Hey YAMAHA, why cant you reintroduce a modernized XT-500 like this one ? And even smaller displacement models as well that aren't plagued with problems like the newer models are !
Ride an XT500 1U6 also from 1980. Upgraded the forks and electrics to 12V as well. In Germany it's a little difficult to get sometimes even minor modifications road legal and as everything is also a question of money, I still ride the original swingarm. But hey, it's a nice build you realised here. Congrats for that! Big 👍🏾
@@Flaffi78 well here in Germany TÜV (technical control) is comparably hard. But K&J deliver a swing arm that is already road legal. You have to go to the TÜV to get it registered, but that's actually nit that expensive.
40 years ago my XT had a little white pushknob on the OEM Mikuni carb, that worked better than the choke. (which I hardly ever used, maximum 1 kick). One could rerset this knob by closing the throttle completely. Suppose this had a similar function than the screw you showed on the new carb.
Thanks for watching. I was adjusting the air idle screw. Clockwise increased fuel mixture/flow. I've found it's helpful turning a quarter or so when restarting a hot engine (rather than choking). Cheers,
Having trouble with this phone. A regular mikuni will work the XT came with a 32 and the TT came with the 34 the stock for the XT you got better gas mileage I got about 80 mi to tank a little less than 2 gallons. The only problem I had changing over to different mikuni carb was the I forgot what it was called but the boot that the carb is put on to. Plus you'll have to change the throttle the stock carburetor had a push-pull system the cable mounted outside the Mr XT
It's called a a hot switch. Because it's a four-stroke it takes a little while for it to warm up instead of it popping and stalling it causes the engine to idle higher.. I've owned can't exactly five or six. To change it to 12 volt all you have to do is change the voltage regulator headlight blinker bulbs tail light.
I don't think LED lights are doable with a "simple" regulator conversion, Michael. One would need to use basic 12v AC lighting for that. You'd need a specially wound lighting coil and voltage regulator to provide smooth DC.
I have had the XT up to 120. I had one with Simon forks 12-with triple clamps built for the bike an forks they made two longer sizes of forks but I kept with the 12 because I was driving in the street. So I can keep sometimes I would let the air out of the front forks not all there but some so when I hit corners it would sink down and turn better. It also had work shocks built for the bike for my weight and the banana swing arm from White Brothers what's the number. I could smoke the tire in the street massive torque. Plus I put 2 gold Sun rims on it. Plus a bigger header with a super trap on it.😊 Used to get pulled over all the time. They used to try to tell me that I couldn't drive it in the street but I told him it's an Enduro I bought it that way but I went and changed it all I did was changed the complete suspension but it still was XT they made a TT dirt version of it. Mr XT
They made a street version. Can't remember the name. Have the same engine it also had an extra hose coming from the gas tank to the carburetor for more gas it worked off a diaphragm from the cockpit. The older versions how to speedometer that 100 I believe the 80 and the 81 only went to 85.
You mean the skid plate. I ran mine without never had but it does keep the dirt and mud off with the skid plate on it and I'd go over the railroad tracks that's when it would hit Mr XT 500
Hey Alex, not sure if you've already found it, but search for "Mini Speedometer w/Trip Meter - 2240:60 - MPH" and you'll find it. It's set for 21" front tires, I believe.
Thank you. Why is the decomp lever slightly open? If the intake and exhaust valves don't close all the way (in rotation) you'll loose power and it won't run properly. Cheers,
@@huxmoto I've found if I leave the decomp lever slightly open...it's more likely to start. I suppose a bit if extra fuel gern pumped into exhaust may occur
Check the manual for adjusting valves, sounds like that might help (might be able to reuse the valve cover gaskets if you're careful/soak them in marvel mystery).@@pmacc3557
Hi Darren, All XT600 front ends will swap with special bearings (using the triple from an XT600) form AllBalls or a steering stem swap (using the OEM triple). Speedo hookup will use the OEM pickup from the XT600 (might need a longer cable as the front end will have more travel). Cheers,
@@huxmoto I'm just fighting starting issues with mine 🫣 I put a full Rex's Speedshop CDI 12v LED electric system. Just having hassles getting it running, can't get a good kick start routine 😥
@@laurapeters8686 So you checked for spark first, right? After that, be sure not to flood the carb with choke on more more than a kick or two. I like to kick right as the indicator is showing up (not after or midway in the window). Fuel, air, spark. @huxmoto on Insta if you'd like to msg there.

Yep, good luck if you want to have indicator like this.
And the fork and swingarm would cost me almost 2 thousand just for the paper to be road legal

Great willy bike. Had the XT 550 also.
Nice work.
What front end did you install please?
XT600 front end.

The camera angles and movement looks like a FELLINI movie. Nice bike though.
Building bikes, not in film school. haha. Thanks-ish.
Long live Fellini!

Did you put a CDI ignition on?
How do you find the carb compared to an original
