    I ended up redoing the shot I rattled (both balls froze to the rail, 2 diamonds apart). Aim at the EDGE of the ob. I only use a half tip of left english. Since different cues cause varying cue ball squirt/deflection, you may have to use more english or pick a different point of aim on the object ball (ob).

    “Cheating the pocket” is what you’re doing, the width of the pockets will change things significantly. I play on a few tables with triple shimmed pockets and those dam things you aint cheating much lol

      I understand that completely! Some shots are nearly impossible on super tight tables.

    I've seen a video in which a guy says that for this kind of shots, I should use the spin the spin that is closer to the rail. For the shot you show it's a right (or top-right) spin from your perspective.

    • @Poolology101
      @Poolology101  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want the cb to leave the cushion, as shown in this video, you can't use rail-side spin (right english here) because it will cause the cb to deflect/squirt away from the rail, and you'll miss the shot.
      The only time it might be beneficial to use rail-side english on a shot like this (when the cb and ob are froze to the rail) is when you have several feet between the balls. The reason why is because the spin will initially quirt the cb away from the rail, but then it will swerve back towards the rail after a few feet. Exactly when the cb swerves back towards the rail depends on shot speed - a soft shot will swerve back within a couple of feet, where as a firm shot might take 4 to 6 feet before the cb swerves back.

      2 things that made that shot work that Poolology didn't say or even know himself is
      1: it's about speed, as the first shot he missed he hit so slow , causing the CB and OB to deflect and not go straight. He hit everyone after very much harder, so the OB and CB go straight and no chance to deflect. To know if that method really works you have to hit it very soft and slow which he never did, prob would miss every shot if so.
      2: it's about using inside English, that half a tip of left English makes all the difference, an actual licensed pool instructor teaches this method. This is even more important than hitting them hard to force the OB and CB to go straight as Poology did.
      The licensed pool instructor describes it as using English that follows the CB natural path. So in the shots in this video , the CB would naturally go left, so we use left English. If the CB isn't 3 knches from the OB on the rail like this video, say the CB is all the way by the side pocket or farther making the OB the same place in this video the tips I have will help you make OB from any distance and stuck to any rail.

    These shots are a must have skill because they come up all the time. How many times have you played position to the ball on or very close to the short rail and left yourself straight in versus leaving yourself an angle? And yeah, mastering this shot on a Diamond table is going to be a little tougher.

    Thanks for posting this, Brian! I downloaded "Poology" last week, have read about 3/4 of it, and ran across your videos just the other day. I decided to take a break from the book, and try the shots in this video.
    Being an average player, playing shapes has never been my forte, for sure. And, certainly never using english. Now, that I'm retired, my goal is to really improve my game. 👍 I went to my pool room yesterday spending an hour and a half on your first shot where both the OB and CB are on the rail one diamond apart. More often than not, my shot rattled the OB in the jaws of the pocket, and often sent the OB ball back to where it started. But; I digress. 🙂 I'll be working on this, and the other shots in this video, along with the different zones in the book. Going to be fun, and I'm sure my game is going to improve.
    Never before have I given any real thought to being able to follow up that corner pocket shot with another like you indicate.

    • @Poolology101

      Excellent!! Thanks for purchasing the book! As far as these rail shots go, keep in mind that different tables will make this shot play a touch different due to variations in rail cushion height and firmness. You may find the shots working exactly as shown here, or you might just have to aim a little thinner or thicker depending on the table. Keep stroke'n em up!

    I just bought the book
    Your system is v useful, i just wish you could have added centimetres in brackets beside all the distances in inches inside your book because in my country we dont use inches so it doesnt come naturally for me, i have to keep thinking about how long exactly do you mean. I know it would be troublesome but maybe other users like me can have a easier time using this book. Ty

    • @Poolology101
      @Poolology101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The numbers are not "inches". One diamond distance is considered "10", not 10 inches, just a scale of 10. Half a diamond is 5. If the object ball is frozen to the rail two diamonds from the pocket, it's on 20. That's not 20 inches, but simply two diamonds at a value of 10 each. So a ball sitting 1 and 3/4 of a diamond from the pocket would be on 17.5. We could call it 17 or 18 to make it easier to work with. Again, that's not 17 inches. It's 1 diamond distance (a value of 10) plus 3/4 of another diamond distance (a value of 7.5 because 3/4 of 10 is 7.5). Does any of this make sense, or have I made it sound too complicated? Lol

    I think I may be on to something that I use in conjunction with your methods. I’m finding that at least on shots frozen to long rail I can figure the fraction by where the butt of my cue lies over end rail. For example other than straight on shots if the butt end lies anywhere on one side of the middle of end rail then it’s 3/4 hit. Can’t say it’s scientific but so far working for me, but definitely need to find limits

    • @Poolology101
      @Poolology101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I figured it would be easier to show the aim line using a back hand english method. I just step up with the cue on the aim line after that. I don't quite understand what you're saying about parallel shift. Would you line center to center and then parallel shift to outside spin? If so, I do show how that causes the cb to be pushed into the rail immediately, which results in a missed shot. By saying to shoot through the left side of the cb to a specific aim point on the ob, it's pretty straightforward and no other aim with a parallel shift is needed.
