    "Young Guns (Go for It)" (also listed as "Young Guns (Go for It!)" on some releases) is a song by English pop duo Wham! first released as a single in the UK by Innervision Records in October 1982. It was written and co-produced by George Michael, of the duo. The song was Wham!'s first hit, achieved with help from the BBC music programme Top of the Pops, which invited Wham! on to the show as a last-minute replacement for another act which had pulled out. The producer of Top of the Pops had seen them on another programme, Saturday Superstore.[1

    At this point it was Dee C Lee who was later replaced by Pepsi ,Dee left to join the style council I think. Dee also had her own pretty decent solo album.

    Those days were a lot of fun!! I was 17 and on the weekends going to the Underage Dance Club called The Odyssey One in Hollywood.. The Club didn't close till 4am in the morning! We'd all go to the Greenery Restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd afterwards and then Hitchhike to the Beach sometimes.. Not just good times..Great Times!!

    ...I was pooped from Miss Empresses' ELEVEN posts today(!) , so, I was gonna bow out....but, It's Georgie, so.... ***WHAM! TRIVIA TIIIME!!!*** ...let's GO, for IIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTT....
    - WILL C-D below, told it ALL...THIS was the "Tops Of The Pops" appearance, that catapulted them into STARDOM...look at it, Kids...they were HUNGRY...they were TIGHT..... they were PREPARED.... They had ONE chance, and, that choreography showed it ALL! ...VERY rare, these days..
    -Us Americans didn't hear about WHAM! (then, called, "WHAM! UK", here), at that moment... BUT! ...Dick Clark premiered their Music Video on "American Bandstand" Spring, 1983, and, we went NUTS!! ...I ran to buy their Album "Fantastic", and EVERY TRACK was the BOMB!
    - This tune had a little bit of CONTROVERSY, too; after line, "...well, THIS Young Gun, says..." (3:08) ...ORIGINALLY, it was, '..ab-ortion pays...' ...George was asked (by the label), to 'slur' the word, to sound like, "caution pays...' ...I have the ORIGINAL cassette, that has him saying the "A" Word...
    ...."Bad Boys" was released Fall of 1983, "Club Tropicana" released late 1983 / 1984, and then the ONSLAUGHT of "Wake Me Up.." "Last Christmas", "Careless Whisper", "Everything She Wants", "Freedom" & "I'm Your Man"...ALL, in 1985!!
    ...and, Shirlie (the Blonde) is performing this, with Dee C Lee (not Pepsi, yet, Sir Will), who left the group to perform with The Style Council....
    ...NO MORE Empress, I gotta go to BED, I'm OLD! ...ha-HAAA!!

    Wham’s first hit! 🙌 And it broke thru after they got a spot for this appearance on Top Of The Pops after another act pulled out of the show. Definitely an example of carpe diem… George seized the day and the rest is history! I’m sure they would’ve become big anyway, George was just 19 years old in this video, and he’d written their record between the ages of 17-18. The guy was a certified pop genius. That hook “there’s danger in emotional ties” is so tight and fun, and that line “death by matrimony”! Lol. What a gift to good times and bad was our Gorgeous George 💖

    This song was the second single of WHAM and the breakthrought of this duet in Europe and this song was how everything started for Wham and for George. The first single ''Wham Rap'' wasn't a success at all originally, but this song gained slowing success in all the Europe. This song was their first song charted in Europe and in UK. In the native UK, this was the first song of this duet who the radios started to played. He slowing gained success in radios, but one day, the duet received a call from the ''Top in the Pops'' to participate at this show, because a artist feature at the top 40 decided to not go in the show depist it's close to the top 40. After George and Andrew participates at this show, everything changed and this was the start has a huge career for George and finally reaching the top 3 in UK.

    Amazing. I was 11!! I fell in love with George Michael then. Andrew Ridgeley's brother Paul was on drums and George's best pal Dave Austin (blond hair), who subsequently had a UK record called Turn To Gold and co-wrote a couple of George's songs, was on guitar in the background - that's because they had nobody else cos they were so skint - fun facts lol. Thanks, Empress xx

    Shirley, the blonde, was friends with Andrew and George when they were teens, she went to the same college as Andrew Ridgeley actually dated him for a while, that's how she met George. They all hung out together.

    The girls were Pepsi and Shirlie and they sang backup on a number of Wham! tracks.
    Hopefully you'll get a chance to react to 'Wham Rap" from this same period.

    • @LaurentChevassu
      @LaurentChevassu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Common mistake... In those days, the girls were Shirlie (the blond one) and Dee C. Lee. I had a doubt when Empress posted the Club Tropicana reaction, I didn't really recognise Pepsi, so I checked Wikipedia and it says that Pespi replaced Dee C. Lee later on (after Club Tropicana). When you think of it, Pepsi & Shirlie were the "whamettes" so, like the classic backing bands, they were kind of exchangeable... at least in people's minds.

      @@hoxtondean9855 yes mate it was a big hit in England and she does the female vocal on 'Walls come tumbling down' big hit for Style Council. Pepsi and Shirlie hit no2 with their first single 'Heartache' after Wham split up and I'm sure it was George with Aretha that stopped them getting to no.1
