I remember back in the day when leaders were railing against rock music all the time. I remember a stake leader saying at a youth fireside that the electric guitar was "an instrument of the devil." I started playing guitar when I was 12. All the bands you named were my favorites AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne (RANDY RHODES!!! \m/ \m/ ), Cream, The Who, and etc. One of my vivid memories is going to mutual on a Wednesday night and some guy from another ward in the building, just lost it on me for wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt. I mean, he went bonkers on me. I was barely 13. I had no idea what was going on. He took me down to my Bishop's office. Fortunately, my Bishop was also my uncle......who was also teaching me guitar, ha! He told the guy to chill and he's overreacting. He told me to just go back to what I was doing. As the years went on, I found out what that douche nozzle really was. He was one of those guys that liked to give the appearance of obedience and faithful living, but he was verbally and physically abusive in the home. His kids hated him and when they graduated one by one, they left to never come back. His wife had a nervous breakdown and later divorced him. Too busy trying to police others but not really taking care of his own stuff.

@@cinnamondan4984 - ha! there was actually more to the story but my post was already too long. That stake leader who said guitar is the "instrument of the devil," later moved into our ward. When i was about 17 years old, the ward choir leader asked me to play acoustic guitar for a quartet singing "silent night" at the ward christmas program. (As an aside: if you are mormon and play guitar, be prepared to play silent night. They love guitar accompaniment on that song) I put together a nice classical finger style arraignment that would modulate in and out of key including a short instrumental solo. At the end of the service i was packing up my guitar and that former stake leader came over to compliment my performance. I couldn't resist and simply said, "Thanks......i was really channeling Satan on that one,"....and walked away. The look on his face..... so worth it.

It's all projection. They like to accuse some outside force for their horrible actions. They're just shitty people who can't take responsibility for their own behaviors. It makes sense because to them God, also an outside force, is in charge of their life. When good stuff happens it's God's fault. When bad stuff happens it's Satan's fault. Never any personal accountability.

All those rock bands you named were ritually abused as children, probably in a satanic setting. The parents caused extreme trauma to their children in order to fragment the self into multiple personalities, then they program those different personalities, they can create amazing musicians, singers, even murders etc. They do this with demonic powers and entities. Almost every celebrity comes from a very dark satanic family who craved fame. When you see celebrities having alcohol or drug problems it is because they remember portions of what happened to them or what they were forced to do to others (ex Amy Whinehouse) They are not sent to normal rehab but to reprogramming specialist and centers. If the reprogramming is successful they go on living as before if not, they program them to commit suicide or kill them off like the young guy from the fast and the furious movie who supposed died in a car crash. Bs. Many times they are killed off.

I have a friend who was abused by a relative as a young child. She forgot it and remembered in therapy and could confirm with her parents. The parents found it when that relative was helping them, stop allowing that person to be in contact with the child, but thought the best was to allow the child to forget it. Only when she, as a young woman in therapy, asked her parents, they told her about it and how they found it out.

This is a broad subject. I belong to a group that looks into cases of SRA, and similar subjects, and when it comes to claim's it's very hard to not immediately empathize with people who report these incidents.
The truth is not everyone who makes a report has indeed suffered these atrocities. Some are attention seekers, some are trying to sell a book, some are pranksters, some have been hypnotized into giving false confessions and some are trying to cloud the information that gets to the public.
This is 100% real and has been going on for thousands of years. This isn't exclusive to Mormonism, we find sects that commit SRA within every religion or cult.
    We also see institutionalized SRA.
These techniques have been used to groom spies and assassin's for countries and various organizations for as long as recorded history.

