Gavin Harrison is just... goddamn. One of the worlds best drummers. Hands down. Yeah man this is a prog masterpiece. Steven Wilson, the guy wearing no shoes, is a musical genius. His solo work is fantastic too.
Seeing how much he likes getting deep into lyrics and specially this type of subject and "vibe", he would absolutely love "Hand. Cannot. Erase." in its entirety, not only the lyrical content is amazing, the music is just top-notch. Steven is a genius indeed.
@@DiegoDeschain agreed. That album is a masterpiece from beginning to end. Guthrie and Marco were an absolute bliss on it. And on The Raven That Refused to Sing .
Nice one! PT is one of my favs. The lead singer Steven Wilson is now on his own and has put out some amazing albums. The drummer (Gavin Harrison) likes to fuck with the keyboard player by throwing in crazy fills randomly. That's the reason for the chuckles in this vid.
For anyone interested, the reason the keyboardist keeps looking over at the drummer is that Gavin is ad libbing all over the goddamn place which is keeping everyone else on their toes.
Glad you enjoyed this! Imo Porcupine Tree is one of the best prog bands! Satisfies me while waiting for the next Tool album lmao. The singer, Steven Wilson, worked with and produced for Mikael Akerfeldt and Opeth. Also I suggested the song "Frictional Nevada" by Venetian Snares before but imma bring it up again lol. It's part of an electronic music style partly derived from idm called Breakcore that's based on creative rhythms mostly using very brutal and abrasive drum machines.
Steven Wilson, Gavin Harrison and Mikael Akerfeldt all worked with OSI too. Awesome band to check out. Kevin Moore and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, and Jim Matheos from Fates Warning were in it as well.
The greatness is evident....as is Steven Wilson's solo work ( which Porcupine Tree actually is as well ) Here are 2 bands you might like, that you probably haven't heard of ( both prog) Anathema "Thin Air" Riverside "Escalator Shrine"( another band featuring primarily 1 songwriter , Mariusz Duda - singer / bassist- who has collaborated with Steven Wilson)
Anyone coming late to PT quickly realizes that the music "industry" has stolen 20+ years of enjoyment from them. They gots the chops...vs the decades of wholely forgettable Muzak that "they" saturate the market with.
Nice surprise! I think people already informed you on the greatness of Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree so my job is done. You should check out some of his solo work. Steven Wilson - Luminol is a good start (bass orgasm!).
@@TheAlibabatree You're right. Bruford is actually my favorite drummer since I am a huge KC fan. But Gavin is for me one of the best, most musical drummers. Got a lot into Garstka lately and appreciate him very much too!
First, mahalo for doing this one. To me the song is a commentary on the alienation so many people feel when encountering a world that seems meaningless and superficial to them. Many people respond to such a world with medication, which brings its own issues, and I think this number speaks to that. Btw, the album this is from, "Fear of a Blank Planet" is just brilliant. Again, thanks. I just *love* PT. Oh, and if you do "Falling Back to Earth" by Haken (the studio version), in the last six minutes of the song you will transcend time and space.
yeah you pretty much nailed how I felt after listening to the song. And I've been getting a couple Haken requests on this song, can't wait to transcend all that I now know.
BRUH YOU'RE ON A ROLLLLL. I hope you like this song. Its one of my absolute favorites . Edit: ok. So I'm glad you liked it. You're quickly becoming one of my favorite youtubers . You have a great knack for breaking down lyrics and really analyzing a song down to the roots. If you don't mind the proggy long songs, try out this song called Celestial Elixir by Haken. That song is unlike anything you've ever heard before. I guarantee it. I was hooked in the first 10 seconds.
@@JuniioMusic well man, if you liked it I'm telling you, listen to Celestial Elixir by Haken. That song is just... man. Thats probably my favorite song ever. Like , ever haha. But its a long one and its one hell of a journey.
6:54 - OK, I know I'm like two years late to comment, but still. That verse: I simply am not here No way, I... Shut up, be happy Stop whining, please! When I first heard this song, I heard it "No way I should appear happy".And I think he sings is ambigiously enough that it could be interpreted either way. Anyone else had that "misheard lyrics" moment here?
I just discovered your channel today, seen most of your videos one after another and are now one of my favorite reactors out there, clever lyric breakdowns and not over the top reactions. You really deserve more subscriptions (and they will come, keep going). I have a suggestion/request, its a band you probably heard about or been asked to react but probably not the most requested song from them. However its my favourite song from them and a nice bridge from all the prog metal you've been hearing and this band. The song is Ashes In Your Mouth by Megadeth. Megadeth is mainly a thrash band like Metallica (guitarplayer/singer/lyricist/leader Dave Mustaine was a founding member of Metallica but was kicked out of the band) but has touched many metal genres in their songs, and Ashes In Your Mouth is probably the proggiest song they have, and IMHO a perfect introduction to the band and their catalogue. Keep going man!
Thanks for the comment and the support, I really appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying the videos too haha. I'll add your suggestion to my to-do list \m/
Nice reaction, man! Hoping that you can react to Steven Wilson - The Holy Drinker. So many great moment in that song. Would like to see your feedback on it.
So if I had to pick two bands that should tour together for the perfect show it would be MGLA and Batushka, so if you don't know check out Batushka Yektenyia I. Shit I might have spelt that wrong. You'll get it.
One thing I really liked about your video is that you made yourself small and the video big. Almost all of the reaction videos make the video they're reacting too small and themselves big. I think you need to stop the music less hold some of your comments so that you, yourself, can stay in the groove of the song more
Sorry QueenBee, I uploaded a Type O Negative video today but it immediately got blocked worldwide :/ That just happens sometimes, not much I can do about it. If you've got any other favorite artists I'd be happy to hear them!
Juniio total bummer- I only pushed it because I seen another reactor do it and it stayed up. Did you like it? I hope so. Thanks for doing it though man, I appreciate it. 🙏
@@QueenBee-py3ks yeah TH-cam can be finnicky sometimes. But I loved it! I'd heard a couple of their songs before so I knew what to expect, but my favorite aspect still is the lead singer's vocals - they just fit the goth rock aesthetic so perfectly. (I listened to Love You To Death). So thank you for the suggestion, I still had a great time listening to the song :)

Completely agree. Gavin does not seem to get the love I think he deserves. I am a huge Rush fan and love Peart but I love Harrison also.
"Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" is another masterpiece from this band
Yep. Muzak. Trains. Halo. The list is endless
"This very depressing" Welcome to Porcupine Tree

Steven Wilson was granted the title “King of Progressive Rock”.
Great Porcupine Tree reaction! They are one of my favorite bands. I appreciate you guys that take the time to react to them.
This song was one of those songs that gave me those goosebumps you only get when a song is really special. Absolute masterpiece.

You should check out Bonnie the Cat. Gavin Harrison rocks the drums in that tune.

its the dynamic range of PTs music that gets me. It's extreme, but never comes across as forced, it works every single time

Go for
