We put 8' metal chain link fencing on our cabin, wrapped the whole cabin. works like a charm, we covered the door with a metal bed frame with chain link fencing, it hangs on 2 large hooks and a locking bar on the bottom, no bear will ever get in there....We also hang cans of bear spray close to the cabin as they love to bite into cans....over the years we have had two cans punctured and no damage to our cabin , so it works...
Welcome back, Andrew. Years ago I camped for the summer in bear country and followed the advice of a local old timer to minimize bear damage. That was to leave the door open because they would get in, one way or the other, even just from curiosity. Bears came in, but there was never any torn tent because they always went in the easiest way, which was the open door.
When you say everyone has a safe place and out on the trap line is mine. I think right there is some of the most important things someone can understand about themselves. and “ it’s been a long hard summer but back out on the line”. Hilarious
Awesome video, missed you bud. No better sleepy time remedy than listening to your NWT twang and dreaming about my own safe place in the bush. Stay dry and safe
Good to see you back on the trap line........looking forward to see more vlogs this winter. Rudy grew tall over the summer. Stay safe Andrew and all the best to you and your family from Winnipeg. 🇨🇦
Every single 330 cubby set should have a big foothold trap set behind it, blended in the snow, where most animals are guaranteed to circle behind it. It would be a sneaky way to catch some of the "smart ones". No bait, no lure. Just a thought 👍
Nice to have a familiar place to have a coffee and a dart. That goes for trapping, fishing, etc. The sounds of nature, especially in winter are good for the soul, even if the coffee comes from Columbia and the tobacco from Virginia. Great vid. Very informative and glad to see you making adjustments to increase your harvest.
So glad it's this season again. I just pulled my traps behind my house. Time to go back to work. But I'll be back at it again when I get back home from my last trip up north for the year.
Life in the Wild North, or death in a split second. Them bears must have a pretty good stash of your bait box traps somewhere in them woods. Good video!
Glad to see you back on the line, really love your area. You are right about feeling safe and free on a trapline, I have been doing it for 50 years this year and still love it as much as the first year. it is the highlite of the entire yaea for me. You too I think. Thanks Andrew for taking the time to make these vids for all of us to enjoy. Al
I was actually really helpful when you drew the map in the snow. Helps to visualize what the line looks like there and makes sense why you would go hard after the Wolverine in that stretch
When you fix the cabin . use a bunch of drywall screws or spikes nailed into ta piece of ply wood covering the doors and windows. It will armour the cabin. If they try to get in they will have to get the nails in their paws. Also nail a bunch of nails through some ply or 2X 6`s on the ground in front of the doors and windows. Secure them to the cabin or they will dig them out or just toss them aside. .They will have to walk on the nails hehe and I`m sure they will not do that again .Personally I would sharpen the nails to a real fine point too. Hehe Cheers.
Awesome Andrew. Good to see you again brutha. 👊 I was just thinking about the Wild North, and was hoping you felt up to showing us some trapping this season. Thanks a million for the video. Best to ya man. Here's to a deadly '20-'21 in the Wild North.
Right on! glad go see the Wild North riding the trails. Damn bear was big,,spring bear hunt video?,lol. ok, gotta watch the next part,, peace n beerz to ya
Glad to see you back on the channel, Andrew. Looking forward to following along for the season again. Hope all is well and safe in your neck of the woods. Best regards.
My part of the Rockies was black and grizzly infested ,kind of warm they just wouldn't go to hibernation, marten catch was good ,best of luck everyone, really enjoy the videos
Glad to see ya back! Be careful out there, that north country has killed many fine outdoorsmen. One mistake can be your last, stay safe and keep on living the dream!
Eyyy, finally, was watching some of your old videos this weekend awaiting some new trapping videos. Just started my trapline for marten, so it would be nice to see some marten sets. Hope fur prices get better soon.
Hey Andrew, I have been out deer and elk hunting and just got home. Great to see you and some new posts! I am looking forward to wolf trapping here in North Idaho and I hope you have a great season this year. Go getem' man! Take care up there!
Hi Andrew, I understand your feeling of safe out on the line, I too get that feeling when I am out on my line, and getting the fire going in the wood stove starts it off. MT
Bro I have been watching you for years now, I always love your start of the season, you face mate, like a kit in a sweetshop lol. Good vibes, weather looks great. Lets hope for a good season mate.
I am so glad you're back on I learned so much from you I wish I was back up from the north and I'm in the north of Montana but I would love to be on the Northwest Territories and Alaska
Hey Andrew glad to see new vids, First can totally relate on trapline being a safe place, years ago a psychiatrist diagnosed me with some name but means that doesn't handle changes well and I don't while traps and sets change over the years animal behavior doesn't change fast, plus with my ADD so much goes on in the woods keeps my mind occupied lol. I used to trap feral mink near ranches and used boxes exclusively, I watched a few mink work the box and made changes, first had open backs like yours to let scent flow thru but found mink always kept going to the back and tried to get in that way so I switched to solid backs, also used to set body grips in a V some trappers said catch on the hips as they tried to jump but watched a mink go in and out 3 time before getting caught, now I used a invented T configuration after thinking most animals would rather duck under things and don't mind bumping things with their backs than jumping over things. Lastly I extended the roof out over the front like an over hang to shelter the opening and lure under the edge of that for scent dispersal. GL this year Andrew
Was starting to worry.glad to see ya back bud.
Glad to see you back
how the dog does he ride
with you

You live the greatest of lives! I wish I had the time in the outdoors as you, I will someday.
