  • How many of you have used this 30 ton laser boat? It's a classic design that dates back to the good old days, but got a hot facelift in the last kickstarter... so we're going to see if it gets crushed by the Battlytics engine.

    My favorite light of the era! Good video.
    This is a mech that requires being correctly used to earn it's BV.
    Battlytics ratings are based on a strait up fight that the Javelin should never
    be a part of. The JVN-10F is a backstabber that forces heavier units to break
    formation and leave nested positions or die.
    A medium laser hit combined with a punch pierces the rear side torso
    of most of the common ammo packing heavies of the era.
    I definitely agree with the armor not being distributed well.
    In campaigns I remove 3 armor from each arm and add 1 to each leg and
    side torso as well as 2 to the head.
    BTW Kurita fans that put a JR7-F in every lance-The JR7-F is supposed to be
    a very rare variant. Meanwhile the JVN-10F is fairly common in Fed Suns space.

    It’s probably one of the few mechs that I really think should get over armored legs. Like the design should’ve stripped a few points of arm armor to get those legs up to 15 points and like you said another point or two somewhere to reinforce the head

    Ah, the Javelin. That sneaky old Javelin. This is my go-to variant of the Javelin in the succession wars era play, a solid little striker.

    @Magermh 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The “Fire Javelin” is a nice light mech. The lack of ammo weapons lets the mech survive vs the heavier mechs in 3025. I would play it in the latter era’s but not vs the clans. What I like about using the Javelin is the jump jets let it gain a rear flank into lower rear armor. When a medium laser makes contact with a side or center rear torso the mech could fallow up with punches. I normally prefer to fight this mech in hilly or city terrain where it could jump behind cover to block LOS and cool off after making a strikes with its medium lasers. Wait for that opportunity to gain that flank because it will happen. I second that idea of a ¾ pilot and agree with this assessment. Because of the mechs 6 jump jets I would recommend using light smoke screens to gain that extra +1 to hit to cover the advance of the Javelin. A single LRM-5 would do the trick. I use the Grasshopper for that LRM and as a big distraction. Smoke is not available in Alpha Strike.
    I have two of these mechs in my Davion unit. When I play the consideration goes to using a Javelin JVN-10N in the latter era’s and just use Tandem Charge ammo or Inferno’s depending on my opposition.
    ...
    I do use the Fire Javelin often. I would do things like using inferno arrow 4 support missiles in latter era’s as the lack of ammo weapons permits me to screen the mech in fire.
    The JVN-11D is a wonderful variant that works well with mechs like a Thanatos TNS-4S or Grasshopper GHR-C. The JVN-11B would be good using SRM Smoke ”Heavy Screen” /Tandem Charge/Inferno “Anti-BA” missiles with an average of 3 missiles a pack on a hit. The ECM could protect a C3 network in ECCM mode or jam an Artemis FCS dependent LRM mech. The Active probe could help spot ambushing SRM carriers or unmarked mine fields or gain tracking though buildings in a city for double blind games. Regrets that this mechs electronic warfare suit lets it stand out to Kraken loaded with ARAD LRM.
    The JVN-10/11P are kind of a mixed bag as streaks on the Javelin are a little under effective unless going after light mechs.
    The JVN-11F I would never use besides the snub-nose PPC because of the XL engine. The mech has but to loss an arm and all the shots hit the torso. The MG array’s would work vs infantry in medium buildings and the snub has a good short range window but the ammo is unprotected in a side torso. I would take that mech if they had improved the mobility and I would have wanted improved jump jets.
    The JVN-12N looks like an improved 10N and has those conditions but buffing the mobility to 8/12/8. This has it be a better strike mech vs battle armored infantry when loaded with inferno’s. I would not mind that one as the +4 on a jump is greater than the penalty from jumping the mech. Clan Pulse Lasers and precision AC ammo make this mobility a moot point. As protomech, light AC, and standard AC’s are rare for precision ammo the pulse laser is more common. I would have to consider heavy smoke screens from laser-inhibiting arrow 4 or SRM’s to counter the pulse lasers.
    TAG on jump compatible mech seems like a good idea but often the TAG misses because of the +3 to hit on top of the range modifier and terrain. I would consider a Semi-guided LRM lineup over an arrow 4. If I used the TAG for artillery it would be guided bombs or arrow 4 or tube artillery to strike buildings or aim for the ground for splash damage. TAG has an interesting impact when used with NARC or iNARC pods. Vehicles like a Sprint or Vector VTOL or hover craft with NARC of iNARC would have to be used to mesh the effect. This all depends on landing that TAG.

