eh Howsit Matt, you are one of our winners just got to send me you address .. can message me on instagram (onfirefishinghawaii) or Joseph Wadahara on Face Book
Go to Costco if you want cheap headlamps and you can keep warranting them with no questions I do that with my daughter's ones and my niece.... No questions ask they just exchange them Even Sam's club does it but we buy the ones from Costco
The small fish you didn't know was upapalu, or Cardinalfish. They grow up to about 6 inches and even King Kalakaua went fishing for that fish. One of my mom's favorite to panfry, but are really fishy smelling. However they are soft and easy to eat. As far as the 'a'ama crab, it is best on moonless nights. All crustaceans, crabs, lobster, as well as fish and octopus will be like any animal at night, you see the reflection in their eyes. With your bright light, when you see one, keep your steady light on it. The 'a'ama crabs outer legs will come up in the air and ready to scamper either way while they are blinded. As long as you keep the light steady on them, you can then grab them. If your shadow gets in the light, he is no longer blinded and runs. Thanks for teaching your kids how to be conscious of size limits, keep the big ones and let the small ones go. This will ensure that when they have kids, they too can do this with them.
yeah that's right, forgot the Hawaiian name... we use to just call em moon fish or stink fish when I was a kid, but I didn't know people ate them.... we use to just catch them for fun in the tide pools at night or sometime dunking for small game off the rocks. Thanks again for watching and sharing your knowledge.
