My baby girl came from a rescue center. She was quarantined for 14 days and delivered to us apparently healthy (she had 3 months). 5 days after being at our home, she was admitted with panleukopenia after suddenly starting to vomit and refusing to eat. She stayed at the vet for seven days and survived. Luckily, we had already placed her in a separate room when we brought her in and she did not infect our other cat. Now she is super healthy and weights more than our 10-year-old cat.
As long as they actually did a 14-day quarantine, it is basically unheard of that panlukopenia raises its head. Usually after 7 days you're in the clear. Unfortunately it is extremely easy to carry on your clothes from the outdoors, on your shoes, touching another animal outside that has the virus and then coming home etc.
I got a new kitten and he had lessions, vet told me not to quarantine because he seemed fine (had skin lessions and ear mites tho). I placed him with all my cats and then.. the plague was released, he had ringworm. My 2 cats, me and my toddler got ringworm too... After 4 months of treatment and hundreds of dollars everyone is finally healthy again... Quarantine your cats people, it's vital.
I guess he wasn't showing symptoms when the vet examined him (like Hannah discussed from 2:27 ‐ 3:00), but you'd think your vet could have recommended quarantining anyway, just as a precaution.
Medical person here. THANK YOU for talking about wearing booties. It’s so overlooked, but it kept me from taking things home from the hospital (including bedbugs on a patient).
Watching the two of them snoozing on each other while you talk is so lovely. They were alone for so long, and it must feel so nice for them to finally smush up against each other.
I can't thank you enough for making videos like these. I started fostering last year because of you and every time I have a question I know I can look for a video or check your website. You've helped me through every single kitten crisis I've experienced so far.
Thank you SO much for addressing this issue! I have been ghosted by rescues for simply asking what their quarantine procedures are. Simply crossing fingers, hoping, and praying is not protection!
Quarantine is so important! I know so many people who just adopt cats and "chuck them right in" -- potentially exposing all your other cats to illness or parasites. It's so important to observe them and make sure that they're healthy before introducing them to your other cats. And those 2 weeks are a good amount of time for slow, gradual introductions (such as feeding each other on the opposite side of a door) to make sure they get along behaviorally, too.
I am sad to say my fostering story came to a terrible end with a panleuk infection. I am glad that you posted this since it contains tips on disinfecting kitten areas in the home
When fostering my second litter of kittens I had did a 2 week quarentine during which they were tested for all kinds of things. Flash forward to 2 days after I introduce them to another litter only for them to start developing concerning symptoms... it was panluk and now the kittens have been all over my apartment and cat. We were lucky and only lost one kitten from the group that developed panluk late and none one else thanks to Kitten Lady's older videos on quarentine and how to advocate for sick kittens to busy shelters!
I love Piccolino's ears. I remember one year, in our rural home, we kept hearing a cat crying outside in the snow. Our cats are indoor/outdoor, but we took a head count, all were accounted for, and the meows continued. So we set a live trap and caught a fully mature intact black fluff-ball cat. Since our cats were presumed to have been exposed to him, we didn't quarantine. Ultimately we regretted that decision, not because he brought disease to the other cats, but because he was incompatible with them. We got him fixed right away, and ear clipped as we weren't sure if he would adopt us or not. I was wheelchair bound at the time from breaking my leg. The day after he was neutered, my 80 year old dad was trying to socialize him (We called him Midnight at the time, later changed his name to Nightmare). In sauntered one of our cats, and Midnight turned into a monster. He got so enraged by our cats that he lashed out and bit my father. I didn't see it happen, and dad minimized his injury, but a couple hours later he told me he was going to go to get it seen by a doctor. (I couldn't drive, as my leg was broken). Literally ten minutes after my dad left, Midnight/Nightmare was visiting me when another of our cats walked into the room. Recalling father's experience, I went to gently push my cat away so he wouldn't interact with the new cat, and Midnight saw my hand and launched himself at it, biting my hand and hanging by the mouth from my hand. I was able to remove him from my hand, and had to call my husband to come help (as I couldn't walk). Hubby did the most expedient thing, he put the new cat out the front door and within half an hour, we knew we had to go to the ER. My hand swelled up like a catcher's mitt and we had to do some aggressive treatment to get the spreading infection under control. We still feed Nightmare outside, but he's not welcome as a member of the household. Luckily I was able to overcome the bite and the limb and life threatening complications of the bite. I have to say that when you have a broken leg, having a hand that doesn't work makes life much more difficult!