My father was a psychotherapist and hypnotist during this time period and, although he wasn't directly involved in any of the cases you mentioned, it had somewhat of an impact in that people came forward with stories of *both* being groomed to recall memories of sexual abuse by unethical therapists (in fact, I encountered this myself but recognized it in the first session and didn't go back) as well as a few cases of ritual sexual abuse who were triggered by hearing about the cases and it brought up spontaneous memories which my Dad then helped them navigate. The issue is that the mind is really great at sequestering away traumatic experiences which can be released at any time in one's life, whether during hypnosis or not, as well as easily creating memories when under suggestible states of consciousness if that person is willing to entertain the idea of abuse happening. I did some counseling internship with him - he was a prominent therapist in Oregon, esp because the Bishops in the area would send cases from the church to him for therapy - and we had a lot of talks about hypnosis and how careful the therapist has to be to not plant ideas about anything in the client's mind. If a therapist gets certified in hypnosis without a deeper understanding of psychology, and this sadly happens a lot, or someone who hasn't done their own work to uncover & heal from past trauma, they may not even realize that they are planting these ideas in their client's minds. Others are doing it deliberately because they are very damaged people and love the power they have over others. Using the hypnotic or semi-hypnotic techniques have been shown to greatly accelerate people's healing from sexual &/or physical abuse but have gotten such a bad name because of unethical & untrained therapists. It's sad, actually. Also, thank you for saying 'adopt a mindset of Belief First with victims'. This can't be understated enough! We've had centuries of victim-blaming and it's carried on by institutions like the LDS church for far too long.

My dad was vehement about not allowing conversion therapy to be elevated in our stake. I know I'm super late commenting, but I just found this podcast yesterday.
I live in utah, born and raised and I haven't witnessed anything like this, but, I've had my suspicions. I quit going to church yrs ago cause I wasn't feeling that good spirit my mom always has around her. She's a sweet spirit I know wouldn't worship the devil. Her mothers maiden name was kimball and yes, we are related to Spencer and Hyrum kimball. I remember being told our family has been in a spiritual battle with evil spirits which my mom use to have sleep paralysis as a teen and saw a shadow man in a hat. The one lots of sleep paralysis people have seen.
I never saw and don't see him, but I've had sleep paralysis at least since I was 4 yrs old. I also have something called visual snow where my eyesight has a fuzzy snowy tv look to it but it isn't a vision problem its a nervous system thing and I swear I can see constant changing images in the vs when I close my eyes that I've been wondering if I'm seeing my subconscious in the vs.
My family has issues emotionally and my grandma, mom, and aunt all struggled with anger that I now believe is from something they've been thru.
My sister and I also have anger issues, but only when pushed.
All us women in my family are kind hearted and love to help others, but then we have the side that doesn't want anyone getting close in fear of being abused in some way.

35:29. I think the vast majority of false claims of rape are actually setup by the accused perpetrator.
For example, say a politician/religious leader/celebrity gets accused of rape. What him and his “team” will do is hire an actress/model to ALSO accuse him of rape. This will be the story that makes the news for a few days. Then the “victim” will be 100% “debunked,” somehow caught in a lie, like he was in another state at the time or something like that. And vóila, they have now casted doubt on ALL the victims in the minds of the common person watching the story unfold.
This happens time and again, and it’s a strategy they use to manipulate the masses all the time. Even with things like jfk or 9/11 or vaccines, they just flood the airwaves with debunkable nonsense, and this causes people to stop searching for the truth, even though it can almost always be found by scrolling to Google Page 2.
I really wish people would learn to scroll past Google Page 1 and all the lies favored by the algorithm. But it’s been ingrained in us through public education to use the top sources, and that links further down aren’t to be trusted, even though the truth is exactly the opposite. The lies and manipulation are at the top, and the rest is the hundreds of thousands of millions of people trying to expose Google Page 1, but people never get that far..

I'd like to offer something about recovered memories. I agree completely about narrative memories, however, I do believe that authentic "repressed" memories come out in fragments that are experienced *NOW*. For example, I have very large gaps in my childhood memories, I've, idk, "recovered" only 2 moments of being embodied in traumatic moments and they were literally just seconds in duration, and they were experienced in the present as myself. Other fragments come through as specific pains associated with thoughts or mind states. I have 2 predictable smells, and a predictable loss of proprioception dependent upon external/internal stimulus. The single embodied "memory" that im willing to share is that I felt what I call "the thing," I felt it breathe on me while performing other action on my body. It was more real than the feeling of my body as I sit here and type this. You can recover memories, it's just more likely, i think, that they will be experiencial and not narrative.

