This is one of my favorite activities to do in and around Durango. As others have pointed out it can be a bit dangerous, but exercising good judgement and knowing when it is too high to run will mitigate the risks. There is a point of no return once you go to far, but you can tell if the water is running to hard before you get to that point. I'm also a bigger guy who has run it several dozen times with campers as young as 12, so again with the right precautions and a bit of discretion it can be an amazing and fun time. BTW the water is nearly ice cold, so it is best to run when the sun is high so you can warm up as you navigate from jump to jump. Also if the water is calm enough bring a pair of goggles sometimes you can find some neat little treasures others have lost (sunglasses, money, waterproof cameras, etc).
I had butterflies in my belly while watching this. You guys are absolutely crazy, absolutely amazing and absolutely great buddies to have an adventurous trip with! Now, I have one more dream in my "dream that never will come true" bucket! hehe!
That is a nice stream. I released some nice brown trout in there often. They do not bite but like to rub on your skin going by. Do not grab them they are fragile when recently released.

The damn above this area has been removed and the water flow is now too high.
Johnny Appleseed do you not recommend this hike now? I’m heading there next weekend. Any insight will be helpful. Thanks
