    Pixel art is such a niche scene. I came across Paul Robertson's work in the early 2000s. I recommend checking him out if this is a new experience for you. "Kings of Power 4 Billion %" is a wild ride that critiques power, entertainment and propaganda. It's very violent though, so if you're sensitive to that kind of thing, I wouldn't reccomend it.
    Evocative of the culture of 8-bit and 16-bit videogames from the 80s and 90s, which I think did fill an educational void for some to a degree. They were retro when I became interested in them, but I actually came to the awareness of some serious historical themes through games, some of which did a fair job of framing the problem space of class struggle, for example, and allowed you to make choices in that space.
    Keep up the good work. With some good writers, I could see this going somewhere.

    • @jared4034
      @jared4034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, I should note that I'm not unfamiliar with the contemporary take on this culture, and this adaptation is tangent to the popular scene. This application of art as education matches a particular fashion present in a current space.

    • @jared4034
      @jared4034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And if the target audience is from a generation capable of making changes within the timeframe estimated, an animation of this integrity could play a pivotal role in the introduction of the themes deemed necessary for progress.

    I've known about Game B for a while but never stepped into the space to learn more. I heard about this and wanted to see how Game B types try to reach an audience. It's not a bad start, but is extremely skewed towards people who think in a way that is, forgive me, crunchy. This would absolutely not land with 99% of people who work with their hands and don't have college degrees. That's most of the people I know. I know this because that's me also, I'm just unusually open to stuff like this (something I'm made quite aware of by my peers)
    Please consider how huge a swath of people you will miss communicating only like this. You need a story that can speak to another type of person. You can't change a mind that's not ready, fair enough, but you sure as hell can't wait for everyone to accept a need for "wholeness and regeneration" before they'd listen. And any world you construct without those people will crumble; those are the folks who leave the high-minded stuff to you guys because they have shit to do. I'm reading through the comments here as well and just shaking my head. This is entirely alien to most people.

    I can easily see this turning into a fully immersive, mind-altering virtual reality game - produced by some of the smartest minds across all the industries in an effort to educate the individual about wholesome living. With elements of true cooperation like at the end of Nier Automata where you sacrifice your save data so other players can get extra lives to win their game. With transcendent 'outside the box' puzzle experiences like in the 'talos principle'. Influenced by mods like Max Derrat who contribute to the mythological story telling that creates truly profound video game moments.
    It would all start out as this exact same 8-bit style GAME B indie title, that scores number 1 in steams top 150 indie game list through its mind-bending co-op missions. Tested by Daniel Schmachtenberger, Greenhall and Wheal and the Stoa community for its real-ism and accuracy of application of Rule Omega in dialogue options throughout the game, without which neither you, nor anyone else on your server can advance in a meaningful way.
    In the campaign you first get introduced to the transient and fragile nature of the game - it all feels like a giant balancing act from the day you enter. At first you have some small, complicated riddles to solve. Nothing much to handle, but if you fail it triggers irreversible in-game events that affect your chance of staying alive. After a while it gets too difficult to solve alone and cooperation is required.
    Riddles include trailing after the hints of ubiquitous psychopathologies in the behaviors of NPCs to find essential clues for how the dominance hierarchy was manipulated. You can gather virtue points if you say what other characters want to hear, but later on there is a twist where it turns out you've been filling your Signal Meter, which is akin to gathering bad karma and the real Virtue Meter has been calculating if your words have matched your actions.
    As you continue to play you get subtly enticed into becoming calculatively caring. You and your team get stucked into steel-maning an AI's evil masterplan to find the sensible route that turns destructive intent onto its head to find a peaceful solution that addresses the underlying, emotional needs of the AI.
    It becomes a real team effort as there is no real way to win the game - the only goal is to keep the root server, which can't be rebooted, from switching off. It is triggered through multiple armageddon events in game: escalation of the culture wars through misinformation warfare, the game world getting nuked to annihilation because someone defaults to 'destroy the other party' in a prisoner's dilemma type situation or everyone dying from complex supply chain issues that cause global famine.
    Everyone has skin-in-the-game - your mission points are tied into the $GAMEB cryptocurrency that rises in stock-value as more and more people join the global gaming phenomenon. For a while the mods keep the game in check as they appear as 'wise old men' or 'fools' to help the players in tricky quests - but inevitably the extinction event happens.
    Everyone wakes up, stupefied by the GAME B armageddon, trying to return into the real world in which GAME B is just a video game title.
    Interacting with strangers feels unfamiliar at first, almost like it doesn't carry the same weight as in-game interactions did. But with every day that passes, real-life starts to feel more and more like... GAME B.
    Two months after armageddon the game developers that everyone has voting rights according to their virtue meter on the new platform: META GAME B - a project that surpasses the previous one in scope hundredfold. People from all nations who have proven to be cooperative, kind, caring, wise get job offers to work on one of the META GAME B campuses.
    META GAME B is the beginning of the new world civilization...
    Five years after its launch, META GAME B physicists crack the secret to speed-of-light travel. The rest is history.

    Hey there, great work everyone and a nice start.
    As a suggestion - if you wish the video to reach beyond the community, crafting a title and thumbnail that is engaging to new viewers who don't know about Game B would be wise...
    And I suggest cutting the first 10s, too many people will leave due to a lack of stimulation...

    • @olivergilpin

      For example, the title could be:
      "If the future was a video game...

