A spray bar for distributing liquids evenly would improve your granule sizing a lot when mixing powders that absorb liquid quickly. When dumping water in by hand you get areas of high moisture instead of even moisture distribution.
The structure of berries is formed because growth occurs mainly by impact between nearby particles. Growth processes due to layering and fracture/abrasion, which produce more spherical shapes, are inhibited. In addition, the presence of blackberry forms indicates that the granulation humidity is not very high, there are no chemical bonding reactions and the residence time in the granulator is not sufficient to start the growth processes by layering.
The distribution of sizes in the feed must be such that there is a minimum universe of "nuclei" from which growth by layering is prioritized, thereby reducing the time required for granulation and the level of liquid binder used. The SGN of the feed must be between 30 and 35% less than the SGN of the desired product, in low impact processes (disk or drum granulation). The above does NOT apply to fluidized bed granulation.
Drum granulators are also used when granulation (the principles of agglomeration and atomic bonding) requires a longer chemical reaction time. It usually has, inside, small lifters and a rough surface, to improve the degree of mixing, the density of the granules and its spherical shape.
The Eirich mixer granulator also has the quality that anti-dust coatings can be added in the form of eutectic mixtures of molten salts, obtaining grains free of pointed surface shapes (sequins), notably reducing the abrasion phenomena that usually generate environmental dust in the bulk handling of granulated product.
using hot slighty acidic water works, no binders. but the powder needs to be slightly soluable. you just need to slow down the evaporation by doing it in a crock pot.
