Tesla "Systems Are Powering Up" Warning Message

  • Today I received the warning message "Systems Are Powering Up - Press Brake When This Message Clears" on my 2015 Tesla Model S 85D. The main center display screen was also black/dead.
    I walk you through a few things to try before calling Tesla service. Apparently this is related to the power management feature in the car's software.
    First off, wait around 5 minutes to see if the message just goes away and the system reboots. If it doesn't, try leaving the vehicle, locking the doors and leaving for 5 minutes. Then come back and try again. If it still doesn't work, try rebooting the main screen by pressing and holding both scroll wheels on the steering wheel for 10-20 seconds.

      well the whole "get out and get back in" reminded me of the windows joke. I wonder if hibernates over sleep which sleep would be quicker but consumes power whereas hibernate would poweroff but slower to boot.
      maybe needs a reverse engineer to crack that thing ;)

    First off, I have seen the "powering up" screen a few times in my Model S, and usually it takes only seconds to clear. But recently I have seen a few reports of this occurring shortly after people received a recent software update, and it happened to me.
    In my case, a few days ago after installing 17.26.17, it took only 20 seconds or so until I was able to shift into D, but the center screen stayed dark. The center screen stayed dark after I was able to start the car. So I drove off and rebooted the main screen with the two steering wheel scroll buttons. It re-started the way it usually does, no problem since. You can safely drive without the main screen. So even if this was a bit startling, it turned out to be no-never-mind.

    I had same problem today with that message & for past three days, but didn't have time to call Tesla so drove my old spare car. I just watched this & read comments. Pushed the two scroll control buttons on steering wheel & that worked. Had to be a little patient for screen to come on, then screen said there will be a software update today. Will deal with that later. I just had the car in for service a couple days ago to repair a tire. They also had to recalibrate suspension. Wonder if this message had something do with that. Message came on morning after the service. Just glad it works now. ( hopefully won't get stranded anywhere)Thanks for all the suggestions.

    Have you had to do any follow up with Tesla on this? I have a 2015 85D, almost 4yo with 48000km. Having the same issues, also had main screen locking up (won't respond to touch) and rebooting by itself while driving. I've done lots of resets, factory reset, taken it in to Tesla Melbourne Australia twice. They just keep telling me they can't find anything wrong, and to keep monitoring it. They suggested it may be due to one of our key fobs being faulty, as it had damage to the cover, so I bought a new one from them. They also said to press the voice command button and say "Note" each time there's a problem so they can find it in the vehicle logs. I've now removed the Pin to Drive security, as it's prevented me from driving a couple of times now. The fault is still happening. It would be interesting to hear how you went. Cheers.

      same thing is happening or happened to my 2015 P90D Ludicrous today. First time ever, never had an issue before. I tried resetting using the buttons and it worked, but then came back after stopping elsewhere, and wouldn't start, said it can't detect key so it won't drive. So I did another reset, and it worked. So strange. First time ever, can't replicate the problem.

    • @InternetDude
      @InternetDude  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem rarely reoccurs for me. It hasn’t got worse so I haven’t mentioned it to Tesla service. Now that the car is out of warranty I have my fingers crossed that the issue stays very random and seldom.

    • @desparky
      @desparky 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InternetDude At least you have video evidence of it happening prior to the warranty expiring. I would definitely follow it up with Tesla though. Another tip the service technician told me was to keep both trip A and B meters reset, as they use memory. I'm concerned it is the EMMC flash memory in the screen's video card (google Tesla emmc). Rich Rebuilds did an episode on it: th-cam.com/video/o-7b1waoj9Q/w-d-xo.html Cheers.

    The key here seems to be the length of time holding the scroll wheels, at least in software 9.0. Everything I've ever been told has been to hold the scroll wheels until the "T" appears when doing a restart. I was having no joy with that approach. I didn't wait a lot because I had to leave, but rebooted the system (press the two scroll wheels on the wheel for a few seconds) When the central display came up and the computer booted, I was good to go. I'm not 100% sure if the reboot solved the issue or if it solved on it's own during the time of the boot, but it doesn't cost anything to try.

    Friends, after the last software update last week via WiFi I really need your help. I have been in Greece for a week, hoping the update would finish while I was gone, the car was plugged into the charger, 220V, 8Amp. Yesterday I came back and found out that the screen is black. A note behind the steering wheel: call the service station. they told me: The update went wrong. I need to do a reset: press both little scoll wheels on the steering wheel at once and the software will reset, pressing the brake at the same time will reset to factory settings. I did all that: Nothing happened, except a notice to unlock the car, or unplug it. The screen stayed black, and the stick shift does not work. It is stuck in Park position. The doors and the dome lights work, charge port is blue. German road side assistence told me to contact the nearest service station, which is in Hamburg, 120km North, on monday. I might have to get my car there physically, by a towing company on my expense, although I did not request a software update. Tesla forced it onto my car! I could borrow a car trailer from a friend, but how to get a Tesla with the brakes in park onto it. It cannot get lifted either cause its in my car port, under a roof. HELP HELP HELP. Thtere is no connection to the car via the Tesla app either. Anyone any idea?

Reboot by using the scroll buttons as described but continues to occur every 10 minutes. If the car is parked and off and you return after more than 20 minutes it acts exactly as described here. Doesn't matter if you exit and lock or just wait a few minutes in the car to try and start again,. results are the same as it will start again but the screen must be rebooted. Teslas have a FUCK TON of computer systems inside them. Just about everything is ran by independent computers, and you rely on the fact that none of those computer systems will go wrong, it's just too much to ask. these cars are WAY more complicated then they have to be, I'm not sure why they do that. Simplifying the design (using less computers, maybe rely more on mechanical parts) would not only reduce cost, but it would make them more reliable as well.

      The Model 3 is simplified compared to the Model S. Tesla is learning 😉. Other gas car automakers have sometimes 50 or more body control modules so they really aren’t any better, they are worse in many cases.
