It won't seep through the balloon. It would take quite a bit more than what might be left on the balloon after drying to cause any harm, but if you're concerned about it you could use everclear instead.
Yep, that would work! And it would be carbonated which would be extra delicious. It would fizz while pouring it into the balloons so you would need to let out some of the bubbles before tying them shut, but afterwards I bet it would work great!
Yes. I haven't checked to see how alcoholic you can go, but it should be cold enough to at least freeze drinks around a 25% alcohol concentration. Alternately, stronger drinks could be injected into the shell after freezing.
Wow, man... I've been kind of into what some call "molecular gastronomy" for a while, and I had never heard of anything like that. If you came up with the idea, it's pure genius! The possibilities for this are endless!
This time of year near Halloween dry ice is especially common if you know where to look. Most grocery stores and supermarkets have it up in the front of the store.
Sure, but you could do that just by freezing the drink in a glass with a normal freezer then chopping it in a blender. The alcohol and dry ice is only needed if you need to freeze something really quickly and evenly.
dry ice + alcohol (well, to be exact, ethanol) is used widely in laboratories to deep freeze things without having to deal with the safety hazards of liquid nitrogen. i've used it myself! never thought of this novel application, though. awesome!
Yes, you can use ethanol, but it cannot be denatured or it would be no better than isopropyl. About the only ethanol that is a high enough concentration to work for this is everclear, which costs about $30/liter and is illegal in some places.
Amazing as usual Ben, just when I think you can not top your last creation you surprise us again. The problem I always have is trying to obtain dry ice.
The amount of time that it takes for you to feel slush inside the balloon when you touch it. It will vary between different types of drinks and in different freezers.
Alcohol has a much lower freezing point than water. If he had added just water to it he wouldn't be able to get the liquid cold enough to freeze anything that might contain alcohol. So, yeah this would work with orange juice and a freezer, but if you want to get cray-cray with it you need to mix up a batch like he did.
You could also male it pretty thick and stick a straw in it. Then, bc that straw will then be filled with the ice, take another one and stick it in the same hole. Then presto. You can drink right from the center of the ice ball.
Seems pretty cool. I was just wondering is there a way of preserving the alcohol cold for ever ? I mean after some time it will no longer have the effects it had when it was poured on the dry ice.
Everyone remeber to be careful because unlike liquid nitrogen if you get this on you hands it will stick. So be careful not to touch the liquid, or it can cause intense frostbite. Otherwise its really a cool experiment and a tasty treat.
A lot of people are working to figure that out. The most likely case is that it was an automated accident on TH-cam's end and his account will be restored shortly.
It doesn't matter. So long as there is enough dry ice to get the alcohol cold, and enough alcohol to have room to submerge the balloons it will be fine.
adding the alcohol turns the whole thing into a really cold liquid. dry ice doesn't melt, it usually only exists as a solid, or a gas. water wouldn't work, because it would simply freeze. the alcohol would be chilled by the dry ice without freezing. A liquid is a much better heat conductor. Hence, alcohol ;)
This video has been up for 6 months, has nearly 400,000 views and over 11,000 likes and I make the first comment? I am most definitely trying this one with some booze!
Love the idea - just wonder what substance is used on the inside of the balloon to keep it from sticking together. Used to be talc (inert) or cornstarch (subject to mold). Also, if you use Everclear instead of rubbing alcohol, when you're done you can add sugar and pour it over fruit like cherries and strawberries, and make your own fruit cordials...
Hi NightHawk, this is a superb idea with a lot of potential. Thankyou so much for sharing this wonderful project. I will be using it for dessert in an upcoming dinner party. So, thankyou once again for the great idea. Please keep up the great work with your top notch inspirational ideas and videos. Best wishes, Regards, Peter
I'm from Germany so it's really hard to get dry ice. Can you do it yourself or is it perhaps the same effect as putting salt at ice? Thanks for your videos and for answering the questions :)
The dry ice eventually all sublimates and you're left with plain alcohol same as how you started. You can use it again for all the purposes rubbing alcohol is normally used. If you really want to get rid of it for some reason you can just dump it down the drain, let it evaporate, or burn it in an alcohol stove.
metimoteo It could potentially seep into the balloon in a very small amount, but it takes more than that to cause any harm. To be on the safe side you could use Everclear rather than rubbing alcohol.
Haha fantastic sir this looks like a lot of fun actually and it's an excuse to use alcohol and dry ice always good and some yummy drinks. I bet making a screw driver might taste like crap but I'm sure I could get it done thank you for the video very cool. I can't wait to try
Low level alcoholic drinks would work fine. Hard grain whiskeys would not because they would need a much lower temperature to freeze. This would work well for mixed drinks though, placing the sphere into alcohol.
This is brilliant! I've been watching your videos and everything you come up with is great. What education background do you have? I bet you're an engineer.
Fantastic idea and brilliant results!
A root beer bowl filled with ice cream, yum!
😋A whole new concept of a root beer float!😋
@@mindykanitz6255 A root bear boat floating on more root beer
DUDE THE ONE WHERE U PUT ICECREAM IN IT IT FRIGIN AMAZING!!!!!!DUDE UR A DAM GENIUS!!!!!!!

