  • Shopify 2.0 completely changed the way product filtering works. We now have a brand new Filters section in the Shopify dashboard. We can finally filter by Price, we can filter by product options like size or color. And we can create custom filters using metafields.
    In Shopify 2.0 we are losing tag filters, and color filters are still a bit harder to do. And there are still reasons to use filtering apps despite the upgrades.
    This video is a complete guide that will teach you everything about creating filters in Shopify, and introduce you to Shopify 2.0 metafields and creating custom filters using metafields.

    Filter settings have moved to Shopify Search & Discovery. I had to install the app. Once I did that, I was able to open the app and follow your video to turn on some filters, create some filters, and create some metadata fields. Very helpful, especially after the Shopify support articles left me feeling lost! Thank you
    In Online Store > Navigation > Collections and search filters, there is this message: "Filter settings and new features like product boosts and recommendations are now available in the Shopify Search & Discovery app. Make changes to these settings in the app."

    Thank you, your video explains this clearly, unlike all the Shopify "guidance". I will be looking at your other videos to see if they will help me set up a filter for Width fittings for shoes so that I can group different variant terms eg W, Wide, G and H, under one search term "Wide".

    • @ruthk3876
      @ruthk3876 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the past I used an App and was able to merge tags to make filtering shoes easier, I guess because to start with it created a tags to use to filter. Is there a way to merge variant properties eg size or width to achieve the same? For example some of our shoes are sold in UK sizes, some in EU sizes. With the tags I could merge the two so that if someone wanted size UK 1 the results also showed them EU 33. The same for width eg merging Wide, G and H all together as "wide". Could this be achieved with a metafield? I don't want to turn on the Tag filter because it seems to be all or nothing and made a horrible mess, including revealing tags that we use to organise products.

  • @CuteFoksie
    @CuteFoksie ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Thanks for the awesome video! Very useful information! Maybe you have a tutorial where you talk about sizes. I have different sizing systems for shoes (EU, UK) in the shop and I would like to make my sizes show up as EU everywhere - in the filter and in the option selector on the clients side.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you Ed for this video, it was very helpful for me, to understand better how to work in metafields and filters. Do you know if there is a way to use this function "Use AND condition" without an App?

    Thank you for your video! I still have a question regarding the use of Shopify "Search & Discovery". Thanks a lot!

    Hi Ed!
    Quick question , is there a way to use filter and show different variants of the product. Example : I have 3 sizes of t-shirts each one have a different price , would be posible to filter for M and the product that will show it's the variant M with the price of an M t-shirt and the image of the M t-shirt instead of the default one ?
    The way I have dealt with the issue is create a different products like a 3 t-shirts pack instead than a variant ( to avoid having the same image and price for all the products and then when a customer click it's on the wrong variant and displays a diferent price)
    Thank you so much for you content.

    Hi, Thank you for video. One question, is it possible to list all metafield values in filters section, currently it shows only selected values as filter items. I have the “product options” type of a filter for size and color. When im on a collections page and filter by say color blue, I want it to now filter out what’s available in blue for sizes. If it’s available in size large I want it to only show size large on the page. For some reason it won’t filter out by what’s available.
    Is product options best for this or should I try meta fields?

    • @multa7053
      @multa7053 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Supply isn't 2.0 and you can customize Dawn quite a bit when it's only the images for you. Dawn and refresh are probably the best free 2.0 themes for most stores. Dawn is great because of the tutorials available already.

    • @EdCodes
      @EdCodes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Currently you don't have many options if you're looking for a free 2.0 theme - they are all basically the same as Dawn but with different presets. So it's not like it was before with Debut and Supply being totally different. Best option now is just to have a look at some paid themes and see what you like more, here are some of my favorites - ed.codes/blogs/resources/best-shopify-themes

    Hi Ed, quick question!
    Is it possible in the product options to create a filter, and then create multiple values for the option without making it a variant? For example if I am selling a T-shirt which is green and yellow but I only have 1 in stock, is there any way I can have it filtered by colors Green & Yellow separately without Shopify creating a variant so it shows two of the T-shirt in stock as 1 x green, 1 x yellow.
    It has been driving me mad for weeks so any help is appreciated! Thanks heaps for the video :)
