the only person desperate to get away from the memories of that bunker. plus Grounders don't do technology no skies, or fresh air must've been hell for them. Octavia was wrong to burn the farm but her hand was forced. Fighting over that valley was inevitable at some future point. The slaughter at the Gorge was a direct result of Kane and Clarke's actions.

Nahid, ya really gotta understand, the characters don't watch the show. You're definition of "reason" comes from a relatively omniscient standpoint, and your emotions are different from the characters emotions. What would you do if your daughter wanted to, go on, as far as you can tell, a suicide mission?
Edit: The characters don't think like you. In order to critique their decisions, YOU have to think like the characters.

The guy on the left is so annoying, "WhAt uP wITh tHe FeMaLeS iN tHIs ShoW?" One. The female leads are the leaders who must undergo harsh decisions. Two. Clarke is a mother and just show motherly love and what would you do for someone you love, like BELLAMY with O. Also there's been plenty of male characters like Bel in S1 and S3, Pike, Kane, McCreary, Cage, Murphy, list goes on. I just think it's weird he points at the gender when commenting on this, but at least he somewhat acknowledges that he may be wrong pointing at the gender. There's also been grreat achievements by the powerful women on this show.

So Madi told Clarke that betraying her was Lexas deepest regret and that she doesn’t want her to make the same mistake she did- betraying the one she loves- Bellamy. And Clarke said her love to Lexa is nothing comparing to how much she loves Madi, but she let her go to war to save Bellamy and you still don’t believe Bellarke is gonna happen? Damn, now I want to watch their reaction to s6 even more
I get the over all sense of what you’re saying..but if you’re really tryna say Lexa told Clarke all that just to save..Bellamy I’m gong to have to say you’re delusional. Why the hell would Lexa care about Bellamy in that moment? Hell I doubt she even remembers him. Lexa’s urging Clarke in that moment not to betray her friends. Why she would single out a man she would barely remember idk. That wasn’t a nod to Bellarke or anything like some ppl think. That’s just grasping at straws.

Season 6 was an overcomplicated mess of a season. You can tell JR was out of ideas after rushing thru the original earth storyline by how forced and convoluted the story in Season 6 was.

@@grayantihero6059 Nah, he already had the other colonies plot on his mind, I'm sure. There are hints, just like there were hints of Diyoza's people. He just mixed the idea of Season 6 with what we've already seen on the show.
Was it better than Season 5? Nope.
season six is probably weakest season, even season1 has better story, but season6 is connecting the dots very clever, and sets thing up for s7 very good.

I too believe that what Kane did was fuck up and if he didn't betrayed wonkru they won easily and Octavia just distance herself from them( i hate to admit it but i think she probably would kill herself once she got her people to the valley) cause that was her only motifs to live
I personally understand their hate for Clarke, but also understand Clarke's position. I really didn't like Clarke this season, but that's what I like about the series, no character ever stays the hero or the good guy, I love that this show is willing to take those risks and make them understandable actions. It's character development for the good or for the bad, but it makes sense with the scenario they are put in. She also been alone with Madi for 6 years and known her friends for 4 months. No character is perfect and it be annoying if Clarke was a perfect golden child, I like seeing characters struggle and push through. (Little spoilery not really) I think it makes sense for how Clarke's co. treats Clarke in S6 because it's literally a few days after Clarke betrayed her friends and let others to die. In conclusion, S5 wasn't my fave, but it was necessary to create the amazing S6 with character growth and struggles:)

Tq, if they discuss the planned with Octavia since the beginning instead of kept betraying her they could already have the valley right now and the earth didn't need to blow up. Kane, Abby, Clarke, Bellamy, Indra, Gaia all go against her but in the end they still used her army and her plan.

Octavia really intended to sacrifice herself here. If she died, people would call it "redemption", but it's not her fault that she survived. She still did that, so nothing can take away from it. For that reason, I think Bellamy should at least try to forgive her from this point forward. Yes, she did horrible things, and I hated her during this season, but if she actually died here he would have forgiven her - and lost her. So he should be happy that she was saved and he still has her in his life at this point.

Clarke really crossed yet another line with Maddie. She's just like her mother.
This season is my least favorite for Clarke because of the choices she made. You would think she learned from previous seasons and reflected during those 6 years, but she still made bad decisions that prolonged what needed to happen. If you aren't in with Clarke then she doesn't care about you. Before it was The 100 and her people, but this season it was all for Madi and no one else up until this point. Sure Clarke just forget about your friends, even Bellamy, who you "talked" to on the radio every day for 6 years straight. I never hated Clarke, but she was never my favorite character and this season didn't help much.
It isn’t that Clarke forgot about her friends. They just didn’t matter as much as her daughter did. She loves her daughter more than anyone else. Her friends matter, but they could never matter the way Madi matters.
The radio thing wasn’t like that according to Eliza and that it wasn’t Bellamy that she was only talking to over time. She said it was more of a habit than anything else. Excuse her tho if her daughter is more of a priority to her then her friends.

Its ok to love a person, but when it becomes ONLY that person then it becomes problematic. Even more so when you are willing to let others (especially people close to you) die for that person without a second thought.

I'm not going to say when because that would be a spoiler for the Couchkru, but it was used as a valid reason for something. Anyway the mother/daughter dynamic between Clarke and Madi is vine by me. Its one of things I actually liked about this season. However, I still see fault in Clarke for treating Madi the way she did and for actually being WILLING to let her friends die. Friends who she fought and killed for too.
