Excellent video. I can easily see why you like Basingstoke Station. Great shots of the various freight workings joining the mainline over the pointwork. Nice to see a Class 56 making an appearance and unusual to see a First Great Western unit in that area.
+HomeMoviePerson When I go south I like this station the best. Eastleigh is good too but most freights stop and that doesn't make for great video. The 56 went through Wellingborough that day down the MML and down south. It would have been better if Mayflower turned up instead of that 47 but as with this type of hobby you sometimes get let down. The FGW unit is a regular working bi-hourly I think. It runs from Reading hence the FGW service. It is the only service of FGW that runs to or through Basingstoke though. You could do better at Reading West but the location is limited for the type of shots you can get. However, its easy to do both on the same trip since they are only 10 miles apart and that FGW service stops there. For line side shots there is an excellent bridge at Worting Junction south of Basingstoke. I also film here because nobody else does.
Wow Richard this is another good one, not been on this station filming since a class 71 was there on a Pathfinder tour in the 90s I think. Great station for freight as you know but it was a shame they decided to take the steam off them tours. Mike.
antman09ful1 Thanks Mike. Got burned at Basingstoke had itchy legs for a week as I wore shorts. My first visit 2 or 3 years ago was a bit better than this visit, but I felt it was worth it in the end. I love filming where there are no wires and Basingstoke is perhaps 2nd only to Eastleigh on the southern region.
SMILEVIDEOTRAINS Thanks mate. Winchester looks like a standard 2 line station to me. Prefer lots of points, crossovers and clickety clacking. Would love to do Tyesley and Shrewsbury but not a lot goes there. Do you know of any freight stations that have a cool layout like Basingstoke?
Thank you. Enjoyed that! I was in Basingstoke last Tuesday and also paid a brief visit to see Reading. I'll post this on TH-cam shortly.

Great video
trainmania100 Thank you for liking the video.
We were just down the track mate at Winchester which I like better. We had signal problems passing through Basingstoke. Nice to see you far from home.

Yes I understand. You will have to fing a spot next to a busy yard I guess.
