Ah, it sure is nice to see her again. ODDEYE109, thank you for posting this. First time I had see the bike since it went over to the Collection Hall, other than a few stills when it was being taken apart and prepped for display. (That kind of hurt, actually!) I acquired this bike- Mike Baldwin's 1982 Superbike- from American Honda in 1986. We had it at Willow Springs in early 2000, with Freddie Spencer, Kevin Cameron from Cycle World magazine and Dave Despain from SpeedVision there for the 20th anniversary of Honda's Superbike team. It was also the introduction of the RC51, and they brought out their new, 18-year-old "Freddie" in the form of Nicky Hayden, who we just lost so tragically. I wish that program was here on youtube, but I can't find it. I think Despain's show then was called Motoworld. Anyway, American Honda borrowed it from me a time or two, for a Daytona display or other event. Then they asked if I would let them have it back. In the end, it was the Collection Hall that was able to take it, so there she now is. I sometimes miss the beast, and wish American Honda could have kept it here. But at least the machine is appreciated there and can be seen. Nice to see some things did NOT get cleaned up and painted over. I recognize a few of the scars from that 1982 season, which were always part of its charm. This very machine won the last two 1000cc Superbike races- the late season Daytona race and Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach - but Baldwin finished second in the title chase to Eddie Lawson. The next year the class was the new 750cc limit, so this machine is a genuine piece of history!
Those Honda DOHC superbikes were awesome...works of art
