    Mercedes should of just originally had the dust shield in 2 sections. I cut the new dust shields in half right between the mounting holes and it works perfectly. It's still a full shield and each section secured by 2 bolts.

    Excellent video!!! I’ve been having trouble locating this issue, and also, I can usually find what I need for DIY projects for my 2002 MB C320 online, but it’s not always so easy, this is a great, efficient and helpful video. I asked dozens of my friends what they thought that rattling noise was, and everyone was clueless. So I’m very excited to take care of this myself and save money. Keep up the good work my friend!

    Just a small point, on a great video. The smaller spring goes behind the shoes, not in front. The larger spring at the FRONT of the shoe, the smaller one at the REAR.

      You are right. But at the end it doesn't influence the whole assembly mechanism operation, specially in his case due to the lack of 2 resting/sliding pads that were cut off from the dust cover. However now he faces narrower space to move the adjuster wheel!

    Thanks for this video I got a w204 2005 merc with a faulty handbrake that failed mot and when the disc was removed we found out there was no shoes, no springs and no clip to attach to the cable it was just lying about freely. Now all I need is to buy the shoe set and the necessary clips and adjusters to connect to the cable. 👍🏻👍🏻💯

    Great video, , Cutting the new dust cover to fit around the hub , saves you a lot of pain , These dust covers only last 5 to 10 years anyway, and are pretty cheap to buy without going through a MB dealer .

      I'm finding I'm buying maybe 25% of my parts from the dealer because they are the best price. Bought a left side dust shield for only $22 and while I was there ordered some extra extension springs for only 70 cents each. I recently needed a new battery and the MB dealer was the best price and in stock for $201. And then other parts are crazy expensive, like sway bar links, so I went with FCP Euro and there life time warranty. Also Ebay saved me hundreds so far, bought a lot of used parts from California salvage cars in great condition to replace all the rusted out parts in my car. Got an entire right side spindle complete with dust shield, brake cable, pads, hub and bearing, for $35 shipped. Pair of complete front struts with springs for $100 shipped, rear coil springs for $60 shipped. After a good cleaning the parts looked almost new. Just make sure to see photos of the actual parts and get the vin to look up the cars mileage, the one time I received a bad part was from a listing that only had a stock photo of the car and no vin to look up.

    It is a good idea to cut the dust shield. However, it is best to cut in two pieces and have two pieces with bolts so that it reuses the complete shield.

    Hi
    You have to adjust the shoes with the disc installed in place, you când acces the adjuster thru the one of the holes in the disc with a flat screwdriver. You turn the adjuster until you can feal or hear some resistance against the disc. Then you do the same on the other side and job done.

    • @kristianeldevik1843
      @kristianeldevik1843 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the car in nutral you can move the hub sepret to the brake disc. (You need to undo the torx 30 srcew) after you got in park. You can move the disc and hub until one of the holes lines up with the adjuster :)

    The problem you will encounter when utilising this method is that you will lose one of the stand offs which are pressed into the plate to hold the brake shoes parallel to it. If you must go down this route, cut the plate horizontally in two pieces, fit and then weld them together then prime and paint.

    May I ask for one opinion, when they been changing tires on w203 mercedes, this one, they put one screw longer so for one day I heard one clack noise with every one spin of wheel. Tommorow they cut little bit that one screw because it was too long and now is fine but could they make some damage, is it possible that my car go slower because hand brake catch for little bit wheel or something like that? I tested hand brake and it's working fine.

    That was a good video, but I got issue efter installation of the shoes to place the disk back. It seems I need some more space to get the disk in. I don't have any idea why it doesn't go as smoothly as yours. Any suggestions or hands on to help me get the disk in?

    • @tonydixon2684
      @tonydixon2684 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the exact same problem yesterday 😂 i put everything back together and struggled to fit the disk over the shoes. After a bit of moving around of the shoes the disks fitted over the. Then i tried the handbrake and the parking brake with none of them having any effect 😂
      So I took the disks back off and adjusted the shoes using the adjuster and then I struggled to get the shoes on again 😂😂 it was an annoying end to the day but I gave up after that, I rewatched this video this morning to make sure I done everything correct and I can't see where I made a mistake.
      How did you sort your issue?

  • @ZacharySlaver
    @ZacharySlaver 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Which Mercedes was this? I have a 2003 Mercedes C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe and I put everything on and did it your way and I hear a scraping noise, almost sounds like the spring that connects the ebrake shoe to the brake shield I think it's rubbing against the lug nuts because it makes the noise at every lug nut hole...

    Man I remember when I wanted to change the break pads on the rear wheels. The system was so rusted the piston were blocked. I bought another set of calipers. Originals Mercedes Benz. I noticed having this problem because I felt my car was breakin with the front wheels only. It was very crazy, specially because I drive with high speeds and I'm quite iresponsable. I don't care about others, I'm very selfish. I think I need to replace also the break pads. Is not like the break is not working (the pedal) but is not very very strong. I tried making some adjustments from the cables but.. meeeh. I think is better but not the same. How sad I don't have a brand new car and make a comparison. Keep in mind, a true Gopnik changes the pads and shields by himself because they are very expensive. Those money you can spend it getting drunk on vodka with your friends and listen to hardcore music. Ahhh East Europe.. I couldn't live in the West with all those crybabies. They all mention human rights and they are getting so mad if you offend them. In here is more simple if you annoy me. I can hit you with a fist strong in the mouth, and I calm you down. I'm also bald. I dress in black and my Mercedes is black of course.
