Ive done some amp repairs. Usually its after market amps. People hook them up wrong or do not tune them right and end up blowing them. Then I would fix them and tell them to check their wiring and settings. Then they blow it again and accuse me of not fixing it right. So, I really scaled back on repairing them. There are a lot of people out there that think you can just hook them up and go. Thank heaven this is a factory amp.
Hi. Shorted or burnt speaker will short that chip.replacing it will stop the battery drain.but before installing check the impedance on that speaker otherwise it will short that ic out again.nice video and diagnostic
btw, my friends who repair only audio systems complain that our chinese "brothers" make a lot fake transistors and audio chips. So if you buy one of these no one know what will happen.
@@Anachronos1 I seriously doubt that. I don't think semiconductor chips like this are ever cloned. The people in Hong Kong are probably chip brokers that have access to the remaining stock in the world. I don't have full knowledge, I am just telling you what I think.
@@User2718218 Search it on TH-cam and you will be surprised badly. They make fake copy almost on any transistor and some chips who are used in audio systems.
TDA1565TH is the chip you need good luck finding it! also this amp is a class AB. I would swop the chip with the one next to it just to see because the fault could be with pin 2 mode/standby/operating mode circuit.
this is an interesting one please DO update us, especially if you are planning any dodgy stuff with the board if you put the channels of 2 speakers in series one with the other, would the amp be able to drive both?
Those chips are likely in standby, but the damaged one is shorted to the rails. Bad speaker maybe. I would not experement with that amplifier, it could become an expensive mistake :-(
Yes check the cars speakers, then look for a used amplifier from a scrap dealer and rob the chip. Or like Sorin suggested talk to the customer about not having that speaker in circuit.
@@NicuRO91 Why not just use isopropyl alcohol? It's cheap and can be purchased at any drugstore. Most people already have it to clean flux off the PCB. Also it leaves no residue on the board.

New to electronic work/repair and have been learning a lot from your channel so thank you for that. What temps do you hot air? I saw your video on your old tool for manual hot air which was great and I know everything you said in that video about the hotter the faster the better but I seem to have a hard time. I hot air @ 390c full ait power and it still seems that the parts take a long time to come off. Not like yours as they seem to pop right off. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again and keep up the amazing work.
I have a high suspicion the installed speaker was flooded with liquid, as water damage that led to a condition as constant to ground.... short. I would be very curious as to operation via reinstall in end use. Was that as to an automobile? I hold the view, install of a new chip would be shown to new, unprotected ground and subsequent 2nd chip fail. I think a clear, repair as to device would be to cite, the potential for high heat, as to a consuming fire. Replacement of chip demanding discard of speaker . *replacement.(also)/ What an interesting repair problem. Please mention how the job was finished to customer need. M.
Most IC's in automotive stuff is masked so searching for information on them is rather difficult. BMW especially has a lot of custom made stuff you cant really get anywhere. If its not masked is almost always obsolete. Aliexpress sometimes if you get lucky but if its not a commonly failing chip like injector drivers then even if you find one its probably something else and just labeled with what you want.
Round of applause matey ! Bl**dy car electronics. Cheap and nasty construction and bad circuit design but high replacement prices ! I got a failed motorised temperature flap on a Skoda Fabia ventilation system . . drains the battery in two weeks. To change the ventilation flap motor, which itself costs £70 !, will involve removing a fair bit of the dashboard and cost £500 ! My solution, take out the fuse and, also, oddly, the diagnostic socket fuse . . . battery drain gone !
Hi.it most probably shorted the pins causing the ic to get hot at below800 m.a.That will drain the battery in couple hours time.its like leaving a light on in your car.drop in voltage will drain the battery esp overnite
Sir, one question, and i cant help not to ask you this one. What was your College course? You seem to know everything about electronics. I hope you can answer back, as Im planning to follow your footsteps. Thanks.
Disconnect or bypassed that factory amp, suggest the owner to upgrade to aftermarket 5 channel type of amp and the rest of the front and rear 2 ohms speakers to 4 ohms..
Aftermarket 4 ohm bridgable amplifiers can handle 2 ohms easily. Problem would be other circuitry inside BMW amp, original headunit might not turn on without it. But tda1565 inputs could be connected to outside amplifiers inputs. Building it, so it looks decent is not worth it probably..
You are the only TH-camr that when publishes a video I have to watch immediately. And you grab all my attention. Thank you.
Two videos per day from Sorin - what can be better?Thank you!
what about three videos per day ? :)

Thank you for your insight on audio amps, you're years of experience is priceless for us techs.
Sir.... before I even finish watching the video... thank you.
From Trinidad and Tobago.
I have not seen a video from you yet that I have not watched all the way to the end. Love it! Keep em coming!
Thanks sorin, some new appliance for us to learn.
Thanks you legend.
These BMW cars have Bose speakers on them, so this amplifier may well be a Bose high spec amplifier too. Great videos, Sorin!
BOSE on BMW comon mate i never see . probably is harman /kardon
I believe they are Harmon in BMW and Bose in Audi. Both pretty advanced systems with DSP.
Hello Sorin
Yes watching you everyday from indian Ocean
Mr. Sorin's boss please buy him thermal cam, please, please. Invest little bit in this man's work. Or at least buy him hand burn cream :)
Thank You for always sharing your expertise Sir Sorin!
Watching sir, from the Philippines.

2 videos back on back, yes!
16:30 TDA1565 supply voltage is ~14v. it powers directly from the battery, thats why it drains current even with main power inverter turned off .
So constant power from battery, then when this part fails, battery gets drained.
Logic, thx
Nice repair video
Sorin, it looks like TDA1565TH is available out of Hong Kong on eBay.

What are you talking about they are all over ebay. even some of the Bose sound docks contain them.
Great tuition. Are you a qualified technician
Looks like pin2 controls the mode of the chip, perhaps pin 2 is shorted?
Great video, waiting for the update, i hope the customer wants it fixed xD
I’m still working on a thermo cam for ya my friend.
Thank you oh engineer

please DO update us, especially if you are planning any dodgy stuff with the board
if you put the channels of 2 speakers in series one with the other, would the amp be able to drive both?
yes but probably it have an output problem. each speaker would get 1 ohm each (parallel) and he says the minimum is 2ohms
you can do a BTL and have almost twice the power
BD electronics, not sure if they have a min order but they have 12k in stock. These were discontinued in 2009 I believe.
Is there a short between the sense pin and 12V
keep up the good work
exactly what i was thinking, where do you start, what direction.

Check the cabeling also! Often the cable is shorted to Car ground. This will destroy the amplifier!
what is that liquid you poured on the chip at 11:53 ?
That's Zippo lighter fuel fluid. You can get it online.

Aliexpress has the tda1565th for sale
I have seen same IC audio into the Bose 321 models, maybe can help you to find part for fix it, regards
The amplifier has a separate power supply. The amplifier is switched on by the RAD_ON signal from the radio (> 8 V = ON / < 6 V = OFF).

cool. problem caught right away. all it took was a brunt finger : )
Hi Sorin, Is it possible that the chip is still ok, but a surrounding capacitor has shorted?
No.
He took out the chip and the problem dissapeared, end story.
When one is blowup then the output is being wrong. One speaker making a short ? Like you show a little burnt connector pin.?
JBL had the same problem in my '96 Town Car stock radio
Battery post disconnect switch was my dummy fix 😂
