  • The Esoteric Order of Gamers (www.orderofgame...) goes far far away into a box of Star Wars: Rebellion by Fantasy Fight Games. Many gamers died to bring us this information. Let's hope the game is good enough to justify the shelf space that huge box is going to take up!

    Still the best Unboxing vids out there. It's amazing what a little bit of editing does to make it all come together!
    Well done again.

    UniHead, I agree with you about the size of the box. I thought the same thing when I opened my copy. Then I remembered that this is Fantasy Flight we are talking about. There is no doubt in my mind that FFG has future sinister plans to drain our wallets further with expansions to this game. Therefore they are probably preparing for game owners to store everything in one box.
    By the way, this game is already getting rave reviews across the board (no pun intended). So that all but confirms there will be multiple expansions. Maybe small packs with of cards, leaders and additional miniatures that will be meant to be stored in this huge box. Mark my words, it will happen. Of course it will mean that we need to wait for a few expansions before we know what our custom inserts should look like.
    How did your first game go?

      +Bryan Barton Interesting idea Bryan, but FFG have never released boxes that 'plan ahead' for expansions, though of course this big box's extensive space could accommodate future expansions if they happen. We never know how many expansions a game will get (and they probably don't know either until they see the sales figures), so it wouldn't be a practical idea. It may be handy in the future (though personally I like to keep expansions in their separate boxes - what happens when you get that one expansion that just - won't - fit?), but I suspect in this case the big box size is for other reasons.
      First game was a little rough on the Rebels, we got steamrollered. I need more games to discover viable strategies!

      The Esoteric Order of Gamers ffg box sizes are based solely on msrp. If a game costs x it takes up y cubic inches. Given the number of ffg boxes I have I'm confident in this assessment.
      Update: checked size vs price on 6 items
      Rebellion 6.9 in^3 / USA$
      Battlelore 2ND ed 5.74 in^3 /$
      $30 xwing kit 5.31 in^3/$
      $40 xwing kit 7.43 in^3/$
      $50 xwing kit 7.44 in^3/$
      Xwing starter 3.45 in^3/$

      Bryan Barton I've often said they should include direct deposit forms in the core sets. You can fill one out and have a chunk of your paycheck deposited directly into ffg accounts, then they will automatically ship expansions to you.

    Generally speaking, I'm okay with the huge box size because it means that it will have room for the expansion sets.
    Now what I dislike is useless inserts as you saw in the video. They usually are designed to be thrown-out/recycled as soon as the box is opened. Their only function is to reduce bumping around during shipping. As a comparison, the Hellboy board game has great plastic inserts where each miniature is kept in place because the insert is molded to fit the figures.

      I've always hated and complained about the way FFG ignored box inserts in favour of a cheap cardboard filler. They started it, stuck with it, got away with it, and over the years have saved themselves a fortune in production, it's as simple as that.

      @@EsotericOrderGamers You're right from my experience. One of the first board games I bought was the Doom (2004). I still own it and never threw out the cheap cardboard filler solely because it had some artwork on it

    Somehow all of the FFG games have boxes way bigger than they had to be. I don't think they plan ahead of an expansion (I doubt there will be much for Rebellion, usually they make it very clear). I think FFG should overthink their way of packaging, there just isn't a good reason for making those boxes so much bigger again and again and again. It costs them space, it costs the shop space and it costs us space. At least two times it means their cost sure is higher then it has to be.

    Interesting comment about the new films there... The following one really pushed the boundaries as you wanted.
    And I personally loved The Last Jedi.
    What did you think?

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend not to get involved in SW discussions as people get very passionate about it! :) But for some reason SW never gripped me as much as it did others of my generation, though I was the perfect age - 12 - when the first film came out. Though I liked the original films, I was immersed in D&D at the time, and I always found the very basic good vs evil nature of SW a bit dull. The prequels were terrible, and everything since then I've found forgettable. I know - heresy! :)

    hey why don't you cut down the box with a scalpel or like put some thing inside the box while you cut it to support it?. if the logo doesn't show on the side after cutting it I guess you could just tape or glue that on.?...

      +Aven Dailfire making a video fo doing that could really send the point home hard to FF.. they need to be told this isn't ok. its really deceptive and its not "cool"

      @EsotericOrderGamers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aven Dailfire I mentioned it on Boardgamegeek and some people like the bigger box. I doubt FFG will be changing their packaging policies because of my little whinge! :)

      +Aven Dailfire I was thinking about that. to save on shelf space. But the issue comes if they release an expansion and you then need the room....
