- Ryan Reynolds has shared a comedic birthday message to his Wrexham co-owner, Rob McElhenney, by demanding people ‘respect’ the actor.
Reynolds put together a full original song celebrating his friend, joking about how difficult it is to pronounce his surname, and gives a lesson in how to do it right.
‘A birthday card might’ve been easier’, he joked alongside the music video, which is a full-scale production.

Little did I know that when I Googled how to pronounce Rob McElhenney's name that I'd get such a satisfying answer. Thanks, Ryan Reynolds and company, for clearing that up so emphatically.

It was written by Pasek & Paul, who are famous Broadway composers. They wrote "Dear Evan Hansen", songs for the movie "Lala Land" and "The Greatest Showman". I don't know if the two are fans of football, the series, or did it just because they love a joke but they did a great job.

As some one from Ireland never actually heard anyone pronounce it that way over here usually it’s Mac-el-hey-nee but I can’t really describe but the h is soft and bearly noticeable 😂so I dono Ryan, seems like the pronunciation changed when it crossed the pond

Before I heard Rob pronounce it in some interview years ago, I always thought it was like "Mc-ELenny," with the Mc pronounced like in McDonald's and the accent on the "el"... and a silent H. Is the "Mc" really pronounced "Mac" and "heynee" instead of just "henee"?
