I was not expecting to be laughing one minute and hit in the feels the next. That place looked truly beautiful, but I don’t think I could put that pressure on my knees to get me there-
As someone who also went on a 8 hour hike that turned into a very steep 12 hour struggle, definitely don’t go on long hikes unless you are in shape for it. You either strength train your legs until you have quads for days and run like you’re training for a 5k or you die. I made the mistake of focusing solely on the 5k part and it was the incline that killed me more than anything. I was at the point of not being able to walk faster than a slow crawl by the end of it and I literally couldn’t walk or stand the next day
After stepping on my foot the wrong way and having to deal with a broken ankle and the anxiety of school this video was a nice breath of fresh air. Thank you Mazz for being willing enough to share your stories and giving people like me a place to turn when life is not the best.
Ngl I teared up seeing the montage at the end the music and you guys hanging out makes me realize that friends always has a end. Friends are people who care about you are proud about you will comfort you will talk to you will share secrets will do anything to make you happy I want people like that in my life. Someday, I really hope I can be like you one day.

This story is bringing back so many memories of when I hike up the tongariro crossing with my scout group and I can relate to everything you said in this, the legs felling like jelly reaching the top only to have to take another 5 hours going back down and running completely out of water.
that montage at the end really made me think of when my freinds and me get older and mabye part ways. It made me cry to think of never seeing them again. But it also reminded me of change. and how it can be good or for the better. so, thank you for reminding me of that.
I actually did this track about eight years ago as well, and I managed to get through relatively unscathed, apart from some scratches I sustained when slipping on some loose soil. It was definitely one of the most beautiful walks of my life, but you really need to be prepared for it. I am a pretty experienced stroller, so that explains why my knees didn’t give way back then😛. Nevertheless it was fun to see you have so much fun with your friends. I wish I had a group of friends like that.
Awww Maaz, I 100% can relate to this. I had extremely similar experiences when I worked in Yellowstone National Park for 3 months. The nostalgia we get from these moments is so powerful!

This reminds me of when I climbed Ben Lomond, showed up wildly unprepared, not the right clothes or anything. We got to the top "Fine" but just after starting the descent my shoe literally crumbled and fell apart, meaning I had to make my way back down without shoes (it was safer to take the other one off) I don't recommend it, always be prepared

Oh man. Yeah that hike is super exhausting but honestly like nothing I've seen before. I did the walk with two ingrown and infected toenails, but worth it. On the walk down when we got to the bit of bush walk I heard my first Long Tailed Cuckoo, which a very ellusive NZ bird. Still yet to actually see one though. Loved the montage at the end showing off some of the beautiful landscapes and scenery. I also saw you got some footage of Black-billed Gulls. They're actually the most threatened species of Gull in the world. Super special to me
You know, it's kind of sad that one person had to be blurred out during the part where everyone is shown to be enjoying the time of their lives despite that being the request she herself made. Makes for a mytery/horror movie plot.

I remember trying to drive to a mountain as a kid and I had a dream I died while climbing. And I even made sure to not climb fast and whaddya know, I almost died climbing it. And I only survived thanks to me crawling instead of climbing normally because I didn't wanna take any chances.

Depth of connection can truly be proportional to the trials survived together, and a climb like that with beauty at the top is the perfect parallel to climbing through med school with colleague/friends 💙 (can relate!) Best to y'all as you confront new heights!
We did a similar hike a few years ago, it took us 3-4 hours to climb up this mountain and only 2 hours to get down. Because we just CHARGED down this mountain, flued by the need to get back to the car. Totally worth it, would do again.
