This is honestly one of the best How To videos I have ever seen. No fluff, no long winded explanations, just exactly what you need and super comprehensive even though it was so short. Very well done mate.
This is a perfect video! All the info I needed to do my first oil change on my new-to-me KLR and no added fluff or time wasting. Brilliant! Thanks so much for this video.
I wanted to watch a quick run through before I change it for the first time. 100% I cannot thank you enough for making a no bs video. Quick and to the point. Thank you!!!
This video was amazing even without the added sound effects.. You sir are brilliantly magnificent! Keep these fun and quick tutorials coming! Cheers! 🥂
I dig it. Kawi and Suzi apparently had the same train of thought for an easy access oil filter. Only thing I do different is pour the remaining contents of my last bottle of oil through with the drain plug out to help flush out any remaining nasty oil. Who knows if it makes a difference, but I had it sitting around anyways.
+dustysquito That's not a bad idea at all! I change my oil quite often, though, because I'm riding so much. I guess that's my way of doing the flushing :)
You made changing oil fun and exciting. I wish I had cool sound effects in mine. Life with out a torque wrench... would be hard on me. Great video Tyler. Also just received your stickers. I got a perfect place for them on the DRZ.
My dad has an 04' KLR650, first time he did an oil change he kept trying to put that little tube in backwards. Whacked the cover with a rubber mallet and broke the cover plate in half... lol.
+Jonathon Weldon I tried doing two videos a week for a long time, then saw a video about subscriber burn. I switched to one video a week and doubled subscribers and views!!! Believe me, I have enough content on the backburner for two or more videos per week, but when I do that the subscribers burn out. Weird, right?
+Jason Halverson I picked up a 1600 psi pressure washer from Lowes a while ago for $60. I think it's a SunJoe or something like that? It works, but it definitely has its quirks... like it takes about 3 minutes of water going through the hose before it actually puts out a constant spray. I don't know much more beyond that, other than for washing bikes, 1600 psi is about the strongest you want to ever go so you don't damage seals/chains/electrical.
So plain old Rotella seems to have been discontinued in favor of their numbered lines. T4 is the nearest replacement I think? Can anyone confirm this new name is ok to put in there?
How do you still have the exhaust pipe heat shield? On my 99 that was the first thing to rust out. I've noticed a lot of other older Klrs without them, I did notice one screw missing though. My old bikes exhaust pipe has a permanent ez-out broken off in side the screw hole :)
I did my oil change. If I run the bike for a minute and then look at the glass it looks low. But if I let it sit for a few minutes, it looks high. Do I check the site? It’s been sitting for a few minutes? Or immediately after turning the engine off?
Everide, have you ever encountered the Klr650 ever popping when decelerating and sometimes cut off? Mine is doing that and the book says it could be the choke still on some making it run rich. Any thought's? it's a 09.
+Monty I haven't heard that debate... what I do know is that too much oil can hurt it more than not enough on a KLR. On a DRZ, the frame reservoir can hold a bit more without issues.
what if I don't heat the oil first? I don't want too because I checked oil level and there was no oil showing -.- don't know how much it's still in there
Thank you God for how this video is. If you do intros to oil change videos theres a special place in hell for you and whoever gave this a thumbs down i hope you're mother is ashamed of you
This is honestly one of the best How To videos I have ever seen. No fluff, no long winded explanations, just exactly what you need and super comprehensive even though it was so short. Very well done mate.
Every "How- To" video should be modeled after this one. Short and to the point. Everything you need to know. That's all, no extra. Thanks
This is a perfect video! All the info I needed to do my first oil change on my new-to-me KLR and no added fluff or time wasting. Brilliant! Thanks so much for this video.
love the sound effects and the short to the point video, now subbed - like your style 🙌
Every "How to" guide on TH-cam should be like this. So good! Thanks!
the sound effects for this one? epic. well done, sir. well done. :-)
+b1pig *ferrnnnnp!*
I wish all people did tutorials like this
Thanks! Straight forward and to the point. If I didn't have to reposition the skid plate, it'd have taken me 5-7min. Freakin' loving this bike!
I wanted to watch a quick run through before I change it for the first time. 100% I cannot thank you enough for making a no bs video. Quick and to the point. Thank you!!!
Awesome video, just bought a KLR650 and appreciate the BRIEF and accurate rundown.
