nope, the UK owns it, just like the north of ireland. about time you got used to it.. it's only been 218 years and guess what? still the United Kingdom.
I guess I'm a bit surprised that his mother would pick that particular place when there are so many islands around the British Isles which still would have offered many of the same qualities but with a slightly bigger popuilation and at least one school etc. Why go to such extreme levels when your son is still a teenager? That being said, the son still seems happy overall and will cerainly be breathing better air than what he would be breahing in London. I might visit the island myself when things are back to normal again after lockdown.
I used to know this guy. Man, to see how much he has matured really puts my own life in perspective. He sounds like his mind is in the right place; would make such an awesome TV host! Gonna go so far in life...
Any trees on the island? It looked pretty barren. It seems the story of being “18 On Rathlin” was all about getting off Rathlin ... for school, for friends, for fun, etc.
JonathanDavid J Northern Ireland is in the U.K. but not Great Britain. I’d personally like to see Ireland reunited and I think that’ll probably happen, but it’s not out of the question that there’ll be an independent Northern Ireland one day. So long as it’s out of the U.K., I don’t really mind.
It's a lovely place, but for a young person, almost everything they want to do in life must be off the island somewhere else...so that will be a big problem for a kid going away & leaving his mum on her own - maybe the 'island' thing is just in our heads tho, as he says & once kids get to late teens/early 20's years they largely take off anyway - wherever you live !!
Craig Wood From his intelligent, educated, calm and polite demeanour, I think it’s highly unlikely that his mum is a raving, racist Quitling loon, so I very much doubt that’s why she wanted to leave.
@@icturner23 yuppeee... Mother of an intelligent, educated, calm and polite bloke would rather like her kids to be groomed, raped, stabbed and defaced by Acid attack than being called raving, racist Quitling loon ..... 😅 (by the way..what does "Quitling" mean?)
It would be interesting to know what it was like to be 18 on the island rather than the token English guy who spends all his time trying to get off it 😂😂
I don't get the reasoning behind comments like this. Most people are aware that nationalists/republicans have a certain view and unionists have another. Then there are people without a strong view at all, especially people in mixed marriages with a less partisan outlook. Ian Paisley Sr (who I am not a particular fan of) apparenly visited the island and helped modernise it, despite the small population being from a mostly catholic background.
Nah I know people who live on other UK islands who depend on ferries. The costs of the ferries are prohibitive for any young kid who wants to see their friends on the mainland. There are terrible job opportunities if your child has to live in a place like this. Please don't make your children miserable by moving them here!! Wait until you retire!
But is there WiFi?
Best Greetings from Germany, Benedict. Shalom. 😊 You remind me of my youngest brother Matthias 😊
A slower life has many qualities to offer the individual.
Why go all the way to ballymoney when there is a choice secondary schools in ballycastle?

I wish I could visit there one day. 😍
People don’t go to boarding schools in Northern Ireland don’t be daft.
Is there no secondary school in Ballycastle?

It sits in line with the white flight narrative so that is why I expect it has got a showing.