OMG you poor thing! I totally agree, two weeks is not much if it gives you peace of mind, not only with potential infection but also socialization. I love Hanna's setup with the plastic dividers - the animals can get curious about each other before they meet.
Yes thank you for mentioning the phone. Idk how many times I have to tell people they gotta clean their phone too ! Also take the case off, clean the phone and the case! When I worked in a covid outbreak I would wipe anything in my purse I touched, even if it wasn't in the area. I would come home and immediately strip all my clothes to throw in the laundry and hop in the shower after my work day. It makes a difference! Kept a separate pair of shoes for work. Wiped down my glasses even though I was wearing goggles. Honestly if you're trying to prevent a spread of something, no amount of sanitation is too much. Take what you think you should be doing for sanitation and do it double
I just wanted to let you know that you’ve helped our family with fostering for years I’ve learned how to give fluid and flea baths all thanks to you so thank you Hannah your amazing
The boys are absolutely adorable and I am happy to see them getting along so well. Thanks for all your good advice and the information you share. You are a true ambassador for foster kitties. ❤️
I don’t share this too often but I love cats. I have 7 . I got them mostly as strays but 3 I adopted. Idk cats are so unique and have such wildly different personalities for each cat. I just love them haha
Hey, I want a kitten so bad, I’m obsessed with kittens and cats! I’m doing so much research so I’m ready and your videos have helped so much! Thank you so much.
Kitten Lady: What a great video!! From A to Z, everything you need to basically know about this topic. Your babies are flourishing!! Blossoming like the little rosebuds they are.🐈🐾🐈🐾🥰
When I'm older I too plan on fostering kittens and will come back and watch your videos again to learn things I may miss now! I love cats and always have and used to have 13 cats and kittens around to care for but had to give them other loving homes, it was a lot of responsibility but I loved them! I even had to bottle feed 2 kittens and learned how from you! Thanks so much! I am already making notes and can't wait to foster kittens 😍 ☺️
I cannot express how important quarantine is when introducing pretty much any life into your home. I once made the mistake of not quarantining some fresh water plants for my aquarium. It turned into a complete algae fueled nightmare as I had inadvertently introduced a particularly aggressive species. I was also risking the lives of my shrimp, as parasites could have been present and infected them-- where a quarantine period would have mitigated that risk substantially.
I love your instructional.videos. They are complete with valuable information and provides step by step guidance for kitten care. ❤️ I love the care and detail you give to each video. I even loved the design of the tip card slides, with the icons of the bacteria 🦠 and virus. I saw some familiar faces too! Ruthie and Mr Peep, Chickpea and Archie getting his ringworm treatment I think? Walk down memory lane ❤️ Happy Caturday Hannah!
BAMBINO is very knowing and looking at you more than his brother!..His eyes were fixed on you very interested!.. You are so good at this..the way u talk to them..God Bless You..and all the Kitty Kits..😽🙏
Wow Thanks, 😊 Thankyou for taking care 🙂 of these little Angles💖 PICCOLINO AND BAMBINO are Chunky, Sweet, and lucky to have you💗 I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS, KEEPING GOING STRONG AND I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE A LIFESAVER FOR LITTLE LIVES.
This is a random question, but obviously you do a lot of laundry with your kittens and own pets. What kind of washer do you use that stands up to constant washing of blankets and supplies (and fur) ??? My washer just broke ..... so thought I'd ask. LOOOVE seeing Bambino and Piccolino together.
New sub! You have a special place in heaven! Wow you’re amazing. My and my cat have been inseparable since early 2018 when she was 5 months old. And of course she is spayed!
Such an awesome video!!! Super informative! As someone who fosters (thanks to your channel) I had to learn the hard way when a kitten had ringworm, of course I found out when snuggling in bed😱. Had to clean the whole home it was a nightmare!!!
