Thirty years ago I saw a Marsalis band perform this marvelous work from 1948, with the original soloist Jimmy Hamilton featured. And now I can see this superb performance by these young people, by memory yet! Like so many Ellington masterworks, Duke dropped it out of his repertoire, in this case in 1954.
There's a performance of The Tattooed Bride on Ellington Live at Cornell University, although I can't guarantee that it's the one he refers to; I'm afraid I can't remember the date of that concert.
I am absolutely astonished by this bands performance! and that is a major understatement. They locked into the groove so well and really felt the emotion behind the music. 10/10 wish I could have gone to see this live!!
This orchestra stole the show last year. They won and they deserved it. Probably the greatest performance I heard during the Essentially Ellington competitions. After watching to the first part today, not sure they'll be surpassed this year. San Diego School of Performing Arts and Tucson Jazz Institute were great, but ...
Fantastic. This young orchestra has really gotten to very essence of Edward Kennedy Ellington. Bravo to each and every one of you. This warms my heart.
Cooper Mclaughlin honestly now I do a lot more piano and orchestral composition, since leaving school not being in a jazz group has made it difficult to continue going on with it, I still have my trombone though.
this is, hands down, the best performance ever at essentially ellington. more soul and sophistication than the competition has ever seen
tenor 2 plays some killer clarinet dear god
Hell yeah
This is the best ALL-TIME performance at this competition hands down.
Shalom
Most well deserved standing ovation in competition history.
That lead trumpet looks so committed. Good on him

Is there a recording of that performance that you know of?

This piece and the final performance of this make me feel a lot of emotions,i can't stand that, i love the final "Movement" of the piece.

San Diego? They were there in 2016, when American Music Program didn't make it. You must be thinking of Lexington.

Wow none of their soloists got honorable mentions, they only got OUTSTANDING soloist awards. That’s incredible
@@Ezraiscool-jv2jb in addition, one of the few bands to get an outstanding award for each section. Truly legendary.
This is directed by Clarence Acox. Who are you talking about?
@@michaelwilcox5168Clarence directed Garfield High School at the time. This band was directed by Thara Memory
This band is swinging real hard
THAT PIANO PLAYER

Fantastic. This young orchestra has really gotten to very essence of Edward Kennedy Ellington. Bravo to each and every one of you. This warms my heart.
The fact that the bone section is mostly female is awesome! I rarely see that in my experience.
The one with red hair is a senior at my HS, still 1st trombone in our top jazz band
Etna Mode that’s me 😄
Riley do you still play?
Cooper Mclaughlin honestly now I do a lot more piano and orchestral composition, since leaving school not being in a jazz group has made it difficult to continue going on with it, I still have my trombone though.
Riley oh ok i also play the piano in my schools jazz band and orchestra but keep it up you are an awesome player!
Still the Baddest band to ever play Ellington.
Like, good or bad baddest?
I think you know what he meant
This clarinetist is my favorite youth clarinet player i've heard, great job man.
Have you yet seen Emma Lacy from foxboro high 2022 & 23? She's also a different breed.
WOW! Fantastic from the gang in Portland.
No sheet music? Interesting. i would think the director makes them memorize it so it swings harder
Actually i realized after watching, this is a young jazz competition all of the competitors had no sheet music.
Fatsacks Allday Not all of them didn't have sheet music.
You get extra points of memorization
@@gangstakittie7699 not necessarily true, Lexington got top 3 over bands that did memorize their music while having sheet music
@@roosterslime9430 oh. Didnt know that, thanks for the correction
Absolutely stunning xxx
Absolutely magnificent
outstanding performance
Where did Ellington find these melodies... so original, yet strangely familiar.
Trombone solo awesome
Autumn Leaves lick at 1:30
wow 10/10 man 10/10
Clarinet Solo: 10:20
What are the two notes at 4:15
gavin farrell It sounds to me like the trombones have a C♭, the 2nd trumpet has an A♭, and the lead trumpet has a high D♭.
Эмоции на лице барабанщика бесценны! )))
Absolute Magic
The trumpet section be Monette gang
The bass face
F & Eb -