This video was amazing even without the added sound effects.. You sir are brilliantly magnificent! Keep these fun and quick tutorials coming! Cheers! 🥂
Thanks a bunch, chief! This was the perfect refresher course. All we need sometimes!

Dude.
Best how to video yet!
Fast, funny and to the point.
Will you please do every video ever? Informative, concise and no bullshit. Thank you 👍
Thanks for the vid! I'll boot this up when I attempt my first oil change to help step me through the process.
wow. that was the best and easiest to understand how to's ive ever seen
You made changing oil fun and exciting. I wish I had cool sound effects in mine. Life with out a torque wrench... would be hard on me. Great video Tyler. Also just received your stickers. I got a perfect place for them on the DRZ.
+Piston Slap Ahhhh yeah! Everybody knows fart sound effects are the best while wrenching ;)
It really is as easy as this video makes it seem. Great how to, everide!
OMG this was AWESOME!!!! why can't ALL VIDEOS BE LIKE THIS!!!! you sir, have truly made my day!
Great video, but all I could think about was the halfthrottle KLR oil change video where he "properly disposed" of the oil at the end!
+The FLB Club His video is technically the far more correct way to change the oil :)
Short and to the point! Nice...
My dad has an 04' KLR650, first time he did an oil change he kept trying to put that little tube in backwards. Whacked the cover with a rubber mallet and broke the cover plate in half... lol.
+AimlessMoto Oh man! Yeah those little plates are pretty brittle. Gotta be super careful when pulling those things off, too!
This video deserves more views. Great how-to
This bike is quite simple to change the oil on....quite simple, like EVERYTHING on the KLR, haha. Great bikes, nice vid.
Man, nice, short and sweet !
Hey, great video, loved the sound effects. You should totally release content more often.
+Jonathon Weldon I tried doing two videos a week for a long time, then saw a video about subscriber burn. I switched to one video a week and doubled subscribers and views!!! Believe me, I have enough content on the backburner for two or more videos per week, but when I do that the subscribers burn out. Weird, right?
make more of thease!!!!!
your perfect for educational videos. and you're already a trained teacher!
+Anthony Asp Thanks! I certainly will :)
Your wheelies are improving big time!
+California Dual Sport Riders Only with the magic of the camera, my friend :)
Quick, detailed and awesome.
Now if only I could replicate this without it taking me two hours a stripped bolt and oil all over the garage.
+ArmasADVish It was the same for me... just a lot of editing! ;)
I would love to see more standard maintenance quickies like this. Guys ALWAYS go for quickies.......
+Jeff Cobb Bwahahaha!
Nice job! I love the sound effects...........LOL. KLRs and Rotella..............two things that just go together.
+Gunner40Five Hahaha KLR, Rotella, and arguments! ;D
Huge respect, very informative video and nice editing!
short and sweet with happy KLR wheelie AWESOMENESS in the end....... more please I'm greedy :D
+DRZcoffeegirl Ride Sounds good! :D
perfect how to video. most excellent southern utah man.
Great video man, you nailed in super quick !
Now this a good tutorial, short and to the pint, i mean point :)
+Samcro10 I see what you did there! :D
2 mins well spent! Nice work. Wheelie on a Killer impressive :-)
this is a side bar question, but i was curious if you had a recommendation on a quality, yet cheaper, pressure washers??
+Jason Halverson I picked up a 1600 psi pressure washer from Lowes a while ago for $60. I think it's a SunJoe or something like that? It works, but it definitely has its quirks... like it takes about 3 minutes of water going through the hose before it actually puts out a constant spray. I don't know much more beyond that, other than for washing bikes, 1600 psi is about the strongest you want to ever go so you don't damage seals/chains/electrical.
Some good advice Tyler.
KLR tutorial on Everide. I felt 20-something again for a while there!
+John Grammaticus lol so did I! :D
BOOM and done. Nice vid.
Quick and informative!
Excellent video!!
So plain old Rotella seems to have been discontinued in favor of their numbered lines. T4 is the nearest replacement I think? Can anyone confirm this new name is ok to put in there?
hooray! another fellow rotella user!! :)
YEAAAAH! ROTELLA!!!!!!!!!
+ricecakeFTW *fist bump!*
+ricecakeFTW Rotella T6 Synth in my '04 KLR650. Transmission is pretty notchy and clunky but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be....
sweet and simple
loved the sound fx
How do you still have the exhaust pipe heat shield? On my 99 that was the first thing to rust out. I've noticed a lot of other older Klrs without them, I did notice one screw missing though. My old bikes exhaust pipe has a permanent ez-out broken off in side the screw hole :)
+dnnich Yeah mine just recently lost that first screw. Not long until they're both gone!