I should have done this with my new cat. I thought he was screened for all parasites per the rescue group. The rescue group said he was having diarrhea because of the rich food he was being fed. Because of covid, the soonest I could get him to the vet was a month after adoption and unfortunately he had giardia. And because I thought it was a food issue, I exposed my resident cat to this while I was doing slow introduction. She luckily didn’t catch it, but I still feel terrible about it. The rescue group wasn’t at all apologetic - I called just to warn them about the exposure to the other cats and they didn’t seem to care.
Do you ever get them tested for fiv/felv before introducing? I rescued a feral kitten and have kept them separate from my other cats for two weeks, but I’m worried about introducing them before having the kitten tested for these illnesses? Thanks
I love your work! Sadly can't watch it at the moment, because our youngest cat, which we also raised with a bottle, got hit by a car one month ago, only being one year old. I miss him so so much :( But since he wasn't feeding on bottle anymore, I wanted to raise some other kittens with a bottle. Which aso sadly, with my job is impossible unless I bring them to work everyday and feed them there. ...
When I got my kitten we made my room kitten proofed and put all her things in there. We have another cat in the house so we wanted to keep her away from the kitten until she was ready. The kitten was around 2 and a half months old at that time and we got her from a pet smart. She seemed healthy until we got home and a day or so later she started sneezing and coughing and scratching her ears constantly. We took her to the vet because I was thinking she had ear mites because I watched one of your videos with the symptoms. We took her to the vet and turns out she had a cold and ear mites. At that point the two cats had already met each other with booping noses and stuff so we were lucky enough to have our older cat not to get sick. Glad we had caught this early on because she got a cold around 2 weeks later. 😅
My son saw the cute kittens, saw Hannah, and immediately goes "Is there going to be a book about them?! Is that the next book?!" We loved the Fosterland books and recommend it if you have a kid in your life who loves cats.
Question about clothes you use in the quarantine room: do you take them off and leave them right outside the room (say on a towel or a designated bag) or do you have to wash them immediately especially in the case of panleuk/ringworm? Going in and out of the room multiple times I would run out of clothes and I'm thinking if I keep them in a designated are and then disinfect that properly would that work?
You could try what some shelters do with volunteers -- each volunteer wears a long apron over their clothes, so after interacting with the kitten, you can just throw the aprons in a designated bag/bin and wash them at one time. And if possible, keep the kitten in an area with hard surfaces that you can disinfect.
I take mine off and leave on a hook right by the door inside the infected room. When taking off, I avoid touching the outside of protective clothing. Also with the gloves. I take one off and then with unprotected hand grab the inside of the glove and pull it off. They go in the trash
I found a 3-week-old baby and I have two adult cats at home. The vet said it should be quarantined for 3 weeks. It looks healthy, but how you say it, you never know. I have so many questions! But I’m only going to ask one... I worry because feeding it is very difficult. I see your baby take the bottle so easily, but my son fights, it is difficult my that introduce in his mouth the bottle. In fact, now I use a small syringe (1ml), after struggling to accept it and take the formula. The problem is I have to fill it many times so I can take the amount he needs... so every new take is a new fight. I have no idea why he does it and if there’s anything I can do. I hope you read this message.. I want my new kitten to grow up happy and healthy.❤ Thank you!
6mins & 30 secs in the beautiful white kitten in the pen just stunning 😍 well they all r actually, it was just as he or she was walking past c'in her tail lol x
Oh, YAY! Hannah just had to make sure you weren't going to give bad germs to any other furrball micro-ninjas. You know what this means now.... right? .....NINJA WARRIOR TRAINING ❤ Thanks, Ms, Kitten Lady 🐱
Thank you. This was super helpful! I didn't even think of the shoe thing! I am caring for my second orphaned (single) kitten. With my first I didn't have any other pets and didn't have to quarantine (or at least wasn't knowledgeable about it- I had a lot to learn). I now have a resident cat (the 1st orphaned kitten. He's 6!) and dog. I've had the kitten for a week and I hope I didn't infect my house by not protecting my feet. Do you have a recommendation to disinfect carpet as I've walked on the carpet in my house since then? On another note, she went to the vet yesterday and he said to quarantine her for 4 weeks. He wouldn't give any dewormer meds because the fecal sample I gave wasn't big enough and he doesn't know specifically what worms she may have. You and several other rescuers I've talked to recommend treating at 2 weeks old. Should I buy some locally and give it to her anyway? Or wait until I can get a big enough fecal sample? Update: in case anyone is reading, she has roundworms! I should've just given her the pyrantel when I got her and she'd be getting her second round by now 🤦♀️ and in the meantime while I was getting a fecal sample she had some diarrhea and vomiting (yes I did take her back to the vet). I could've possibly prevented that if I'd just given her the meds when I got her.
