sasanian Immortals were Super heavy cavelry .... i also wanna mention only in west people would call sasanian top cavelry immortal probably because they have a background of Achaemenids but the real name of sasanian cavelry was Pushtig-banan. it means Supporters in middle persian not Immortals
Fun fact: The Romans also created their own unit of elite troops named after the Immortals (called the Athanatoi). They were cataphracts and formed part of the tagmata, the central army of the Romans. The tagmata would be largely defeated at the Battle of Manzikert in 1071 and the Athanatoi, along with most other elite units that formed both the tagmata and the imperial guard within it, would be disbanded or destroyed in battle between in the subsequent decades. Brilliant video! I look forward to checking out more of what you've got on this channel.
No it was the other way around. The greeks called them that because that's the impression they got from them. They were called the immortals because the name suited them.
The Sassanid Immortals were a cavalry force, unlike the Achaemenid ones who were an infantry force.

Immortals are my favorite Ancient unit. I love them because of the Achaemenid army.
They are one of the more interesting!
Good video! I was surprised to see you had so little subscribers when your content is this superb.
Thankyou!

Thankyou!
@@AncientHistoryGuy you're welcome
You nickname your unit "The Immortals" and eventually you're just tempting fate.

Do a video on the further iteration of the immortals (and the same concepts as this vid) in Sassanian service, please. :)
Nice video
Thankyou!
Pijamabower infantry :)
This is entirely inaccurate, everyone knows the immortals were actually black clad ninja demon zombies dual wielding katanas.
It's true, Herodotus says the immortals were quite easily beaten back by the Greek alliance at Thermopylae, suffering many casualties like the Medes
As if Herodotus never lied