But how did that wheelie end????? It shot up quick!
+Nerb1 It's the secret power of a little rock kicker! :D Believe me, that KLR ain't gettin' up on a power wheelie on it's own! :D
I did my oil change. If I run the bike for a minute and then look at the glass it looks low. But if I let it sit for a few minutes, it looks high. Do I check the site? It’s been sitting for a few minutes? Or immediately after turning the engine off?
I have a KLR rotting in my back yard. I think I should try get it going again.
+Chris Harper Yes you should.
+Chris Harper it doesn't matter how long that klr has been rotting in your yard. it will still run better than most bikes.
+michael adams Soooo true!
Watch this every oil change perfect
What kind of oil and filter did you use. Trying to change both for the first time. Want to make sure I use the right stuff.. any help
You are a lean, mean, oil-changin' wheelie machine!
Sweet! Do u remember how much u paid for the KLR originally? What year is it? After a long highway trip on my KLX I would like to get a KLR too lol..
+RollingCole It's a 1994 KLR bought with 19000 miles. I got it for $1700... not a bad deal at all!
Everide, have you ever encountered the Klr650 ever popping when decelerating and sometimes cut off? Mine is doing that and the book says it could be the choke still on some making it run rich. Any thought's? it's a 09.
Always looking for a new oil. Why is Rotella a good one?
+richgunfighter I was told to use it by the two moto gurus in my life, my brother Jae and MrDuhFactor. I trust them, so I use it!
Oh Yeah! Short and Sweet. This reminds me I think I have 7k on my current oil....
+ChaoticDetour Hey man I'm the same way!
Well done!!
+MrDuhfactor Thanks to you, homie!
Do you change the filter every time? I do mine every other oil change. But I change my oil every thousand mills or so
+Oldrides53 I change it every other time, but I change the oil at about 3000 miles.
ive seen in the forms people use Rotella. How does it do? i just use lucas. was told diesel oil isnt up to the same standards as gas oil
Great video!!
ADD " YOUR FAVORITE OIL" ; very informative video though
Very good!
thumbs up for the sound effects :)
what is the best oil to use for a klr 650
I have a h*lluva time getting the oil filter cover off my 2008. I've dinged the crap out of it and the main case trying to get that bugger off.
First ever wheelie on a KLR
Ive seen a lot of debate on 2 vs 2.5qts on gen 2 klr. Thoughts?
+Monty I haven't heard that debate... what I do know is that too much oil can hurt it more than not enough on a KLR. On a DRZ, the frame reservoir can hold a bit more without issues.
Whats the best oil for the KLR?
what if I don't heat the oil first? I don't want too because I checked oil level and there was no oil showing -.- don't know how much it's still in there
Then add some more and then turn it on , and do the oil change
Easy Peasy!
Good one Tyler. Now come change mine ;) haha
+Britex3186 Seriously if I could, I would!
Same thing on a 2006 KLR650?
PLEASE RESPOND!
+Schmidt McGready Yep! Same process :)
You have done that before I take it haha. Stay safe
+Tankerman Only a few times ;)
looks so so easy compared to the V-Strom, but that ain't hard either :-)
Who the hell thinks a paper towel is going to protect anything from a metal screw driver lol. Gotta love the self proclaimed experts on here ha
Thanks!!
whew cut the fat on that video haha fantastic job
amazing :)
Thank you God for how this video is. If you do intros to oil change videos theres a special place in hell for you and whoever gave this a thumbs down i hope you're mother is ashamed of you
But you didn't drink the used oil like HalfThrottle does!
I thought you were supposed to drink the oil to safely dispose of it :-)
+Mark Gunnison I'm not that brave! However, I did notice a bit more hair on my chest :)
Perfect
Instructions unclear. Now my KLR is pregnant.
Well done. May have Christ bless you.
Never had to change oil on my klr she gets a fresh quart every 1000 miles 🤣🤣
Intermission..time to grab a sammich or sumn
Been there done that... 😝
AHHH-LE-LU-IA!!!
+Thunder Knife Adventures I've probably changed the oil a dozen times, and that was the least messy of any change ever!
Give it a whack! ;)
Booo-yahhh! =0)
Well done!!!
Excellent!