As a non denominational Christian, I had experiences in my late teens/early 20s-where we definitely encountered evil spirits.(Im 43 now) In my friends basement,& we had several different witnesses, different days, & times. And everyone in his family, agreed that some things had gone on in their basement. Messing with Ouija boards, spells,etc-that they didn't believe in, until later on.
For the benefit of full disclosure, I was a flat out drug addict at the time,as was my friend. However, I know the difference between drug hallucinations,& what we encountered. Also, we were dead sober, on 3 of the 5 incidents. But still, it still would be possible our drug use brought on these, if not for...my friends brother saw the same things on multiple occasions. He wasn't a drug or alcohol user (he was 11),& his mom,& stepdad also were well aware their basement was "haunted." They were upper middle class/occasional drinkers-but totally against drugs,& (they later kicked my friend out, for using drugs) not close to alcoholics. There are also 3 other individuals, I know of, who saw these things,on at least 1 occasion-because they were with us. And I also know this happened, because on 1 occasion, we were experiencing this for probably 3-4 hrs. There's no way we were hallucinating for that long,& having the exact same hallucination. There's more I could go into, but again it was multiple times,& a lot of time involved. I'd have to type all night to tell you the whole story. But suffice to say, I know evil exists. But I don't claim to have all the answers, or total recall of what happened over 20 yrs ago.
I also don't expect anybody to believe 1 damn word, of what I say. Because I have no proof. It involved a porcelain doll, which I truly believe had a hold on my friend. He believes the same thing,& eventually this doll shattered in a bunch of pieces,& he tried to glue it back together, like it was his best friend. After this failed, we swept up,& threw it away. After that he was fine.
I know what happened to us,& nobody will ever convince me the spirit world doesn't exist. But again, I'm not saying I have all the answers, or that anybody should believe what I'm saying. I don't expect anybody to believe me. I've told probably 8 or 10 people, the whole story,& I preface it by saying, "you'll probably think I'm crazy,& I don't expect you to take my word for it, as I have not a shred of proof." Basically take it, or leave it-you asked, so here's the story, but do with it, as you wish.
All I can say is I know in my heart, what happened to us. My friend knows the same, even though we don't talk much anymore. His ex, is my girlfriends oldest sister,& since they broke up after like 15 yrs of marriage, I don't see him very often. But we know the truth,& I don't need validation from anyone else, to know what I saw. I am not a conspiracy theorist,& I also know the damage that many religions/cults do to people. This is why I don't claim a denomination. But I can tell you, calling on the name of Jesus, did make it back off. But I don't expect anyone to believe any of this, because without proof, why should anybody believe me?
I have friends who are atheists,& think we were crazy, or high. I have Christian friends, & friends in other religion's. Some believe us, some likely don't,& that's fine. We all have our own beliefs. And I respect everyone's beliefs, or lack therof-AS LONG AS THEY RESPECT MINE!
There are cults,& cult like mind sets-in so many aspects of life. I hate extremism, intolerance,& closed mindedness-no matter what side they come from. There is a "Trump cult," in America today. But there's also an "anti Trump cult." A small minority of people, as most people don't fall in either group. Then we know groups like Scientology, & Jehovah Witnesses are full blown cults-us vs them, black & white thinking-everything. A group like ISIS is a cult,& N Korea, is an example of a secular cult, running an entire nation. Groups like the Mormons,& even some Catholics are cult like-but usually too a lesser degree than the JW's, or Scientology. There are also Atheists, who operate with a cult like mindset, who think they have all the answers. Or they can disprove God, or something. They can't...anymore than I can prove his existence. And just cuz its in the Bible, doesn't prove anything, as some Christians seem to think. But our lack of proof, isn't evidence God DOESN'T exist, as a few extreme Atheists seem to think. And my story isn't any proof either, so I totally get, if people don't believe it.
Believing there's no God, is a completely reasonable position. I believe in God,& Satan, or evil-whatever you call it. Because I've seen it. But not the horn,& pitchfork stereotype. Just good,& evil. Because it's seems reasonable to me, to be an Atheist. But to actually believe in God" but not to believe in evil as well-that's completely nonsensical to me. But whatever the truth, none of us have all the answers. Tolerance of belief, is what's important in our society. It's enough for me to know what happened to me,& what to try to keep my kids away from. I wasn't abused,or assaulted, so it's not the same as what you are talking about. But I know what we saw,& experienced, there's SOMETHING going on, beyond our awareness. But exactly what is certainly beyond my knowledge.

