I never think art supplies used are wasted. Mastery is gained through repetition. You have to make lots of bad art to get better. So, I am really glad you switched to your favorite materials!!!! I'm a big believer in "use the good china." I mean if you've watched Miranda try to use up just one of her many, many watercolor palettes -- it's taken well over a year and still isn't gone -- you know that paint isn't the big thing you use up, it's the paper. Most of us watching watercolor channels probably have more paint than we can use up in our lifetimes! I do find that when I paint large, I do use a lot more paint, so that might be a good use for them.
Waterfall! My favorites were all the water paintings, and then 13 and 15 which were quite dynamic. I love that you thought about just tossing off a whole sketchbook of florals just to seem "productive," or complete the challenge in an extra impressive way. Some of what people do these days to "challenge" themselves is quite superficial. You decided to use the opportunity for deep learning. I love how you just went through your folder without deciding! Just painting them all!
@@SketchesnScrubs Oh I've dabbled in nearly every art form -- but last year I came back to watercolors after about 25 years! But I didn't know a THING about them back then. Now thanks to folks like you I can get a great education. I just got some gouache, and I'm very inspired by your gouache landscapes! I want to do landscapes and they are harder than they seem. I also love doing loose florals and right now I've been painting peaches since they are in season. I try to sketch my cats but I am sooo bad at it!
@@SketchesnScrubs Oh and mostly I just do loose abstracts, I try to do some of that every day, super low pressure. I try not to think of it as art but just a journal. You know, lower the stakes! In this vein I've been painting and journaling with both hands. Sometimes both at once - two brushes!
Waterfall - I really like all of your waterfalls! Miranda had a fun challenge and brought very talented folks together for the challenge - glad you were a part of it
Wow, this was spectacular, Sketches! I'm so impressed that you were able to accomplish so much in the 10 hours. I don't think I can pick a favorite because they are all amazing in their own way. I guess if you forced me to choose one, it would be the desert scene, but that's probably because I love the desert! Thank you SO much for joining the collaboration - this was great fun!
“Waterfall!”… can’t imagine sitting for 10 hours to do anything. Kudos to you, and your determination!! Loved your art, thank you for posting!! 🥰🤩👍🏾💜👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🪅 My favs are:,#1, #2, #5, #6, #10, #15, #18, #23. ♥️💜🪅
Waterfall! Thank you for sharing your process during the 10-hour challenge. Sorry, I could not decide on just one that I liked. Every single piece had a personality all its own. When it comes to a real time video, number 5, 15 or 21.
Wow 24 complete paintings. They’re all very detailed & gorgeous with all the varieties of colors. I definitely would love to see more of the Malta boat 🚤 & the two Waterfalls. It is really hard to just pick a favorite. Have a great rest of the week!
A veritable waterfall of art!! Will add more but I’m still watching the premiere lol! I loved the waterfall spread (second to last spread). You’re amazing to have done SO many paintings!! I love your art, it has really developed so much and I can’t believe how awesome these all were!! That canoe one actions my absolute favorite. It’s so funny that I did basically no landscapes and you did florals and landscapes for 22!! You are AMAZING!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can not express how much this talk has inspired me and connected to me...wow...I'm blown away because I think you just described every single thought in my own head. How did you do that!! I've been searching for 7 years for someone like me!!!! I sketched along with you the entire video (as proof...i love painting waterfalls too!!) ...I have so much to gush about 🥰☺️.. I'm a fan for life!
Waterfall!! I live in Australia and have recently moved to a country town. I think for my 10 hours, I would prep by walking around my new town taking pictures of the farms, animals, old sandstone buildings and houses. This would be a good way to get to know where I live a little better and stretch my skills with a variety of subjects.
Waterfall.😁 I think 8 and 14 are my favorites! Well done with your challenge! I've been toying with the idea of a marathon session lately. Your video comes at a great time. Thank you!
I use acrylic paint. I love the liquitex basics acrylic paint. I love to paint on cartboard instead of paper cause its cheaper for me. I paint allot of crystals and things whit magic and fantasy elements😀👋🏾👍🏽🎨
Waterfall! Sketches, you impressed me so much, I finished watching this and just sat there all mindblown and thinking for 10 minutes how can one create over 20 art pieces (not sketches!) in just 10h and then say “I couldn’t get into the flow state” when to me it’s clear you must have because how else did you do such incredibly beautiful paintings! I feel like a big impostor now, because 10h can be a sketch and cleanup for me, it takes days easy, but I wish I could be as quick, fearless and efficient as you! Sketches, you are truly fantastic, you can proudly call yourself a Gouache and landscapes expert now! I hope this was as much fun for you creating all these babies as it was for us watching! Btw, my favorite was 24!
Love the waterfalls, and the dry brush and rough strokes experiments. Also the use of the ‘precious’ art supplies. I’m going to have to break some of mine out.
This is absolutely amazing! I loved watching your entire process. Congrats for finishing. After watching your Kew Garden video, I notice you have a talent for waterfalls. My favorite paintings are 21 and 22, 22 being my favorite. I love your use of greens! The colors pop and make me smile. I couldn't paint for 10 hours, but if I did, I'd paint landscapes with watercolors. I also love how you gave yourself and us permission to use our good supplies. I often need to hear that. Thank you.
I like your paintings that remind me of stone litho posters from the 1930s. I have old luggage stickers from that era and love that look. Also reminds me a little of Fairfield Porter paintings which I discovered via Sandi Hester.