I’m sorry to hear that :( I agree, I would have given her the pyrantel anyways it’s a very safe medication. It just stays in the bowel it’s not systemic.
@@ALT-vz3jn thanks! And the vet wanted to charge me $30 for .5 ml (one dose for her weight at the time). I ended up buying a whole bottle for $25 and could treat several litters for that price 😂 I learned my lesson!
Really good video! Keep up the good work! btw did the audio mix get a boost in the high frequency? The high pitch parts of the video kinda squeek. Maybe its reverb from the big room?
Of course it’s important to quarantine your kittens of course it’s important people who own snakes do it to four sometimes even do it for like a year or so I think it’s perfectly fine and very very important :-)
This is timely for me. I’m fostering 2 little kittens. They were at my local animal control for 1 week and I have them in a separate room with the door closed. I wonder if I only quarantine 1 more week or 2 more weeks. It doesn’t help that with the huge room they have to play in , their favorite activity is to stick their paws under the door to try and paw at my cat.
I know you likely have a separate video on these diseases, but are you ever concerned about the spread of the "mighty three" FIV/FeLV/FCov? The first and last aren't the major issue but especially FeLV seems to be tricky.
My baby girl came from a rescue center. She was quarantined for 14 days and delivered to us apparently healthy (she had 3 months). 5 days after being at our home, she was admitted with panleukopenia after suddenly starting to vomit and refusing to eat. That vet must have gotten their diploma from a cracker jack box! Disgraceful!
Christ that vet needs to go back to school
If you can, report him, or give him reviews stating warnings to stay away from him.
I agree I will I thank her too.... She is the best ❤️❤️❤️❤️💕💕
Now Hannah just needs a sticky doormat
My untrained opinion: Quarantine also allows kittens to have quiet time for sleep and adjustment. We have 4 in quarantine now! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for fostering!
Thank you SO much for addressing this issue! I have been ghosted by rescues for simply asking what their quarantine procedures are.
Simply crossing fingers, hoping, and praying is not protection!
If they drop people just for asking, they shouldn't be doing rescues.
🥰❤🥰❤

Oh my gosh that air kneading at 1:35 min made me melt into a puddle
So adorable😻

I like coming to your channel for the cuteness but the education is priceless. Thank you for teaching us so much. Much love and prayers.
Great to see how healthy Piccolino has become under your care! Bambino looks wonderful too.
🥰🥰♥️🥰😍

AWEE these kittens look adorable!!! My heart is melting
😄♥️🥰
Their names are also adorable as bambino is italian for baby and piccolino is italian for little one./g /pc
My cheeks hurt, I had the widest smile seeing them 💕
🌹👍🌹
🥰❤🥰
That is so sweet! Every baby kitty needs a friend.
Seeing Piccolino & Bambino snuggled together as you teach such important lessons makes my heart sing ❤❤❤
Hey, I want a kitten so bad, I’m obsessed with kittens and cats! I’m doing so much research so I’m ready and your videos have helped so much! Thank you so much.
Omg love the shirt "de poezenboot Amsterdam"!!! For those that do not know, it is a cat rescue on a big house boot on an Amsterdam channel 😻
The Cat Boat! Loved the canals in Amsterdam, what a nice way to get around.
Kitten Lady: What a great video!!
From A to Z, everything you need to basically know about this topic.

I love your Animal Liberation shirt so much!
Thank you for sharing this information. I had no idea of so many contagious illnesses that can be passed by a kitten.
Wow Thanks, 😊
Thankyou for taking care 🙂 of these little Angles💖
PICCOLINO AND BAMBINO are Chunky, Sweet, and lucky to have you💗
I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS, KEEPING GOING STRONG
AND I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE A LIFESAVER FOR LITTLE LIVES.
Kitten Lady , muito obrigada pelo cuidado e carinho que tem com todos esses “anjos”🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈❤️❤️❤️❤️‼️

As always very useful advice! Thank you, Kitten Lady!