Imagine if you endured the most horrifying forms of abuse thats so bad nobody believes it. You did a 3 part series to explore the validity of sra in Mormonism but all three episodes guests had zero interest in doing anything other than shoot the idea down.
I'd refer you to the testimoney pf the daughters of David Hamblin. As unbelievable as there victim statements are, I have a harder time imagining two young girls making multiple reports over several years that corroborate eachother, audio recording of David admitting to the rape, being completely fabricated. During the Hamblins divorce discovery it was put into the record that David sexually abused his kids. Add to that, more than a decade later, David and his ex wife are arrested on charges from different victims but those new victims also claim there was a ton of talk about sra.
So we as a society will except that those girls were telling the truth about the abuse but disregard any notion of it being done ritualistically? It seems that we've unintentionally built a firewall for pedos. If they add satanic elements to the abuse its almost a garauntee nobody will believe the victims.
I think you should do another series on this very sensitive topic and try to be more balanced. You can't do a whole series about SRA in Mormonism and leave out the nost compelling case imo. The courts of Utah have it as fact that the Hamblin sisters weren't lying about being abused so we should take a closer look into everything they said to police in 2012.

Hey John, kind an adjacent topic but I think that it's important to clarify that a lot perceptions that people have about the occult are incorrect. Occultism has a lot more do to with living life through a certain philosophical lens and finding your own power--it is not about abusing or harming others. Occultism is heavily intertwined with pagan religions such as Wicca, which are grounded in ethical behavior and respect for the earth. I believe that Christians often demonize Occultism because it is a response to many of the things that people find problematic in Christian religions. Occultists are not people who are looking to harm others but are instead people trying to understand the meaning of life while embracing themselves and their full power and potential as human beings. Occult practices such as tarot reading can actually be highly therapeutic.

One of the values of the Occult is deception. Tarot reading, wicca, etc. are a comfortable entry point into the Occult. Once you become involved with the occult on a deeper level, the unethical side will show itself clearly.

    • @spiral_heart8239
      @spiral_heart8239 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jessiesheldon-huffey1824 I don't think depth of involvement is the problem. Instead it's an issue of thinking for yourself and having your own moral compass. Dogmatic moralism, such as that found in mormonism, henders this. Fortunately, most pagans seek to find their own moral compass (although there are shared community values generally--and Wicca does have a lose moral system). But of course some groups can become dogmatic. I think there is always a risk with spiritual hierarchy and group practice. But there is light and shadow in every community--even in high demand religions.

@@Sapphires_And_Dreams I don't think your charterization of what I said is fair. There are problems in all spiritual practices. I tried to make that clear when I mentioned dogma. One must also always be warry of socio-paths, narcists, and cults. I'm very sorry for what happened to you. I don't agree that it is as simple as RHP vs. LHP though. And I'm sure that there are evil Wiccans and other pagans. There will always be people who abuse ideas. There is no escaping that in life. But I also thing that a general message that stereotypical ideas about the occult are wrong. This point doesn't have to exclude the nuance you wish to add. I appreciate that. But there is also no reason to attack me for trying to make a general point to an audience that doesn't know a lot about Occult practices. Again I'm sorry for what happened to you it deserves attention and discussion, but it doesn't mean that other people are just plain wrong either.

The idea that you can use recovered memories to reframe experiences was popular during the panic.
Many therapists asked people to reframe and rewrite their memories and then treated the re framed memories as fact, pushing their patients to take their parents to court.
This was a multimillion dollar business.

I live in Utah. My sister has accused my dad of doing things. He story has gotten more and more fantastical through the years. I finally asked my dad, and he denied it. As a little girl who grew up in his house, I believe him. He never blurred the lines of appropriateness.