"Marinade Injector", Also very commonly called "A syringe"
A syringe is much thinner
+didgitalpunk Have fun with your syringe, meanwhile we're gonna go to walmart and get a "Marinade injector" for 3 dollars xD
Making them tomorrow for my son's preschool class (just juice, of course).
We did it and the kids LOVED it! Water, orange juice and Vitamin Water were the thickest cryospheres and pink lemonade was the thinnest.
Laurie LeBlanc I wish my mom did things like that when i was younger
I hope he feels that way when he is older. ;-)
Laurie LeBlanc Laurie, u da real MVP
well, I suppose root beer would be interesting to try...

they should really offer this at restaurants
Will this work with purple drank
Poor man's liquid nitrogen! The best!

I tried it... FRIKKIN AWSOME! Best desert I've ever had

An hour or more in a well insulated container, though it also depends on how much dry ice was used.

I've been doing these for a 2 years now. They are hugely popular when camping & at music festivals
Cool to hear!
This looked so delicious. And I don't usually say that about beverages.
Thanks, once in a while I know what I'm doing.
you are soo kind to do that, and advertise him.
Supermarkets almost always have it. You can call them to find out.
Awesome Ice Spheres. I'll definitely try this.
I did this and it was awesome!!!!! I used cranberry juice

You are the best of all in this category !

Absolutely love gastronomy especially if it contains great science
A lot of people are working to figure that out. The most likely case is that it was an automated accident on TH-cam's end and his account will be restored shortly.
One word is enough for you: AWSOME!
Honestly, this sounds like a good Easter dessert since the spheres have an egg shape.
It doesn't matter. So long as there is enough dry ice to get the alcohol cold, and enough alcohol to have room to submerge the balloons it will be fine.
That is absolutely awesome! I'm going to try it out!
This is a really cool video
Coooool
Emma Herzog Kewl?
Crap ment this to be private
That looks delicious and amazingly fun to make
This is awesome. Is it dangerous to hold the balloon in the supercooled alcohol with your bare hands like that like you do in the video?
Great video. How long does the dry ice/alcohol mixture stay at a useful temperature?

My computer is obviously a piece of shit.
Booze wont freeze
Earl Grey Fill it with booze, after it freezes. Like they said in the video.
this is like glass art - but with drinks! O.o

What a great idea for a party drink!
this is so fancy, gotta try this
we just made them they are delishios
Audible is taking over

Thanks for your videos and for answering the questions :)
You're like a combination of Grant and KipKay, except I can actually build most of what you can too. You've won a new subscriber.
That's my favorite book
I could make small earth out of this! Solid crust and liquid core coolio!
This is so interesting and delicious looking but i wouldn't know where to get dry ice
Awesome!
Great idea! I can't wait to try it with my grandmunchkins.
If you dip your fingers in you will definitely get frostbite. Yes, it is a good idea to wear gloves.
This looks so great.
i read Robinson Crusoe in high school i like it hit home.
Great vid! I would use Everclear or high proof vodka. Then you could just drink it if balloons pop in it or use it for cleaning around the house.
Fucking Christ please don't tell me you drink straight everclear
This would be great to make ice cream balls! TY!
Totally worth doing
maybe there could be a way to fill the baloons with something like dry ice so mist would pour out of the shell when you crack it
This is genius!!!
My god dude this is amazing
How do you dispose of the alcohol/dry ice mixture once you have completed making the spheres?
The dry ice eventually all sublimates and you're left with plain alcohol same as how you started. You can use it again for all the purposes rubbing alcohol is normally used. If you really want to get rid of it for some reason you can just dump it down the drain, let it evaporate, or burn it in an alcohol stove.
Thanks! Making these for a party I'm hosting in a few weeks. Appreciate the info!
I was just going to say burn it until I saw night hawks reply
NightHawkInLight Is there any danger of contamination? Can the alcohol mixture seep into the balloon? My concern is making this for children.
metimoteo It could potentially seep into the balloon in a very small amount, but it takes more than that to cause any harm. To be on the safe side you could use Everclear rather than rubbing alcohol.

Sorry for the diversion, but those bubbles at the end are mesmerizing.
That's awesome. Would be able to make great mix drinks with it
I have to try this! So cool!!
This is awesome!!!
That's an awesome party trick
You can make some using fire extinguishers, if you can't find dry ice.
You can get some at your local ice cream shoppe or parlour, or the less cool store or shop. DQ, Baskin Robins, they should have it.
You have the best videos ever!
Your videos are very interesting and some of the best on TH-cam
Another amazing idea. My brain thanks you.
omg great idea for mixed drinks
Low level alcoholic drinks would work fine. Hard grain whiskeys would not because they would need a much lower temperature to freeze. This would work well for mixed drinks though, placing the sphere into alcohol.
Mmm look at em... So filled with juice.
Im soo about to try this tonight
DUDE I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!
This looks awesome!
You can do this with jelly. The out side is like a sweet ice and the centre jelly.
IKR!!
Omg, how freakin cool is this!?
Holy crap that's amazing
audible is just every where isn't it lol
@kaythanos: yes...I am aware of that. I was saying that one of these ice spheres would be really good in a glass of vodka.
Like as a cocktail.
I'm down with this.
Cute idea!
Robinson Crusoe, good taste.
so nice and original idea!
This is brilliant! I've been watching your videos and everything you come up with is great. What education background do you have? I bet you're an engineer.