    Oh yeah! 10F Javelin ftw! This thing is like the Honda Civic of IS mechs: a solid and dependable design that won't let you down as long as you don't make it do things it wasn't designed to do. Keep it on the flanks to deal with smaller, faster threats or jump around and use those hands to grab objectives and then get out of dodge.
    Edit: If you're gonna add a Javelin to your Hinterlands campaign, might I recommend the 11D?

    Ahhhh, the Javelin. I used to think the JVN-10F was one of the better lights of the succession wars (up there with JR-7F, and PNT-9R) - 6t armor, 12 heatsinks, 4 medium lasers, all torso mounted - good mech.
    But then...
    then I ran a pair of good ol' JVN-10Ns with 1t standard ammo, and 1t inferno ammo - something the COM-2D cannot do, because of the mismatched launchers. And it's a whole new kind of evil. Pair of sneaky ambushers unloading 4 SRM6s worth of inferno rounds into an assault mech is enough to force a shutdown, and then it's beatdown time...

    As far as 3025 goes there are worse picks for a mech. A good mix of speed, firepower and armour for its size. It can go hunt scout mechs, help hold a flank or help out a bigger mech in a fight, it can take on the unlucky 40-tonners at a pinch.
    As soon as lostech or Clans are involved it becomes diminishing returns, but it has a reasonable inherent functionality, so even if obsolete it can still sting if needed.

    4 ML on a mobile mech can be a real pain if the pilot knows how to use terrain to stay alive longer (hills for nullifying leg shots, woods for added TM or either of theose to block LOS completely) and can stick around to threaten rear shots or for later game clean up. It might not be impressive on paper, or the table terrain and pilot depending, but in the right circumstances and in the right hands it can punch WAY above its weight.

    Hey Aaron I enjoy your battlytics reports , but I was wandering if or when can you do custom builds and see a more accurate representation of a more optimized version of all mechs and vehicles. Like a custom Wvrn-8k or some others. I have used custom build mechs that seem way more efficient. like my wolverine on HBS BattleTech is 1 Er LL, 1 erML, x2 SSRM 6, and a MPL., endosteel, light eng. 260? (maybe) FF armor. thanks for the reports. wish you all had more Battle reports, i can watch those all day.

    I quite like the 2xSRM6 javelin, just as a cheap mobile inferno carrier. I thought it would be easy to replace with something bigger, like 2xSRM6 at 6/9/6 is all I needed it to be so i could likely find something else to fill that role in the IS mechbase, no?
    Well after alot of scouring, not really, in the Clan Invasion at least. More stuff comes out like it once MMLs become a thing, but like the IS had multiple omnimechs of their own in like 3055 thru 3058, but for whatever reason NEITHER the omni 6/9/6 Firestarter nor the omni 5/8/5 Blackhawk KU had SRM6 variants. Like, come on man, they're OMNIs, you're saying nobody in universe had a need for an uparmored Javelin to fire Infernos at Battle Armor that they modified their firestarter to do that?
    There are two Solaris 7 mechs that can do that, but they're basically one-offs
    Like, the Wolverine 7K is close enough and is quite good for that purpose, but as a pure pure 2x SRM6 boat for infernos on a mech you cannot really do much better than the Javelin, and that is why I love the 10N.
    The 10F does nothing for me. It's a'aight but uninspired. Use the Jenner 7F for that role instead.

    Medium lasers are one of the best IS weapons of this era. The real strength of this mech is jumping and backshotting, which won’t be reflected in this analysis. Even assaults can’t take too many MLs to the back…

    • @DeathfromAboveWargaming
      @DeathfromAboveWargaming  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I will be controversial and say it is the best IS laser period! 🙂 Reliable, low weight, good damage:heat. Not like clan erMLas level but very good!

    • @TheThinKing23
      @TheThinKing23 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ hmmm maybe this just reflects my playstyle, but I feel like I always end up in melee range at some point. That means the shorter range of IS pulse lasers isn’t so bad, and VSP lasers can be insane on brawlers… but I think IS MLs being the best is a completely fair take :)