Oh my gosh these baby boys are just precious 😍🥰oh my heart.

Omg feet in the air at the end. I love that they were just asleep together. ‘Friends?’ ‘Zzz, bro’.
New sub! You have a special place in heaven! Wow you’re amazing. My and my cat have been inseparable since early 2018 when she was 5 months old. And of course she is spayed!

I would recommend the Rescue spray! We use it in our veterinary clinic too, especially for coughing patients.
I should have done this with my new cat. I thought he was screened for all parasites per the rescue group. The rescue group said he was having diarrhea because of the rich food he was being fed. Because of covid, the soonest I could get him to the vet was a month after adoption and unfortunately he had giardia. The rescue group wasn’t at all apologetic - I called just to warn them about the exposure to the other cats and they didn’t seem to care.
the sheer magnitude of cuteness in this video is just overwhelming. ^_^
Piccolino has the c u t e s t ears!!
And those sweet little avocado bods!!
Do you ever get them tested for fiv/felv before introducing? I rescued a feral kitten and have kept them separate from my other cats for two weeks, but I’m worried about introducing them before having the kitten tested for these illnesses? Thanks
Oh my gosh, so cute! I’m glad they are getting to know eachother! This really warms my heart… I hope to be like you someday! (8th)
I love your work! Sadly can't watch it at the moment, because our youngest cat, which we also raised with a bottle, got hit by a car one month ago, only being one year old. I miss him so so much :(
But since he wasn't feeding on bottle anymore, I wanted to raise some other kittens with a bottle. Which aso sadly, with my job is impossible unless I bring them to work everyday and feed them there. ...
I just wanted so many closeups of those adorable babies!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
OMG so young kittens !!!
Hey safety first!
Those itty bitties need every chance to be healthy.
This was so awesomely informative! Thank you!🐅🐆🐈
i found your book at the library automatically checked out not disappointed i love the book!
ok it's confirmed i'm fostering newborn kittens now because they are just the most adorable things ever
Is that the next book?!" We loved the Fosterland books and recommend it if you have a kid in your life who loves cats.
wonderful! Your positivity is contagious and inspirational
I was literally looking for this exact video from you yesterday!
Now know what to say the adorable kittens
Your literallya angel on earth
I hope they get adopted together 😻
I cant, these babies are so cute 😢
Extremely useful video.
Many thanks💐
🥰🥰♥️
"nobody can be licking each others butt" says no one except for kitten rescuers, LOL.
Thank you for making a video about this. It had to be said and should be taken more seriously!❤️

This video couldn’t have come at a better time for me as I’m also fostering and want to bring in another singleton
The two beans didn’t much care for the subject matter. They just snuggled and fell asleep 😁
I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!
Precious 💞💕
Oh, YAY! Hannah just had to make sure you weren't going to give bad germs to any other furrball micro-ninjas. You know what this means now.... right?
.....NINJA WARRIOR TRAINING ❤ Thanks, Ms, Kitten Lady 🐱
Holy macaroni! That setup is AMAZING! Where did you order that high-walled enclosure from?
Loved seeing cute little Chickpea in the vlog
You have such a great and informative channel.
Yay bonding
I ended up buying a whole bottle for $25 and could treat several litters for that price 😂 I learned my lesson!
i love kittens
Really good video! Keep up the good work!
btw did the audio mix get a boost in the high frequency? The high pitch parts of the video kinda squeek. Maybe its reverb from the big room?
Thanks for sharing
Love your t-shirt from my home country by the way!
1:34 Bambinos lil air biscuits oh my god!!!!
What cutie patootie’s❣️
De Poezenboot Amsterdam t-shirt is perfect.
Outstanding info thank you for it
Why do they look so STINKY CUTEEEEEEE?! 😭😍
So cute
@kitten kady ...I am a big fan of yours and😊✨love from bangladesh
Really important video🙌🏻
I know you likely have a separate video on these diseases, but are you ever concerned about the spread of the "mighty three" FIV/FeLV/FCov? The first and last aren't the major issue but especially FeLV seems to be tricky.
Hello! Thank you for the interesting video. Happiness to you and your loved ones. See you
🐱🐱💗