Waterfalls! 🌊 wow!!!! Incredible journey watching this makes me want to paint so badly now!! I haven’t painted with gouache in over two years!!! This is very tempting haha Beautiful work I can definitely see your progress!!! The boat and purple cactus were my favorite 💜💚💜💚
What a fun challenge you all joined in on! Though the waterfall was beautiful, I really enjoyed 3, 4 and 14. Not sure why, but those just caught my eye the most.
Waterfall. I’m not sure I could get through so many paintings in 10 hours. I do have an inspiration folder on my phone, so maybe. These were amazing! I might try this challenge. 😊I loved #6 and 23. I would love to see a video on 23.
Waterfall 😍 whar sn amount of great paintings! I think my own "paint for a long time" (maybe not 10 hours though lol) challenge would include watercolour and acrylics 😊
Waterfall. I’m impressed by your stamina. I don’t think I could have done it. It looks like your gouache goes a long way. You didn’t have to use up too much for all that art created. I can’t choose a favorite but 17, 13, 18& 22 are among my top choices.
Wow, they are awesome landscapes! I cannot choose only one fav, sorry... I like many of them: 5, 6, 18, 20, 21, 22 and 24... Nice colours and brush strokes! Keep going on!
I like all of the waterfall paintings, but my favorite is the cactus with the pops of extra colors!! I can't believe how much you got done in ten hours!! Great job!
Waterfall - feeling inspired! I’m just learning the gouache process and really learning to love it, so you’ve really helped me gain some ideas to move forward. All of your paintings are truly lovely!!
Waterfall! Wow. Just wow. 10 hours?! You managed to paint quite a collection of beautiful pieces!! I found it really hard to pick my favourites. I love landscapes, so I naturally was drawn to those pieces. 5 and 7 were my initial favourites from your insta story, but when I watched the video, I really fell in love with 21 and 22 (I think those were the numbers of the 2 side by side waterfalls near the end). I’m not sure how I would tackle a challenge like that. I’m sure I’d do a number of landscapes with some ink and wash thrown in. I think your approach of working your way through a reference folder was a good idea. I’d lose a fair bit of time with my initial sketches. Deciding what to paint would be half the battle. Enjoyed seeing what your chose and how you approached it! (I’m glad to see you switched to your favourite supplies so you could enjoy the challenge more. You *definitely* deserve to use your supplies!!)
Yikes! 10 hours! I would love that though I can’t imagine having that amount of time available from family stuff. Have you considered listening to music while you paint? I swear, I totally loose track of time when I draw and paint with music in my head (headphones). Smart to get rid of the clock! All of the paintings are amazing. WATERFALL! It’s such a challenge to paint them. Jerry Harrison teaches how to paint them without gauche over watercolor but it’s so HAAAARRRDDD to do. Sometimes, I work on two paintings at a time (one on each page of a spread in a sketchbook) to let the paint dry. I also think it’s hard to judge a painting immediately after you finish. I find I like my paintings a couple days after I’ve finished. LOL! 5, 15 and 23 are my favorite paintings.
I also commend you for you dedication, truly beautiful pieces of art created! I could not do a 10 hour challenge, would probably come out with one painting if I'm lucky 😂😂
I personally love gouache! And for me the HimI/Miya is best. The low cost and way they work actually are among my favourites. This has led to me painting much more and more enjoyably as the cost is so low. I also make much larger paintings using the HimI/Miya. Sometimes I just can’t get past the mental block of cost and so almost never use some materials but I have been improving and actually using my most valuable ones. Still personally I actually genuinely love the way the HimI/Miya gouache feels, looks and works so win win for me! I’ve invested in a lot and paint just as much as I always desired now!
Just love this video!!!! What a brilliant idea! And lovely work you have managed to create in 10 hours!!!! Kudos! I think I should challenge myself too.....maybe I will do it and share my stuff with you then ☺️ Thanks for inspiring us!!!! 🤗
Waterfall. Love this video, seeing the progression of your work and especially the gouache which I have a lot of trouble with. Three quarters of them are favorites, so hard to pick. Practice practice practice I guess. A great challenge for that reason. Take care.
wow 24 paintings in 10h!! i would've struggle the same as you being restless at some point and i find it difficult to overcome so i let distraction do its thing lol my faves are all the waterfall painting and the cactus one where you used unusual colours!
Waterfall! I just found your channel and your waterfall paintings are my favourite! Moutains are something I paint the most and I've started to notice that I also want to paint more waterfalls. Your landscape paintings have inspired me!🌟My other faves are: 7, 13,15, 18, 22 and 27! I want to be more creative now that I'm ending uni. I'm considering trying this 10 hour challenge!
I have never used gouache. Watching you paint has inspired me to try these paints. I don’t know how to paint. I can draw but I had a fear of color and the fear of not being perfect. I really enjoyed your video so much
I’m looking forward to doing this challenge, I doubt I’ll paint any waterfalls but plan on doing a lot of fun illustrative type animals. ❤ this is an amazing video and you give so many great tips for how to complete this challenge 😊
Theses paintings are beautiful, and the idea of painting fast is a really good one. Idk about 10 hours at a stretch (arthritis), but I might do an hour a day this way as a practice. Perhaps over time it will cure overthinking and overpainting. Cool video. Tnx for sharing.
waterfall.... great video. Thank you! I am new to gouache but love it. I have purchased Winsor Newton but have yet to open it. I am using Turner Designer Gouache and really love it. Hoping to feel more confident with this wonderful paint.
