Announcers are simply expressing the anxiety of their companies that the CFB playoff didn’t draw as many fans as planned. Their complaints are lodged to change fan perception to then adjust CFB structure, which is not entirely in their control.
A lot of great conversation on the show today. It's interesting about the dynamic with Herbstreit. I remember years ago he was viewed as a shill for Ohio State and the Big Ten. Now that ESPN's in bed with the SEC he's basically turned into a honk for them. He still has a slant towards Ohio State but I feel like he's lost touch. Is Ohio State's fanbase a bit insane? I'd say so, but the conversation about Ryan Day was for the most part a very reasonable one. I think Herbie takes criticism of the school a bit TOO personal at times and needs to step back a bit. BTW I saw a report on a fan site talking about how you (Doug) blasted Herbie on Saturday. So you're getting some coverage! A couple short things then a message about this show: 1. Man, that Mills injury didn't look THAT bad the other night. It just goes to prove that the most innocuous things can be devastating as hell. The biggest example of that I can think of is the crash that took Dale Earnhardt's life. He was in a bunch of wrecks that made his fatal crash look like preschool. The Irish on defense are like my pro team last year and to a certain extent this year too (Buffalo Bills) in that they're getting killed on that side of the ball but still producing. 2. I REALLY hate the portal to the core of my being. I get it, the kids deserve some measure of freedom but it's gone too far. Unfortunately as Landis says, there's no good fix so we're just going to have to live with this crap for a while at least. Finally, I love that message from Doug at the end of the show. This is the kind of content that's badly needed in the CFB media ecosystem. I saw some guy comment over the weekend about how this show sucks because various northern schools aren't like each other and to a certain extent that's true, the North isn't nearly as monolithic in culture the way the south is but that kind of diversification is what makes the North cool to me. Too many of the national guys take it for granted that the SEC's the greatest thing since slice bread but that's NOT always the case. Hell, 20ish years ago the SEC was the 2nd or 3rd best conference with the Big Ten and Big XII viewed as the top conferences. Things CAN change and with the flattening of the sport now, the dominance of the SEC is about to end. A dominance i may add, was carried on the back of Nick Saban and now he's gone. Happy Holidays guys!
Consider me part of the lunatic fringe 😂
I’m telling you, the dude that prints up the “Lunatic Fringe” tshirts and sells them in Pasadena will make a killing.
Love the show. Keep up the great work guys.
Also, Bill’s hat is great. Go Army!!

Winning a conference should get you an auto bid, but not a Bye.
Osu didn’t anticipate him transferring
Kirk is Smoltz of CFB now
