@@adrienneclifford9509I’m not sure he is ready for it. He will lose his mind trying to figure out what’s going on lol but that’s the song that got me hooked on TOOL back in 1997. 🌀
It might blow your mind to find out this song is structured around the Fibonacci sequence. The syllables start with 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3. Maynard follows this in different parts of the song. Also, the musical count can be expressed by the Fibonacci sequence as well. You can do a deep dive into this song alone :)
People often mention about the first verse and this part of the sequence. It goes beyond this though. The syllables Maynard sings in the first verse follow the first six numbers in the pattern, ascending and descending in the sequence 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3. "Black (1), then (1), white are (2), all I see (3), in my infancy (5). Red and yellow then came to be (8), reaching out to me (5). Lets me see (3) This repeats. Maynard then begins the prechorus with the seventh number of the Fibonacci sequence (13), implying a missing verse in between. He descends back down with the following pattern; 13-8-5-3. "As below so above and beyond I imagine (13). Drawn beyond the lines of reason (8). Push the envelope (5). Watch it bend (3)." The second verse adds the missing line to complete the sequence; "There is (2), so (1), much (1), more that (2), beckons me (3), to look through to these (5), infinite possibilities (8)." 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3-2-1-1-2-3-5-8-13-8-5-3. There's also the time signatures 9/8, 8/8, 7/8. 987 is one of the numbers further along the sequence like you mentioned. The length of the verses are a number in the sequence. The moment he starts singing is at 1:37 which is 1.68 minutes the golden ratio that expresses the spiral when you tile the plane. Polyphonic has great video that breaks it all down including more than just this.
The instrumentation is done first, and then they give it over to Maynard for lyrics. It boggles my mind that anyone could find lyrics that are not only compatible with such complex compositions, but are also deep and meaningful. Pure genius.
No competition intended here. But the only example I can think of that meets the same criteria, is Radiohead. They are to Pink Floyd, what Tool is to Led Zeppelin.
Bold choice for a 2nd Tool song to listen to 👍 Some other good introductory songs I'd suggest are "46&2", "Vicarious" or "Sober"... Tool can have some pretty technical music, so starting off with some more 'simple songs' (by their standard) is easier to get your feet wet with their music.
Loved your reaction! If you want to see expert Danny on the drums you have to watch the Pnuema -Drum Cam done by Vic Firth. I have to many favorites to list but The Grudge, 46 and 2 and Swamp Song are good next ones. Spiral Out 🌀
Please give the whole Tool catalogue a listen and the Tool Army will continue to support your channel. It's life changing music. Much more dense and meaningful than the average band. It's much more than "just a band" a band to many of us actually.
The colors are literally like babies start to see the world. First we only see black and white (dark and light), the first colors we recognize are red and yellow. The other colors come in later.
No. Not at all. Tool vibe does that to people. But thst Chakra Chart is what Tool is vibing to. Using sounds of music to connect to the Chakras. You are feeling right about the song. Great Reactions!!!
Admiral of the Tool navy here ( lesser known branch of the tool armed forces lol) they made this song with the idea of a song that sounded like it was collapsing in on itself… think of that for a second lol…. Yes you felt it… Tool affects you on a molecular level…. Check out right In two soon…👍
Oh we KNOW you ain’t lyin. That song can literally make my head spin. And I get goosebumps. It’s a joy to watch your journey beginning. Danny, the drummer, is the GOAT. No joke. It’s like he’s lived a dozen past lives and was a drummer in a different part of the world in each one. Now we are blessed to witness the culmination of aaaaaaalllll of those lives in the drummer he is today. Yeah Maynard has, strong, opinions on religion. kind of hard to deny with songs like Judith form his other band, perfect circle. But as far as I know, it's more on blind faith and religion as an organization he has a problem with.
No bc this band is just that good. It makes you feel. It makes you feel everything all at once you get what you need from it. Every-time you listen to it where you are in life is what you see and what you get from every song. Its beyond music its spirit, mind, body and soul. Leanr about the Fibonacci sequence. This song was designed around it. His lyric cadence is literally in syllables in order of this mathematical sequencez not inly do the lyrics make perfect sense it is literally flowing along with this sequence. This song is a literal masterpiece.
This whole song is built on the Fibonacci Sequence (AKA "The Golden Ratio") that occurs throughout nature. An example of it would be a snail's shell. p.s. Don't worry about stopping and talking. Most of us are here to see and hear you react, we can listen to the song anytime we want. p.p.s It's pronounced May-nerd.

Songs that showcase the talent of the individual members well, in my opinion are: Maynard James Keenn/vocals-The Grudge, Justin Chancellor/bass-Descending, Adam Jones/guitar-7empest.