    Beautifully done. Style and music were spot on. The dedication to craft is apparent.
    The overall message is a good and necessary one, but the reasoning was full of paradoxes. Not to mention that there are entire "cultures" who have no interest in local, let alone global, cooperation. Ultimately, in reality, the only way Game B gets adapted on a mass scale is through coercion and force; which means SOME are in control of MANY - an elite class. Naturally, that invites rebellion and aggression, which turns into violent tribalism, which leads to mutually assured destruction. Perhaps from the ashes, enough players and tech will survive to begin Game B on a meaningful level...

      I"m even less optimistic about Game B arising "from the ashes". Anyone who survives Mutually Assured Destruction, won't be able to play much except the First Game.
      Game B requires that we build on existing infrastructure, not destroy it.
      In the quest for Game B, there will be lots of resistance - but not from any particular nation. There is no holy war that can be fought and won. That's Game A shit.
      Instead, the battle is between humans and the mind-parasite.

It's good to explore different motifs of communication, I just think people are going to need to be very careful what kinds of people they share this one with (I say this as someone who really wants to see Game B work) because it's likely to stimulate a pretty strong contrarian reaction just on the opening and styling.

    I loved the idea of the movie, but have serious criticisms of it: it basically took the form of a description, from a god's eye view, literally traveling through time, not an involved, time and space bound, struggle. Given that Game B is about embodiment and action (and The Stoa's motto is "Dont explain your philosophy, embody it"), I think it is ironic that the movie is very static and descriptive. Also, it lacked imaginal power and metaphorical depth. I loved it anyways, and I definitely think art is the medium we need to move in. The propositional content and the explanations were valid and insightful, but the metaphors were too direct; it didnt have the emotional effect of a parable or story, the "plotline" was somewhat superficial and the scene and the characters were too static and almost not expressive of emotion at all; the soundtrack was rather monotonous too; the images were beautiful indeed but lacked movement and expression and so did not give a profound participatory access to the story and to the character's situation. I'm not sure the video game format is the best, especialy not pixelated because it seems too slow and dry. The story also seemed a bit too close to The Matrix, which is fun but falls prey to a Game A twist of Plato's cave by dichotomizing transformation into the taking of a pill or the answer to a test between yes/no, like in this movie. I hope this criticism can be taken as constructive and in good faith.

    "The only way out is through. It is very important that we take what we have learned from Game A, then once again move to sustain the principles of wholeness and regeneration."
    Does anyone know if there's a formal term for this concept (i.e. coming full circle back to where one began, but with a new perspective, having integrated the previous phases)?

      "Transcend and include" (Ken Wilber). It's a core principle of evolution. Molecules transcend and include atoms, cells transcend and include molecules, organs > cells, organism > organs, ecosystem > organisms. Highly organized life systems cannot handle internal conflict. Technology must therefore transcend and include nature, not transcend and exclude it.

    Well, I appreciate the effort. One thing I liked was the mention of 'decentralized' and this, I think, points to how crucial digital technology is going to be if we are to succeed. (Re bitcoin: everyone needs to get off zero). In general I don't like the idealization and romanticizing of "the first game" and the complete lack of attention to spirituality and the role that Christianity in particular has played in getting us this far -- far enough that we can now ask the question "what is game B?".
    Being an ex-hippie myself I've seen these sui generis 'solutions' before and what dooms them is the complete lack of continuity with the past, which is to say: a complete lack of awareness that you are in a fundamental way the sum total of everything that has preceded you; and furthermore a lack of respect - or worse, resentment - towards your inheritance. Hence, doomed to failure and sadly a muddying of waters with idealism.

    Could someone tell me what's meant with regeneration, wholeness, 'protecting nature' and growth based economy?

    • @EricSpaete
      @EricSpaete ปีที่แล้ว

      Game A can be thought of simply as the market system of economics as we see it today. Growth is a fundamental mechanism of that system therefore it is a growth-based economy. Growth in this context is what's called a positive feedback loop. In order to protect nature from that out-of-control growth the idea is to create a new economic orientation, Game B, which conforms to the actual state of the planet or nature as a system, which it is best understood as. Regeneration and wholeness are attributes of the natural planetary system that supports life. This is all to say that market economics, from a systems perspective, is oriented towards the destruction of life rather than the support of it.

    I have two genuine questions to the people watching this: Of course what's called "Game B" here generally aims simply at creating a better life with more long-term well-being for all of us. That is, humans wanting to create better lives for ourselves *and* the humans after us. Also, at 14:20 it says "Nature creates humans, humans create technology and technology must be used to support the integrity of nature".
    But why should we keep humans in the picture at all? That is, do you support antinatalism or not?
    And for those that don't support antinatalism, i.e. want to sustain humankind overall: Why should we keep technology in the picture at all? That is, do you support Neo-Luddism?

  • @pteronine9
    @pteronine9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Will shifting our human dilemma using the Game A language of competition not keep us in Game A? What needs to shift in the way the story is told? What would Game B language say?

    Amazing video, very tastefully done and efficiently explains the most important aspects (if not, the only really unique aspects) of the Game B movement, in my opinion.
    Only suggestion is to keep subtitles the whole way through--for the last section just have the text at the bottom :)

    This may be trivial, but maybe I can start by asking my neighbors to not put chemicals on their lawns? If they need help with weeding, start a group to weed the lawns by hand. A community effort of sorts?
