Why does zoedepth not work for me? I've tried using different browsers and it just loads endlessly. Any advice?

It is still looking much like Midas model. What I mean is this one still only can give relative depth information. It still can not provide real metric depth info.

It's a bit of both actually. The depth range is more realistic compared to MiDaS since the code is also using metric depth.
