Really love your little history lessons! It’s funny, in the UK you’d rarely see a Cuba Libre made with Cuban Rum. They get all fancy. But Hav 3 is hard to beat. It’s kinda what I grew up on.
The Cuba Libre is my new favourite drink. Just came here to see I made it the right way, and I did. Cheers from Finland (where it's a super long and very hot summer), definitely the right year for Cuba Libre. 😎
love this vid! we use calypso brand rum for the smooth taste + $ affordability, and to honor my carribean heritage. thank you for the detailed breakdown.
At university this was my drink of choice, but after one night just thinking about the drink makes me feel bad; hahahaha I still love rum, but Cuba Libre still feels like a challenge to get back to. Awesome video by the way. Cheers!
@@boozeontherocks I think we all have one that once the damage is done, that's it. It's great in the cocktail world there are quite some other options still.
Havaña is the shit. 100% best choice of rum for the easiest cola-drinks out there! *edit* also the choice of cola makes the difference, just like you said it. I've heard many US citizen import the Mexican cola, because the sugar does NOT made from corn!
Yes a lot off people like prefer the taste of the Mexican version of coke a cola because the use a different sugar. I know one person who told me that is is less gassy too.
@@boozeontherocks what other rums can I use besides cuban rum? And which do you recommend is the best for this simple cocktail? Or other rum based cocktails
@@jacobmorales1283 That depends on you. tastes. and rum that you like. although I might stay with white or gold rums. As any rum you use will adjust the flavour. I suggest if you have more than one rum at home, try them out see which one you like best.
@BoozeOnTheRocks I'm new to rum (sort of). I had captain morgan, which i didn't like only because it tasted artificial to me. What would you recommend for first-time beginners.
I'm wondering how many of you guys left a comment after getting drunk (because you totally misjudged how strong Cuba Libre can be) like me? Hell, I surely did🤪😵😴
kind of amused me when he said "The first thing that I smell is the lime, the rum, and the Cola". Well, those are the ingredients, what else could you have smelled?

Thank you. i have noticed a bunch of recipes that add extras to keep it fancy and special. ie angostura. Bacardi was the thing here.
Yes, but you're also supposed to use Cuban mint crushed together in hands. According to old formula
Cuba 🇨🇺 libre is a great drink man. Definitely takes you to the Caribbean.
Thank you. I it really good.
This is one of my personal favorites. In fact, any time I have any type of rum and coke, I add extra lime to make it a "Cuba Libre". Love the lime!
The lime really does set it apart.
...sounds Caribbean ...love wild bird, ... and Dark & Stormy...
Such an important drink, more today than ever! FREE CUBA
Yes!
Your written instructions are perfect, 2 parts Coca Cola to 1 part rum. Awesome drink. Sometimes for a twist I will use lemon instead of lime.
Thank you. It is really good. I love these on a hot day.
I lov making my cuba Libre with Vanilla Coke..it's amazing. Hello from Miami Florida >> I'm Cuban
That is a great way to make one of these.
We're going to Cuba in June 21st wedding anniversary, thank you for the recipe
Your welcome. Let me know the different variations that you come across.
This has me dreaming about warmer weather! I would love to be drinking one of these on the beach right now.
Me too.

Thanks for stopping in. I'm glad you liked it. It is perfect for the weather that we have been having this year.
I prepare it with a Captain Morgan gold spiced rum and the ratio between the rum and the Coca Cola is 3 to 1 . Works well .
That sounds really good, I will try it out.
Wow! Never knew the backstory on this one. Thanks!
Your welcome.
love this vid! we use calypso brand rum for the smooth taste + $ affordability, and to honor my carribean heritage. thank you for the detailed breakdown.
I have not tried the Calypso yet. I will have to see if I can hunt some down, also I'm glad you liked the video.
Thank you for your every vedio sir I am learning from you
Your welcome. I'm glad they can help.
It does amaze me that something as simple as lime juice can elevate a rum and coke so much
Have you tried a capt morgan with sprite and a lime? Crazy what that does.
@@carl_busch I'm gonna try that!
@@carl_busch Oh???
let me know how it turns out.
Lime does give it that special something.
I usually go dark rum with my Cuba Libre.. I like the Havana Club 7 yr old! Cheers David!
That sounds good

@@TheTribalBarGuy Yes, there are a few other good cocktails to work with :)
Kraken Black Spiced Rum is my rum of choice. It isn't a Cuban rum, but its flavor profile works extremely well in this drink
That does work well I agree.
Awesome very nice and tasty drink, keep it up, loved it big thumbs up stay blessed n connected dear 😊!
Thank you very much. I will.
It has that classic cocktail formula: liquor(rum)+sour component(lime)+sweet component(coke)
Its a great template and a great cocktail.
What sets it apart from rum and coke other than the lime is the amount of rum used. You need more of it than coke.
It is the lime and Cuban rum.
Barrcadi rum all the way, having some rigth now!! lol, great video and thank you captin russell
It is a great drink.
Mix it with the don Papa rum very good. Greets from Germany.
Thank you for the idea, Its great to have you here.
I love a good cuba libre, solid fun drink!
Thank Cam. It was really good.
Cuban rum is still near impossible to find in the States. I've personally never had it thought I've had a few cuban cigars. lol. Classic cocktail!
Everytime I go to Mexico or some other country I take advantage of Duty Free and buy a couple of bottles of Havana 3 and 7
Its great, The run does help to make it! You can use a Bacardi for sure.
I have to do that the next time I do some traveling.
yeah the embargo...damn you guys are missing out on so much good stuff!
Everytime I drink this, I think of that 1 scene in the movie Cocktails. LOL
Wasn't that Tom Cruise's first movie???
@@TheSpiritoftheCocktail the outsiders, risky buiness, legend, and top gun where all before. I'm probably still missing others

Thanks for sharing the back story on this cocktail!

Wowza!! I want!! This is an exciting cocktail!!
Its got some like to it. That's for sure.
I love mine with mint
The mint is a good addition, I will have to try that,
In international cocktail cuba libre is dark rum or white rum??
It totally depends on you and the rum you use. If you can get Cuban Rum try that. Otherwise use what you like.
Iconic drink for sure!
That it is.
on christmas i used malibu rum and it was popping
Which kind? The Coconut?
Thanks for thias.
I'm glad you liked it.
Try doing a Classic Mojito. My favorite drink!
Great Suggestion.

What I really want to know is…..
Where do I get swords for my bar?😂😂😂
That depends on the type of swords you want. I purchased mine from an antique dealer.
great information!
Thank you!
Try with old monk rum
i will have to see if i can find some.
ku-ba li bray :P
My bad. Thank you.
Ok but at what part do I add the cocaine(assuming I hypothedically had some)?
Cuban Rum or Don Q must be use.
I agree Jose.

Definitely not a Rum & Coke, that's not near as sexy as the Cuba Libre.
So true, and this has sexy all over it.
Talk to much

Is being Canadian why you can't pronounce the drink right?
Probably.
I wish I could get the real Havana Club in my 'hood.
Around here it's the Puerto Rican replacement. Do you wear sleeveless flannels on vacation?
I should but generally no. Well maybe..
