Similarly in another branch of same bank and in the same way with other banks and their branches. dear sir, all your suggestions are very good and useful. but we dont know whether the IAS has only these ampont as savings and that too only in the wife's name. he may have FD in his name in the same bank. he may also have FD's in different banks for both of them. he may have also invested in post office, MF< LIC etc. He might have real estate and gold along with pension.So we should not think that the IAS has done a wrong thing.
Another big waste is Post office deposit - all Post office employee is utter criminals and they will rip your all clothes when you go for the maturity claim - Signature not matching bring Ration card etc etc - sure you will go mad ; my In laws had put for 7 years and the office bearer literally made my In law cry for that money ; they will not even give it Cash ; they will ask another bank account and they will transfer to that account only - so horrible investment in Post office too

What will happen if you are Fraud & trying to Impersonate your mother in law. Systems are there for checks and balances. Obviously if signature not matches, every Financial system wants to confirm the true identity. Still Post offices are safest for senior citizens as this can be easily approachable than many banks by them. The maturity amount will go only to her sole account from where she can retrieve her money. (I guess you put your/your wife's money to her account without her consent/known to her)
